Welcome back to another installment of PorchDrinking’s Weekly Denver Beer Beat. The Denver Beer Beat brings news of openings, special tappings, firkins and one-off batches, bottle releases, dinners, pairings, anniversaries, tap takeovers etc.

Wednesday, September 3rd 

Hops & Pie Artisan Pizzeria and Craft Brew Taproom (Berkeley) – Wednesday is $2 Craft Can Night from 5pm-close at Hops and Pie.  This Week’s Artisan Sandwich: Beer braised bratwurst, mustard/cheddar/IPA sauce, kraut & crispy potatoes on a house made pretzel roll!!

Beers Made By Walking: GABF Edition (LoDo/Union Station) – Just a heads up, but Beers Made By Walking festival tickets go on sale tomorrow at noon! Don’t be left out! The festival will feature over 32 place-based and landscape inspired beers! Most of the beers at the festival were created specifically for this event. Tickets are $40 and give visitors unlimited access to the beers, until they run out. More info and tickets can be found here.

TRVE Brewing (Denver) – Recent Draft Release! TRVE’s latest brew, “N.P.O.N.,” hit the taplines on Tuesday. The beer is an Equinox pale Ale (6.7% ABV) that’s crisp and spicy with a little honeydew flavor and aroma. Hump Day got you down? N.P.O.N. will undoubtedly help out the humming in your head.

River North Brewery (Denver) – River North Brewery have another gem from the cellar for this week’s Wayward Wednesday – it’s their original brett beer and most limited release to date, J. Marie Barreled & Bretted! Single keg only, tomorrow (September 3rd) at 3pm!

Westminster Brewing Co. (Westminster) – Westminster Brewing has 4 extra tickets to the Great American Beer Festival and will be doing a raffle giveaway on Sept. 27th. Starting Sept. 1st, customers can purchase a raffle ticket for $3 in which the proceeds will be going to the Westminster Legacy Foundation.  Who doesn’t love the chance to win tickets to GABF all while helping out a great cause?!

Copper Kettle Brewing CO (Southeast’est Denver) – Every Wednesday, CKBC releases a fun and interesting one off cask. CKatering food truck will be there as well. This week, CKBC release Cucumber Saison, using English cucumber has far less seeds reducing the bitter taste of the cucumber leaving the Saison characteristics to come through.

High Hops Brewery (Windsor) – FIRKIN RELEASE at 5pm. High Hops will tap a firkin of their “Hunny Bunches” Cream Ale! This light ale is breakfast in a glass. It has a nice honey sweetness with a crisp, nutty finish. You will want to have another “bowl!” Then on Friday, September 5th, the brewery will release Peach Larone – a light ale with a punch of peach just in time for peach harvesting season!

Thursday, September 4th

Euclid Hall (LoDo/CBD) – This Thursday Euclid Hall will be kicking off their Road to GABF beer dinner series with New Belgium Brewing and they couldn’t be more excited! The favorite pairing among staff seems to be strawberry duck egg fried ice cream paired with a very sour Cherry Felix (thats a mother foeder folks). They have just a few tickets left, get yours today.

Great Divide Brewing Company (Cheesman Park) The last #unwind event is this Thursday at the Denver Botanic Gardens! Come enjoy some Great Divide beer, food and live music set to an amazing backdrop featuring the #Chihuly exhibition. Tickets are still available at the Botanic Gardens website. Other breweries pouring are: Colorado Cider Co., Hall Brewing Company, Left Hand Brewery, and Strange Craft Beer Co.

Blue Spruce Brewing (Centennial) – Beginning on Thursday, September 4th, Blue Spruce will extend their business hours on Sundays, Mondays and Thursdays to accommodate all the football games and fans. Enjoy a beer, a bite and watch a game on one of their many TVs.

Friday, September 5th

Lowry Beer Garden (Lowry) – Lowry Beer Garden will strike up the band again for Oktoberfest, celebrating the German-style beer party for three weekends in a row this month. And this year, the spot’s new sister location, Green Valley Ranch Beer Garden, will also celebrate. Left Hand Brewing will take over the taps today and tomorrow, from 5 to 9 p.m., pouring Oktoberfest, Milk Stout Nitro, Polestar Pilsner and 400 Pound Monkey. There will also be oom-poah bands in the house each weekend, including Austrian Connection, The Rhinelanders and the Peter Kron Band — not to mention Lowry’s collection of brats and dogs. So dust off your dirndl, polka shoes and lederhosen for this annual fall tradition. Anyone wearing the getup gets their first beer free!

