PorchDrinking Playlist | Proper Brewing Co.
This place really is an adult playground. Looking to the left, we see Bill & Ted and to the right, we’re greeted by Wayne & Garth (all tanks have been given names of pop culture icons.) In the middle of it all, Jack is making beer on a home brew setup and today is in charge of the tunes at Proper Brewing Co. In between watching the boil, he takes a moment to set the next song.
Jack Kern, along with Matt Sargent and head brewer Rio Connelly, make up the brew team at Utah’s newest and most popular breweries. These guys love music and excited to share their favorite songs. It turns out music is a huge part of every day at Proper, inspiring new creations, tweaking old favorites, keeping the crowd lively or just cleaning the tanks. Here is the music of Proper Brewing Company.

How does music influence the brewing process?
It really depends upon my mood, or the day, or even the time of day. Generally I use it to motivate and keep me moving. However, some days I’m feeling super chill and mellow. I like all types and genres of music, but when brewing, I tend to gravitate toward high energy and volume. Most often Electronica.
What song can you sum up your typical brew day?
“Headspace (Time Is On Our Side)” by GRiZ. It makes me feel at peace and like nothing can go wrong in my day. Like I woke up in my hammock on a tropical beach, sun shining, not a care in the world, huge smile on my face. Can’t beat a feeling like that. This song permeates to my soul on so many levels.
