Awesomesauce- Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee
Quick, name the first comedian you can think of who LOVES cars….besides Jay Leno.
Ok, so I was thinking of Jerry Seinfeld. The car lover in question resurfaced in 2012 (seriously, what WAS he doing after Seinfeld?!?) with a fantastic new webseries called Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, which has recently become my new obsession.
The premise is seriously awesome- Jerry stops by a friend’s house, takes him or her out for a ride in one of his vintage cars, and they have a chat about life, love, comedy, cars, you name it. Of course, they eventually end up at a coffee shop and continue their chat there. (Bonus points: they’re usually in some amazingly awesome Vegas/Hollywood greasy spoon where you just KNOW Sammy Davis Jr. and Frank Sinatra nursed a hangover once.)
What I find most endearing about the show is the off-the-cuff nature of the conversations; you can tell that for the most part, these are all old friends getting together to shoot the breeze and talk about what they love most; their craft. Of course, there are some funny moments, but there are also some really cool backstories and adorable moments. Check out all of the episodes here, but be sure to watch my favorite– Carl Reiner and Mel Brooks discuss their 60+ year friendship, how Mel met Richard Pryor, and their favorite TV show (among many other topics.)
P.S. -The Alec Baldwin episode is great, too. I’m all verklempt just thinking about it…talk amongst yourselves…
