Great Divide’s Barrel Aged series will be going into hibernation, no pun intended. As the #YetiMafia can attest to the true disappointment that this may bring to us all, don’t fret. There is a silver lining, (read: thin veil of white foam) and that may just make up for its hiatus.

When you were a kid, having a collection of something was as natural as jumping over cracks in the pavement. You collected rocks, playing cards, dolls, bugs, pogs and Polly Pockets. As an adult, you’re told that holding onto things isn’t healthy, and your wife/husband makes you get rid of all of your bottles that you are going to cut and turn into baller-ass DIY projects because they are taking up “prime real estate” in the garage.

“Be a minimalist. Don’t hoard. Clean out the garage, damnit,” he/she says, at least once a month.

But sometimes, sometimes you just want to gather up all your favorite things connected with your fondest memories. As Great Divide prepares to enter a new chapter with their Barrel Aged & Sour program, they are offering a limited edition box set ($30) that includes a compilation of their Barrel Aged Classics: Hibernation, Old Ruffian and Yeti — for the first, and possibly the last, time ever. Enjoy them now in a custom-designed Spiegelau glass (included in the box set), or save them for a day filled with nostalgia when all your comments seem to start with “I remember when…” Whatever you do, don’t put them anywhere near the “give away” pile in the garage. We all know how that ends.

Barrel Aged Hibernation Ale

Over 12 months in whiskey barrels has completely transformed our prized winter seasonal, producing a Hibernation that starts with big whiskey flavors before mellowing out into luscious chocolate, dark fruit and vanilla.

Barrel Aged Old Ruffian Barley Wine-Style Ale

This special release of our acclaimed, hefty barley wine has been aged for over 12 months in whiskey barrels. The process tempers Old Ruffian’s edges for a mellowed version with heady whiskey flavors and subtle oak notes. This rounded wonder clocks in at 85-90 IBUs.

Barrel Aged Yeti Imperial Stout

This unique version of our monstrous Yeti Imperial Stout is aged for at least 12 months in whiskey barrels. The spirited aging process produces a hugely complex but mellowed Yeti, with its signature roasted flavors, hints of vanilla and oak, and a whiskeyed finish.
