Founders Brewing Co. | Rübæus

Rubaeus

ABV: 5.7%
IBU: 15

Founders Brewing Co is one of those breweries that have a national following, and for good reason. They make incredible beer. When visiting Michigan for a beer tour a couple of summers back, my husband and I made sure to take a stop at Founders Brewing Co. They were right in the middle of an expansion of their Grand Rapids brewery at that time, but it didn’t prevent us from trying some of the delicious brews. I remember that the Rübæus stood out in my mind as one of the best fruit beers I had ever had.

More recently, my husband and I went on a beer tour of Austin, Texas and managed to snag a bottle of Rübæus to enjoy once we got back to Denver. (Here’s a shoutout to the fabulous bottle shop we purchased it at: WhichCraft.) After only being back home from traveling for a week, I couldn’t resist the urge to pull this beauty out of the fridge and start sipping. And while Founders does not distribute to Colorado, the occasion of having this beer ranks as a special one in my book. It was just as good as I remember it being too!

Rübæus is a very crushable ruby red colored pure Raspberry gem. At 5.7% it is light ,yet not too foo-foo as some fruit beers tend to be. It has a nice tartness, along with a balance of sweetness as well. The smell reminds me almost exactly of this French raspberry hard candy that came in a small tin, that I used to eat as a kid. It is hard to describe exactly, but it is definitely a sweet raspberry smell. So delightful!

Oh Rübæus, I love you so. I will dream of you until we meet again in another summer when I travel to one of your distributed locations…
