12 Beers of Christmas | Day 8- Shiner Cheer
When you’re from Texas, you’re not just from Texas. Being from Texas is more like a lifestyle than a classification. We almost all get the state outline tattooed somewhere on our body, we shout “TEXAS!” at inappropriate times whenever we get the chance and we have an almost annoying amount of pride for things made in our great state – especially our beer.
Shiner Beers are some of the most well known beers out of Texas, and Holiday Cheer is arguably their best. Unlike most winter seasonal beers, Holiday Cheer is a very sweet Dunkelweizen that’s perfect for a Texas winter – a.k.a. just subtly warm because let’s be honest, this state doesn’t need any extra heat.
The sweet notes in the beer come from famed Texas peaches, and there’s an added nutty, pecan taste that keeps the beer from being overly sweet. As a somewhat lighter, fruity winter beer, Holiday Cheer is the perfect Christmas party favor, or hell, even a keg would awesome. It provides easy drinking and won’t take you out as quickly as some darker winter beers.
While there’s no way Shiner Holiday Cheer deserves the title Best Winter Beer Ever, it will always be my favorite. It pairs perfectly with pecan pie, just smells like the holidays and well, because…TEXAS!
