How To Support The Beer Community In Western NC
Hurricane Helene has devastated Western North Carolina. Folks are still missing, lives have been lost, homes have been swept away and small businesses have been destroyed. It is a horrific time for these mountain communities, and we know the beer community is looking to help.
How to Help
Donate to Beloved Asheville, United Way, World Central Kitchen, American Red Cross and beyond. Here is a list of numerous ways to help from buying coffee to donating diapers to fostering pets, and more.
If you are local to the region donate goods to be dropped off to Western NC, many businesses are accepting donations for the foreseeable future. There are supplies lists that change based on needs.
Appalachian Mountain, Burial, Dssolvr, Hi-Wire, New Belgium, Sierra Nevada, TRVE, The Whale and White Labs all have taprooms outside of Asheville. Support these spots if you’re local to their other locations.
WNC Breweries Accepting Donations
As all of these breweries have stated, please prioritize donating to lifesaving care first, and then if you are able to donate, these breweries have set up ways to help:
- New Origin Brewing was completely destroyed. Help rebuild via their GoFundMe
- Zillicoah Beer Company is in extremely rough shape. Help rebuild via their GoFundMe
- Wedge Brewing Company has three locations in Asheville and have created a bartender tip jar to support employees during this unknown period of closure. Support the team via their GoFundMe

- Burial’s South Slope location is open with generators and they are constantly giving out food, water and supplies to the community. Their Forestry Camp location is in good shape but closed. Support their staff while their team is out of work via their GoFundMe. Support chefs feeding the community at Burial via Resident Culture’s fundraiser here

Are You A Brewery Looking To Support?
Outside of donations, here are two ways that breweries specifically can help support recovery efforts:
- Dssolvr and the NC Brewers Guild have organized @higher.calling.beer a Hazy IPA that will raise funds to support the rebuilding of the brewing community. They will provide a label, a recipe base, and a list of suppliers offering discounted rates. They ask in return that 100% of the net profits be donated to this charity, that you share your involvement on social media, and share a unique and positive memory of yours about our beloved WNC. Send an email to [email protected] and they’ll send you everything you need to get started.
- Breweries can also support by joining the Pouring for Neighbors initiative from the NC Brewers Guild. Find more information here

Turgua Brewing’s creekside tap room is closed due to flooding but has donated their space to the National Guard as a staging and community relief center. The brewing site currently lacks power and water, and is inaccessible except by foot due to bridge washout, but otherwise undamaged. Clean-up is actively taking place and they hope to begin the reopening process within the month.
