Goodness gracious, people from movies and TV love alcohol. I’m one of those nerds who scrutinizes any scene with drinking to figure out what specifically characters ordered (my friends got angry when we went to see “Friends With Benefits” because I was the guy saying “Oh, they’re drinking Shiner Bock. I like that beer!”). But you don’t always have to study beer labels or examine a cocktail glass to deduce what characters are drinking; sometimes they order stuff so often, their drink becomes a character trait. Here’s a look at what some of our favorite on-screen heroes drink over and over and over again. Hit up the comments section to let us know what drinks of choice we missed.

 

The Dude

White Russian (a.k.a. Caucasian) | Recipe

The Dude drinks nine White Russians (vodka, Kahlua, and cream) throughout “The Big Lebowski.” They also use the F-word 260 times in that movie, so making a drinking game out of White Russians is probably safer.

Has anyone ever ordered a martini “shaken, not stirred” WITHOUT doing so in a Sean Connery impression?

Apple Martini (a.k.a Appletini) | Recipe

A little bit less manly than Bond’s martini. But it became a running gag, and Zach Braff has admitted in interviews to enjoying appletinis for real.

Hannibal Lecter

Chianti

In one of the most horrifying scenes in “Silence of the Lambs,” Dr. Lecter describes eating someone’s liver along with a glass of chianti wine. Nevermind that he mispronounces it – that slurping sound is chilling.

French 75

It’s actually German soldiers who order this gin drink in “Casablanca,” but Rick’s gin joint probably made a lot of them.

Old Fashioned | Recipe

Everyone on “Mad Men” drinks all the time. But this is Don Draper’s drink of choice. And there’s nothing better than the scene where he teaches his young daughter Sally to mix it for him – “now muddle it.”

Lone Star

I honestly thought Lone Star was a made-up beer for “Friday Night Lights,” but it’s real. And everyone in Dillon, Texas, drinks it – including high school freshman who look like they’re thirty. Texas forever.

Coors Light

It’s a very obvious product placement that Paddy’s Pub serves Coors Light all the time. And while it may not be the classiest beer ever, these characters aren’t the most classy individuals.

Liz orders white wine a few different times on “30 Rock.” It seems to fit her personality, and I’m grateful for any show where women in New York order anything other than cosmos. Screw you, “Sex & The City.”
