Hey there PorchDrinkers! Native to the city and looking for events to tide you over for the week? New to the city and looking for the best place to find tasty suds? Visiting and looking for events to hit while you are in town? Check out this week’s Denver Beer Beat . . . did we miss any events in this week’s? Let us know.

Welcome back to another installment of PorchDrinking’s Weekly Denver Beer Beat. The Denver Beat brings news of openings, releases, dinners, anniversaries, etc. This week we have a lot of anniversaries happening. Make sure to get out to some of these places to show your continued support! I have heard enough about FIFA for a lifetime; so let’s kick it old school with some much needed brew events. Cheers!

Wednesday, June 18

River North Brewery (Fivepoints/Ballpark) – For this week’s Wayward Wednesday special tapping, the Wayward Wednesday tapping is a good one: Tart Cherry Dubbel! Only five gallons, first pour at 3pm tomorrow.

Copper Kettle Brewing (Southeast Denver) – June is “Fruit Beer Cask Month” at Copper Kettle. Each Wednesday this month, they will feature a different beer highlighting a different fruit. This week they’ll be tapping a firkin of Pineapple Mango Charlie’s Golden Strong around 2pm.

Hops & Pie Artisan Pizzeria and Craft Brew Taproom (Berkeley) – Today’s Wednesday special is $2 Craft Can Night from 5pm to close. Also, the Artisan Sandwich of the Week is Capicola, House Made Fresh Mozzarella, Crispy Pancetta, Baby Arugula and Mission Fig/Strawberry Compote of a Griddled Hoagie.

Kokopelli Beer Co (Westminster) – Ladies! Join in Wednesday, June 18th at 5pm-9pm for ladies night. Ladies buy one drink, get one half off. High Hops Brewery (Windsor) – High Hops Brewery is helping 94.9 Radio celebrate their first anniversary in style by hosting their First Birthday Party. They also brewed a special beer just for the festivities. It’s going to be a Watermelon Wheat beer called “The 94.9” so make sure to swing by the party and pick up a bottle of suds.

Barrels & Bottles Brewery (Golden) – Like Hops?….Then you better get over to Barrels & Bottles for the HOPstile Tap Takeover with Crazy Mountain Brewing Company! Here are just a few beers they’ll have on tap. Gorilla You’re a Desperado, Imperial Brown Ale, Moonlight Mile Black IPA, Sangre De Diablo Imperial Belgian Red, Hookiebob IPA,, Mountain Livin Pale Ale, Boohai Red Ale and Neomexicanus Native Pale Ale. Brewery representative will be on site to talk hops and will have giveaways. Pucker Up Folks!

Friday, June 20

Grimm Brothers Brewhouse (Loveland) – Grimm Brother’s release King’s Son India Pale Lager. King’s Son is their take on the American IPA, but lagered as is their style (we like that). They decided to push the boundaries on hop aroma and flavor in a perfectly balanced lager. This is described as one tasty “hoppy” brew everyone can enjoy even if you don’t like IPAs. Smooth and sessionable with a well rounded body. Yes, please.

Epic Brewing – Denver Taproom (Five Points) –  Join Epic Brewing for a class that combines the basics of cooking with beer with a menu that is meant to complement the complexities and flavors of a craft brew. The Cook Street Chefs will guide you through a menu catered directly to the beers you will be enjoying. TRVE Brewing (Baker) – On June 20th, TRVE Brewing will be having their anniversary party and releasing their 2nd anniversary beer – Volume II. This beer is a potently sour brown ale fermented in High West whiskey barrels with Brettanomyces and Lactobacillus. Volume II weighs in at a hefty 11%, and will be available on draft at the brewery. They’ll be releasing a limited amount of young kegs of this beer and letting the rest sit to allow them to develop more Brett character for next year. They’re excited to finally have the ability, space, and resources to commit to projects like this. This is Part One of a Three Part Party. See Satvrday for more festivities!

