Goin’ Coastal | SweetWater Brewing Company
ABV: 6.1% | IBU: 50
Ahhh springtime… the snow has finally melted way, the sun makes its first appearance of the year, and the season’s best brews make their way into rotation. Among those in this year’s crop is SweetWater’s Goin’ Coastal, the latest addition to their Catch N’ Release seasonal rotation that is bound to make spring and summer more enjoyable for craft beer fans all over.
SweetWater debuted Goin’ Coastal IPA at their annual 420 Fest, showcasing a number of different musicians and the comedic-styling of Judah Friedlander. I was fortunate to make the 2016 edition of 420 Fest, my second consecutive trip, accompanied by my brother Mark, his wife Lauren, and a couple of friends. While the music was blasting, the atmosphere was perfect and everyone was having a great time. It was the beer that really stole the show. With demand high, I grabbed as many servings of Goin’ Coastal as I could gather.

Brewed with Columbus, Cascade, Simcoe and Goldings hops and dry-hopped with Cascade, Simcoe, Goldings and Centennial hops, Goin’ Coastal serves as a palatable platform for tropical flavors which it boasts very well. The pineapple flavor marries well with the plethora of hops and does well to subdue what could be expected to be a harsh hop bite. Pineapple flavors are noticeable throughout but are more pronounced on the finish. The balance of sweet and bitter makes for a very drinkable beer and a refreshing one, whether you’re jamming to some of your favorite tunes or chilling at the beach. Either way, Goin’ Coastal will be perfect for those sunny summer afternoons.
Once in rotation, Goin’ Coastal will be available in 12 oz bottles, 16 oz cans and draft, but only from May through August.
