{Press Release} Niwot, CO, January 27, 2015 — Powder Keg Brewing Company launches their second bottled offering. Pride of Palisade is a farmhouse style ale fermented with honey, peaches and Brettanomyces. “I have family ties to Palisade and it’s really special to me to be able to use fresh picked, whole Palisade Peaches in this beer,” says Brewmaster Phil Joyce. “My grandmother grew up in Palisade and packed peaches during the summers. I remember the pride she took in being the fastest packer and earning the nickname ‘Peaches’. Palisade Peaches are the best peaches I have ever eaten and every time I bite into one I think of her. This beer is a way of preserving that memory and spirit for me.” The beer pours a golden honey color with abundant peach aromas and flavors. As the beer warms, tartness and subtle white pepper phenolics present themselves. “It really develops with time in the glass and unique flavors and nuances present themselves over time” Phil says. Take your time and enjoy this beer with good company and conversation. Phil is proud to have sourced all the ingredients for this beer from Colorado. Barley and wheat came from the Colorado Malting Company in Alamosa, clover honey from the Colorado Honey Man in Longmont, and 600 pounds of Palisade peaches from Ela Family Farms. Pride of Palisade will be available on draft and in bottles for takeout in the Niwot taproom (located at 101 2nd Ave, Niwot, CO 80544) beginning Friday January 31st.

To pay homage to this historical class of beer, craft brewers have declared the 1st International Gruit Day. Many breweries around the country will be celebrating by bringing you their best Gruit creations. At Dry Dock Brewing Co. in Aurora, CO, their brewers are passionate about gruit as a style of beer. In honor of this tradition, Dry Dock’s brewers created a beer called the Bunny Gruit using rose hips, yarrow, rosemary, fresh ground ginger root, and Spanish orange peel instead of hops. This beer was fermented in French oak red wine barrels with Belgian Saison 1 (565) & Brettanomyces (Brux) yeasts.