Saturday, June 21

 

TRVE Brewing (Baker) – Part Two of the Three Part Party for these black metal brethren, TRVE Brewing will be enrolling members into their 2014 CVLT at their newly opened barrel house, the Acid Temple. Memberships are wicked limited so you better be in line on Saturday! This year they have a bottle membership: 4 releases dates with members getting 2 bottles at each release date of each limited beer and then a growler membership like the last two years where you get 6 growler fills and you get to keep the updated glassware. And Part Three of the Three Part Party, Last but not least, we will be having our Second Anniversary Bacchanal at the Marquis Theatre on June 21st at 6pm.Our Taproom will be open from 12pm to 4pm for you to pregame for the show. Tickets are available online, or should you want to avoid service fees you can purchase them at our Taproom. We are lucky enough to have Power Trip, Bongripper, Call of the Void, In the Company of Serpents, Khemmis, Stoic Dissention and Catholic Girls helping us ring in our terrible twos.
Last but not least, despite the fact we are wicked, we will be closed on the 22nd to get some rest.

Renegade Brewing Company (Lincoln Park) – On Saturday, June 28 we will be throwing a huge block party on the 900 block of W. 9th Avenue, right in front of Renegade Brewing Company. We will have live music all day, some of our favorite food trucks, ice cream, and tons of beer! MaxFund No-Kill Animal Shelter and Adoption Center is even coming out with their mobile adoption van! There is no entrance fee and all beers are just $5. We will be tapping some of our favorite beers of the last year as well as our usual Offensively Delicious line-up. A free bike valet will be provided by our friends at The Denver Bicycle Cafe. Please use responsible transportation. Food Trucks include: Matt’s Snack Shack, Baba & Pop’s Kitchen, Slider Shack 303, Em’s Ice Cream. Bands include: 3:30 CP Carrington with Animal Electricity, 5:30 Holly Lovell, 7:00 The Way The Arrow, 8:30 The Knew.

Parry’s Pizza (Greenwood Village) – What a superb lineup of craft beers coming up in Greenwood Village on Saturday, June 21st starting at noon. Mark your calendars and set your alerts. Pliny the Elder and Consecration from Russian River, Kriek from AC Golden and Stickee Monkee from Firestone Walker. These beers are pretty rare, so get on this.

Funkwerks (Ft. Collins) – Plan to attend Funkwerks’ 3 and a Half Year Birthday Party on Saturday, June 21st from 2pm to close. They want to celebrate when it’s warm, so why not celebrate a half birthday out on their patio! They will host a complimentary BBQ from Hog Wild (while it lasts). The first 50 people to attend will receive a FREE beer! There will also be raffle drawings from 2-6pm where you could win beer & other Funkwerks swap. Party on Garth. Party on Wayne!

Black Shirt Brewing (Five Points) – 5pm -10 pm – Beer Garden Grand Opening! They’ve built a beer garden in their back yard and it’s time to open it to the public! They’ll have several delicious Red Ales on tap, a food truck, cornhole boards, and live music from Sawmill Joe! It’s gonna be a hell of a party. A pic to entice ya!

Chain Reaction Brewing Co (Athmar Park) – Chain Reaction Brewing Company opens its doors at 12pm for their long awaited Grand Opening. They will have 16 beers available for opening day and a backup of each batch so there will be plenty of suds when those first kegs run dry. PARTY!!!

Beer By Design Brewery (Northglenn) – BDD will host a Car Show this Saturday, June 21st 10am at the brewery. Hot cars and cold beers!

Twelve Degree Brewing (Louisville) – On the Summer Solstice, celebrate Twelve Degree’s first birthday in the taproom from noon – midnight. The party will feature the extraordinary band PAA KOW at 8pm! They hope to have a packed house of 12 Degree regulars and craft beer lovers that have made their first year so memorable and successful. The day will be complete with surprise beer releases, giveaways, tunes, cake, and food specials.

Green Man Taproom and Beer Garden (Colorado Springs) – Green Man, with its 44 craft beer tap lines, will be revealing a fun new game called Match Game 44. They will offer craft beer oriented prizes for each round as players advance and an overall grand prize bar tab. In order to advance, drinkers, with the help of a detailed menu, must match two of the four pours per round, but all contestants are guaranteed four rounds of four 5-ounce flights regardless of advancement. The champion will be the last man or woman standing, so to speak. The challenge, which will serve as a fundraiser for the non-profit American Distance Project, will also offer participants palate cleansing hors devours, live music and a Green Man t-shirt. Registration is $44 and the field is limited to 44 players, including celebrity quaffers: Ryan Hannigan of Focus on the Beer and Carrie Simison, General Manager of the Colorado Springs Independent. Kokopelli Beer Company (Westminster) – Kokopelli Beer Company is hosting their first annual Bike-a-pelli Brew-off. The Brew-off begins June 21st at 11:00a.m. at 8931 Harlan St., Westminster CO 80031. The Kokopelli Crew joined into 4 teams to craft their own blonde ale. Those four blondes are being tapped this Saturday to celebrate the summer solstice! Guests will receive the four specialty blonde tasters, the original blonde taster and one house pint for the price of $10.00. When guests are finished with the blondes they will vote most to least favorite. When the kegs run out they will tally the votes to get one grand winning team. That winning team will brew their blonde on the large system and that will be Kokopelli’s first summer ale. Come celebrate the summer solstice with Kokopelli Beer Company this Saturday with blonde ales, stout floats and karaoke!

