Boulevard Brewing Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale is an American take on the traditional Belgian Farmhouse Ale. Traditionally Farmhouse Ales are fermented strictly with wild yeast imparting these beers with regional terroir. The beer pours with a hazy golden color with a thick rocky head. Aromas of stone fruit, earthiness and slight peppery spice billow from the mouth of the glass. A slight bready yeastiness is more abundant as the head fades and the beer begins to warm. Flavors of grassy wheat hit my palate first and are quickly followed by a peppery grapefruit and passion fruit softness that blanket the center of my tongue. This beer finishes refreshingly tart and slightly dry thanks to the high carbonation. A slight earthy flavor resides on my palate between sips. Overall, this beer is well balanced between malts and hops and produces the slight wild funk that has been enjoyed for years in the Belgian countryside. I hope that more US breweries follow suit and produce farmhouse style ales as this is one style that is highly quaffable and so incredibly enjoyable shared with friends enjoying the cool spring breeze and the smell of blooming flowers.
