Now, onto the beer! This review is not a side-by-side comparison, it is only meant to showcase each of the beers separate from one another. They are both kick-ass in their own right and we would never instruct you to be exclusive about what 4 Noses brew you are trying to get down your gullet.

4 Noses Brewing Co. | Bareback Blonde Ale

ABV: 6.5%
IBU: 12

This strong blonde ale is brewed with wheat and citrus-y west coast hops to give it a crisp, refreshing and flavorful profile that is aimed to please craft beer enthusiasts and occasional beer drinkers alike. The initial sweetness is balanced out by a bright hop aroma with hints of lemon peel and finishes very cleanly. This ale is part of 4 Noses Year Round Selection and can be found in six-packs.

Appearance – Light to deep gold color yet very clear. Medium, dense, and creamy white to off-white head dissipating but sustainable head. This ale is bright and inviting in the glass but could be packed for your next hike or outdoor event.

Aroma – Light and spicy hop nose, along with a lightly sweet Pils malt character. Showcasing a subtle yeast character includes a honey-like alcohol and big, lemony fruity esters. Light sweetness with a sugar-like character. This aroma is subtle yet complex and will please many a nose.

Flavor – Smooth malt sweetness followed with some smooth alcohol that lingers in the aftertaste. Medium hop and alcohol bitterness to balance. The light hop flavor is earthy but not the star of the show here. The soft lemon esters and alcohol is present in the yeast character. Some lightly caramelized sugar or honey-like sweetness remains on the palate.

Mouthfeel – The mouthfeel has medium carbonation yielding a medium body. This ale finishes with moderate alcohol warmth, but it’s a smooth drinker.

Overall Impression – This moderate-strength golden ale has a subtle complexity, slightly sweet flavor, and dry finish. This crisp blonde ale is well rounded and balanced as all get out. The lemon shines through and really showcases the citrus-y hops. This ale begs for a nearby porch and some of your closest friends but be careful with the ABV this one. It drinks like a session but brings the flavor and brings the party! Good on you 4 Noses!

4 Noses Brewing Co. | Make My Day Session IPA

ABV: 5.0%
IBU: 42

This session IPA is the perfect combination of a light, crisp malt profile with an over abundance of Passion fruit and Citrus Aromas and hop flavors. Geared for the hop head who would like to enjoy pounds of delicious west coast hops without the side effects of 7 or 8% ABV, this is an all day all weather IPA. This ale is part of 4 Noses Year Round Selection and can be found in six-packs.

Appearance – Color is medium gold and with a slight bit of haze. Good head stand persist and moves from big and frothy to rocky and pillow-y white clouds.

Aroma – Luscious peach, light floral and resin, clean hop punch. Some clean malty sweetness found in the background. This decidedly hoppy and bitter, moderately low ABV India Pale Ale boasts all of what you expect to nose in a beer twice its weight.

Flavor – Interesting dynamic from a different IPA grain bill than most session IPA’s; while the hops pack light fruit, apricot, resin, and a delightful rounded fruity flavor. Bitterness is present but isn’t harsh. A dry finish makes you keep coming back for more.

Mouthfeel – Big, bubbly mouthfeel with a pleasant finish. The smooth, medium-bodied mouthfeel lends some structure for the malts that are present to ride out the wave of citrus-y hops. Not sticky or sweet at all, proving to really embody the sessionable quaff you want on a warm spring day.

Overall Impression – Coming in at a modest 5.0% this is the epitome of a session ale. I am not sure what the wording “Sessions Ale” means in context to the name of this beer but I will theorize that they are already hinting at the fact that this easy drinking, hop packed IPA will see many more sessions in your future. I think this session IPA from 4 Noses ranks among my favorites out there and I will definitely be a repeat purchaser. This IPA literally just “Made My Day.”

You can try both of these offerings this Friday at Small Batch and talk shop with 4 Noses from 4pm-7pm!

4 Noses Bareback Blonde Ale and Make My Day Session Ale are both available at Small Batch Liquors.