Fall Harvest Brewfest (Fort Collins) – The 6th Annual Fall Harvest Brewfest  will be from 7pm – 10pm @ the Lincoln Center. Over 40 Brewers and Distillers, music and food!! All put together raising money for our friends at the Animal House. Tickets can be purchased without a service charge at Wilburs Total Beverage, Lincoln Center or the Animal House. Ticket prices can be found on the website www.fallharvestbrewfest.com VIP gets in one hour early. Drink beer save a dog!!!

Parry’s Pizzeria & Bar (Highlands Ranch & Greenwood Village) – SAMUEL ADAMS STEIN HOISTING COMPETITION!! Think you can hoist a full liter stein longer than anyone else? Samuel Adams’ stein hoisting competition returns for another season as we search high and low for two national champions to send to the Oktoberfest celebration in Munich, Germany. Try your strength at the Highlands Ranch location on Thursday evening and at the Greenwood Village location on Friday evening.

Copper Kettle Brewing Co. (Southeast’est Denver) – 12pm – The kids are back in school and fall is just around the corner. What better way to welcome the cooler weather than with a Double Pilsner?! The “Stinger Imperial Pils” is a hoppy, dry imperial pilsner with local Colorado wildflower honey! Coming in at 7.1% with 53 IBU’s this combo proves to be a tasty treat! Swing in to the brewery for a pint today!!

Trinity Brewing (Colorado Springs) – ROADTRIP!!!! Trinity Brewing in Southern Colorado will be releasing their Emma’s Pumpkin Saison on Friday evening. Emma’s Pumpkin, Citrouille Saison. Brewed with Garam Masala, brown sugar, torch roasted and caramelized sugar pumpkins, white sage, coriander, and mace. This fall version of the Belgian style tastes just like pumpkin pie … If you were in Belgium. 9.5% ABV; limited bottling.

Oskar Blues Brewery Tasty Weasel Taproom (Longmont) – On Friday, September 5th between 5-8pm, swing into the Tasty Weasel to meet book author, Russ Phillips. He will be on hand with plenty of copies of his book “CANNED! Artwork of the Modern American Beer Can”. There will also be plenty of awesome canned craft beer available too. Come say Hi, check out the book, and grab a beer.

Saturday, September 6th

Denver Beer Co (LoDo/Union Station) – DBC will host its annual Hop Swap today at the Platte Street taproom. In the spring, the brewery gives away hops plants, which people plant in their backyards. Then, in August and September, they harvest their hops and bring the cones to Denver Beer Co, which will use them to brew its Neighborhood Hop Swap Ale. At 2 p.m., the brewery will start its weigh-in ceremony “where each farmer’s harvest will be weighed and a prize will be awarded for the most cones by weight,” the brewery says. “Immediately following, each farmer will ceremoniously toss their hops into the brew.” If you can’t go to the ceremony, you can still bring your hops in (in a paper bag labeled with your name), starting at 3 p.m. on September 3. The beer will be tapped in a few weeks.

Station 26 (Northeast Park Hill) – 1pm – 9pm – To celebrate the release of our H26P, Hops & Pie’s new house IPA(!!!), we’re throwing a bash with the H&P crew. Hops & Pie will be grilling pizzas all day, The Bumblebee Truck will be selling desserts, and Station 26 will be tapping H26P IPA firkins at 2PM and 4 PM. Johhny Miller and Erinn Lukes play live at 7PM. There’s a S26BC + Hops &Pie schwag raffle at 8PM.

Casey Brewing & Blending (Glenwood Springs) – ROAD TRIP FOR A BOTTLE RELEASE!!!! Casey Brewing & Blending will release Cherry Fruit Stand Farmhouse Ale today from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Fruit Stand series consists of Casey’s saison aged on different Colorado fruits. There are two versions of Cherry Fruit Stand, one made with sweet cherries and one with sour Balaton cherries. Both will be available on tap ($6 a pour) and in bottles ($16 each with a six-bottle limit). Casey will also be pouring Saison Blend Two, Saison Blend Three ($5 a pour) or by the bottle ($15), and selling Saison Blend Three ($15 per bottle). There are forty cases of Saison Blend Three and twenty cases each of the Cherry Fruit Stands.

Tour De Fat Denver (City Park) – 10am – 5pm – New Belgium Brewing brings back Tour De Fat to Denver to City Park.This year marks the 15th season for Tour de Fat, which will travel to 10 cities across the U.S. These day-long festivities are free in every city, but the proceeds from beer sales go to local non-profits. Since its inception, Tour de Fat has raised more than $3 million, and raised half-a-million dollars last year alone. The events kick off with a costumed bicycle parade that winds through city streets, ending in a city park. That’s when eclectic entertainment takes over from musical acts to yo-yo performers, bike contests and even vaudeville acts. This year will also include some brewing education and feature a “Bicycle Revival” to inspire festival-goers to believe in the power of two-wheeled transportation. Skip the parade lines and pre-register today to sign the parade waiver and donate to receive a limited edition 2014 Tour de Fat license plate, light or sunglasses.