Hops & Pie (Berkeley) – Almanac Beer Company is coming to Colorado! Well, their beers are anyway. Fans of Almanac will want to jump over to the Berkeley neighborhood to Hops & Pie for their upcoming special event set for Sunday, June 22 at 2pm. They will be celebrating Almanac Beer Company’s release into Colorado and putting up 5 different Almanac beers on tap including: Strawberry Dogpatch (wine barrel aged), Golden Gate Gose, Almanac IPA, Honey Saison, and Farmer’s Reserve Blackberry (aged in wine barrels). San Francisco based Almanac is known for creating seasonal artisan ales using local fruits and vegetables in barrels. Try one or a flight of them all; you will not be disappointed.

Odell Brewing Co (Ft. Collins) – Join Odell at their Tap Room on June 21st & 22nd for a Release party both days. They’ll have live music from 3:30pm to 5:30pm on Sunday and they will be introducing Trellis Garden Ale, part of their Cellar Series. Trellis Garden Ale is brewed with locally grown herbs and spices from The Gardens on Spring Creek, and is a stroll through the garden in a glass – a sip of summer and a harvest of flavor. Coriander, cilantro, pineapple mint, lavender and rose petal bloom in this bright pale ale. Hoppy hints of citrus and fresh cut grass balance the malty sweetness and enhance the subtle floral spice for a refreshing finish. $1 from each bottle of Trellis Garden Ale sold will go to The Gardens on Spring Creek. We’ll drink to that!

BRU Handbuilt Ales & Eats (Boulder) – BRU Handbuilt Ales & Eats, which was originally conceived and founded in chef Ian Clark’s Boulder garage, will celebrate its second anniversary today with a party from 1 to 8 p.m. There will be special tapping’s, including the 1st Anniversary bomber pouring at 2:30 and the 2nd Anniversary release at 3:30, along with live music and a pig roast with all the fixins’. Tickets are $25 in advance.

Our Mutual Friend Malt & Brew (Five Points) – Keep the Glass! Every Tuesday for $10 you get an artist series glass (10oz) and three fills (under 8% abv). Every month (or while supplies last), Our Mutual Friend will feature a new artist. Support local art and local suds!

Future Events

June 28th & 29th – Colorado Brewers’ Festival (Ft. Collins) – For the 25th annual Colorado Brewers’ Festival this year, the fest is getting together with Odell Brewing Company and CooperSmith’s Pub & Brewing to brew up a special 25th Anniversary Ale that will be available during the upcoming festival June 28th & 29th in Fort Collins, CO. The brewing happens today and the beer will be ready just in time for the fest. Look for it! Tickets are available now at the official fest website.

June 29th – City Star Brewing (Berthoud) – The 2nd Annual Hops and Harley is a benefit for National Mill Dog Rescue featuring City Star craft beer, live music, and food trucks and of course the chance to meet Harley, the brewery adopted mascot!

July 25th – Beer Camp Across America (Civic Center Park – Denver) – Eighty Colorado breweries have signed on to join fellow brewers and beer lovers at Sierra Nevada’s Beer Camp Across America, an unprecedented traveling beer festival that will take place later this summer. Nearly 700 craft brewers from around the country have already signed on for the multi-weekend event; anticipating more than 1,300 total craft beers on tap, collectively representing almost every state in the union, Beer Camp Across America promises to be the largest craft beer celebration in history. Colorado breweries have signed on in droves to take part in the historic event. The following will make the trek to the Rocky Mountain edition taking place Friday, July 25th 5-10pm at Civic Center Park in Denver. Beer fans are snatching up tickets for each of the seven events at www.SierraNevada.com/BeerCamp. Each festival will feature up to two beers per brewery, food vendors, and live music by the March Fourth Marching Band spectacle.
