Sidekick EPA – Two Brothers Brewing (Warrenville, IL)
IBU: 36.1
ABV: 5.1%
The last six months have seen an influx of new Midwestern and Colorado beers into Florida, and I, for one, am pretty darn excited about that. Founders and New Belgium are the two biggest new names in the state, but we are also starting to see some smaller breweries, such as Two Brothers. The Sidekick is the first beer I’ve tried from them.
I am always on a mission to find hoppy beers that are sessionable, and this one definitely fits the bill. The Sidekick pours a clear golden yellow, with a white sudsy head that dissipates pretty quickly. The nose is primarily citrus, as is the initial flavor. As the beer opens up, tropical mango and passion fruit flavors emerge. The finish is juicy, not dry or particularly cloying. If you’re legitimately thirsty, this will definitely quench you.
If you like Bell’s Two Hearted Ale, but don’t necessarily want the 7.5% ABV price tag, the Sidekick is a great alternative. It’s refreshing on a hot day or after hard work, and complex enough to satisfy any IPA snob- I mean…connoisseur. I’m looking forward to more beers from Two Brothers!