Gravity Brewing (Louisville) – ANNIVERSARY PARTY!!!!!-  2 Year Anniversary Party, happening this Saturday, 9/6 from Noon – 10pm! Look for updates on their social media outlets all week. Gravity Brewing will be offering special barrel aged and small batch beer tappings, a special food menu from Worldwide Vittles, and live music from The Longest Day of the Year (1:30pm – 4:30pm) and Full Belly (6-9pm). The special tappings will come every hour – on the hour.  Look for: Rum Barrel Aged Mendacious Golden Strong, Apple Whiskey Barrel Aged Mendacious, Brett Barrel Aged Mendacious, Brett Barrel Aged IPA, Brett Barrel Aged ESB, Barrel Aged Coffee Stout, Flanders Red, and more!

The Brew Hut (Aurora) – The Brew Hut now offers homebrew classes! These introductory classes will give you the basics that you need to get started in homebrewing. Each class will feature a hands-on demonstration, a bottling demonstration, and homebrew sampling. Classes cost $25 for one person and $40 for two people. Each class is limited to 8 participants. Boulder Valley Beer Fest (Superior) – The Rotary Club of Boulder Valley is excited to announce the first annual Boulder Valley Beer Fest to be held on Saturday, September 6 from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m.   The festival will take place in conjunction with the Town of Superior’s annual Chili Fest and will be held at the Superior Community Park, 1350 Coalton Road, Superior.  A list of the breweries can be found here and tickets for the festival can be purchased here.

3rd Annual Lafayette Craft Brew & BBQFestival (Lafayette) – For this year’s installment of the Lafayette Craft Brew and BBQ Festival, the event will be held at the Atlas Valley Shopping Center. For the past two years, and again this year, professional and amateur BBQ Chefs and Craft Brewers will gather for a friendly but spirited competition. (Competition is for the BBQ vendors and amateur brewers.) Professional restaurants and brewers will provide tasting samples to attendees. Music and kid’s activities along with a variety of community vendors make this the ideal way to spend a Saturday afternoon while supporting the philanthropic outreach of both the YMCA of Boulder Valley and the Boulder Rotary Club. Sanitas Brewing Co (Boulder) – New kid on the block no more, Sanitas Brewing Co. is in the process of planning their first anniversary celebration. On Saturday, September 6th the central Boulder brewery will host a party featuring several rare beer tappings, a grown up bake sale with beer infused cupcakes, a crawfish boil put on by McDevitt Taco Supply, and tunes spun by DJ Z-Staar throughout the evening. Doors open and first special beer tapped at 12pm (noon). Crawfish boil kicks off shortly after with Grown Up Bake Sale. Beers will be tapped periodically throughout the day with DJ Z-Staar kicking off around 8pm.

It’s your chance for regulars who frequently stop in to fill their growlers to save around 50% off regular single fills. For $110, you get $207 worth of value! Join the club and you get a Growler Card, a logo Yak & Yeti growler, one free growler fill each month, and a $10 credit for an appetizer or any food on your birthday. Monday, September 8th

Jagged Mountain (Five Points) – 6pm – 7pm – Could yoga and beer ever co-exist? You bet your flexible-ass they can! BrewAsanas takes a rocking one-hour yoga class and follows it up with a beer from Jagged Mountain. This all levels class is ideal for anyone who is interested in exploring yoga in a different and chill environment and look to expand their minds in respect to local beers! What more can you want than yoga and beer? Each session includes a 1-hour yoga session followed by a pint of your choice. Bring a mat and water. Dry-Dock-Sig-Series-2014-Imp.Stout - dbb - 09-03-14

Dry Dock Brewing Co (Aurora) – Last week Dry Dock Brewing Co. released the Signature Series Whiskey Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout in 22 oz. bombers (9.2% ABV 50 IBU). The 2014 Signature Series release of the Imperial Stout is the first of this year’s Signature Series, a collection of small-batch, barrel-aged imperial and double beers. It is the first time this whiskey barrel-aged Imperial Stout has been available outside of the taproom. Less than 200 cases of bombers will be distributed throughout the state of Colorado.

Federal Bar & Grill (Jefferson Park) – Monday night Beer Club tonight at Fed Bar & Grill! They have select craft pints for $3 from 6pm-11pm for Beer Club members. Sign up is free.

Tuesday, September 9th

Hops & Pie (Berkeley) – Tuesday night 23! Every Tuesday, snag one 18” 2-topping pizza + 2 drafts = $23 from 5pm-close.
