Otter Romp Murky Double IPA Collaboration Can- Pure Project and Humble Sea
Zeke Ottemiller

When it comes time to select a spirit animal, one might gravitate toward a lion, tiger, or bear… oh my! Solid choices of course, but a little reflection helps reveal the unsung hero of the animal kingdom. Enter, the otter. A sign of peace, a symbol of endless curiosity, and never one to turn down having some fun. With this new spiritual enlightenment, there’s no better beer to reward yourself with than Otter Romp, a recent collaboration between Pure Project and Humble Sea.

500 or so miles separate San Diego-based Pure Project from the fine folks at Humble Sea in Santa Cruz. A not-so-quick but totally worth-it cruise up the California coastline connects them. Good things take time.

This one’s roots can be traced back over a decade. “I met Nick Pavlina and the Humble Sea crew 13 years ago while working at a homebrew shop in Santa Cruz. It seems so long ago now, but we even homebrewed a batch together at the now-legendary grandma’s house, where Humble Sea started,” says Winslow Sawyer, Co-Founder & Brewer at Pure Project. “After going our separate ways and starting our own breweries, it’s awesome to come back together and share the knowledge we’ve gained over the years to create a beer to stoke out our fans,” Sawyer adds.

The Juicy Details

Weighing in at 8.6% ABV, this Double IPA  does not disappoint. The can art on this one is the first thing to catch your eye. It’s energetic and playful, in true otter style. The contents that lie within are equally as exciting—pouring an enticing golden-hour orange haze. A wave of tropical hop aromas, courtesy of Strata, Motueka, and Citra Cryo, greets your olfactory system. Your taste buds will be tantalized after the first sip, finding flavors of coconut, lime, and a pop of papaya. It has that unique mouthfeel you can expect from Pure Project IPAs. They call it murky, which feels like a perfect description.

Special shoutout to Brooke at Pure Project for helping a few cans find their way to Delaware and making this showcase possible!
