Heist Brewery | Blurred Is The Word IPA

There comes a time where the lines between “I’ll take another one of those” and “wow, what was the ABV on this again?” become blurred. We’ve all been there and I’d have to say it is a rare feat that is ultimately welcomed. Of course, when browsing a draft list or tap menu, you may take a glance but it’s rare you care to remember the ABV once you order and take a sip or two. Heist Brewery has successfully delivered this experience time and time again with their periodic staple, Blurred Is The Word.
When I got my hands on cans of Heist Brewery’s Blurred Is The Word, it was my first offering from the brewery. Heist Brewery is based out of Charlotte, NC in the city’s NoDa district and known for its juicy, aromatic IPAs and their brunch. Yes, brunch. Brunch and breweries are a combination I’ve just recently discovered and it is truly a match made in paradise.
From the moment I opened the can, notes of berries and tropical goodness flared the nose. There is nothing subtle here and I tend to instantly fall for a beer that entertains the nose as much as the palate. The American style IPA pours cloudy and opaque, synonymous with the New England style loved by many. It is brewed with both Mosaic and Azacca hops with a heavier allocation on the former.
Instantly there’s notes of tangerine followed by a bitter appearance from those Mosaic hops before a sessionable-like, clean finish. There’s no lingering mouthfeel here. This is a well-balanced beer one can enjoy over a course of an evening out. The label art is one from a simpler time in craft beer. I enjoy clever, witty labels as much as the next beer fan but this one definitely allows the beer to be the focal point. The colorful backdrop includes mounds of hops with playful, human hops at “peace”. All in all, I’m excited to see more from Heist after such an incredible drinking experience.
