Gift of Time- Stout Month Edition @ Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project (Denver) – 1441 West 46th Avenue, Denver, Colorado
Date/ Time: Wednesday, February 12- Sunday, February 16, from 12:00– 8:00 p.m..
Details: We’re excited to announce the -STOUT MONTH EDITION- of Gift Of Time, our Bourbon Barrel-aged Imperial Stout series.
For this unique edition we blended three different Imperial Stout recipes each initially brewed in 2016 and resting gracefully in Bourbon Barrels ever since. The first part, being the oldest, was an Imperial Stout-Porter brewed in April of 2016 with Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergso from Evil Twin and aged for 46 months in a single 12 year old Heaven Hill Bourbon barrel. The second part was an Imperial Stout brewed in May of 2016 and aged in a single Angels Envy barrel for 45 months. The remaining portion of the blend was comprised of an Imperial Rye Stout recipe brewed in June of 2016 and aged for 44 months in 10 year old Heaven Hill Bourbon Barrels. The over-all blend comes out to a 25/25/50 split between the recipes.
With the average age of this blend surpassing 44 months spent in the various bourbon barrels, it suffices to say this is another decadent ensemble of barrel characteristics. Bourbon layered on top of bourbon, each monstrous Imperial Stout recipe does well enriching and balancing the final blend. We are excited to share a little bit more of the barrel-aging projects we’ve been working on over the years and what better way to celebrate Stout Month here in Colorado then with another small release from our Bourbon Barrel Cellar!
Gift of Time -Stout Month Edition- has a rich assortment of aromas, comprised of maple syrup with a hint of vanilla, Belgian dark chocolate, cinnamon and raisins, while finishing with an even balance of dark fruit and bourbon dipped chocolate truffles. The Bourbon barrel derived characteristics come through smooth from all the years spent aging in the barrels with a light linger on the palate with each sip.

Travis Rupp, “Brewing Beer in Roman Britain @ University of Colorado Museum of Natural History (Boulder) – Henderson Building, 15th and Broadway, Boulder, Colorado
Date/ Time: Wednesday, February 12, from 7:00–8:30 p.m.
Details: This lecture will explore the production and consumption of beer in Roman occupied Britain from the invasions of Julius Caesar through the end of Roman rule in the 5th century. Beer was the primary drink of early peoples and nations in Britain before Roman arrival. Via regular contact with other major empires and nations, beer styles and brewing methodologies expanded throughout Northern Europe as well. For example, Celtic contact with Britain significantly influenced how they produced beer. Though beer from these regions was often scoffed at and deemed inferior to wine, the “barbarians” of the north were not the only people consuming it. Archaeological and literary evidence supports the mass production of beer for Rome’s legions serving on Hadrian’s Wall. This lecture will survey brewing at Vindolanda, Housesteads, and many other forts from the 1st and 2nd centuries CE. Largescale brewing coincided with the movement of the Roman legions, and new styles and flavors were created as Antoninus Pius pushed further north through the Midlands into Scotland. The construction of his wall promoted more brewing facilities, and the production of beer created a symbiotic relationship between the native brewers and the Roman consumers. These observations are witnessed in other regions of Roman provincial activity; an exploration of Roman castra and brewing facilities from Germanic territories in the late 2nd century CE will act as a comparative case study. This lecture will also present how beer was produced, what ingredients were used, how the beer likely tasted, and what (if any) traditions from the past are alive and well in British beer today.

February Keep the Glass and return of Popular Demand Kellerpils @ Novel Strand Brewing Company (Denver) – 305 1st ave, Denver, Colorado
Date/ Time: Wednesday, February 12, from 3:00–10:00 p.m.
Details: POPULAR DEMAND is back by… popular demand?…
Sorry it took a bit y’all, brewery life is crazy. But we’re happy to announce that our all NZ hopped Kellerpils is making its triumphant return! A carefully considered amount of Kohatu, Motueka, Tai Heke (NZ Cascade), and Waimea are the usual suspects for this pilsner- fermented cold and slow with yeast from our friends, mentors and lager masters at Bierstadt Lagerhaus-, but because it’s taken a while to get it back on tap, we also gave this batch a nice rub of some beautiful Nelson Sauvin hops. Classic pilsner flavor base with light, delicate and enjoyable splashes of grapes, gooseberry, and tropical fruit. 5,1% ABV.
To Celebrate the return, we’re also going to offer a super special version of our sexy 10 oz glass, designed by our homie Josh Shively! Loaded with subtle messages to remind your friends that you’re a classic feller/fellerette, and that you enjoy your lagers properly, with only the required amount of hops and nothing more- unless, of course, those hops are NZ hops. Then it’s cool. $14 gets you 3 fills plus the glass to take home! Party!

King of Carrot Flowers Can Release @ Ratio Beerworks (Denver) – 2920 Larimer St, Denver, Colorado
Date/ Time: Thursday, February 13, from 12:00 –11:30 p.m.
Details: Available Thursday, February 13 at Noon
6-packs of 12oz cans (500 available)
$12 per 6-pack
1 case limit per day per person
Includes complimentary commemorative koozie
—————————————————-
To commemorate Ratio Beerworks‘ 5th Anniversary, we borrowed a canning line from our friends at Codi Manufacturing to release 500 6-packs of a limited anniversary-only can release of King of Carrot Flowers, Carrot and Elderflower Saison.
First introduced in celebration of EatDenver‘s 2017 Harvest Week at The GrowHaus, King of Carrot Flowers bursts forth in an illuminate, ripe cantaloupe orange hue, while exhibiting subtle fruit-forward citrus notes and nuances of pear, honey, coriander, and vanilla brought on by the elderflower.
Because beer is food, this vibrant, expressive, dry Saison showcases the versatility that can occur between the culinary and brewing world. Fermented with 100% fresh-pressed organic carrot juice and “dry-hopped” with elderflower, King of Carrot Flowers represents the complete journey from the fields of the farm, to the streets of the city and into the beer drinker’s glass.
While Ratio still isn’t diving head-on into canning full-time, this anniversary-only release in 6-packs of 12oz cans will be available when the brewery opens at Noon on Thursday, February 13 with a limit of one case per customer per day. The beer will also be on-draft in the taproom for a limited time. As an added bonus, each person who purchases 6-packs of King of Carrot Flowers to-go will receive a commemorative koozie while supplies last.
Thursday’s can release joins a full week of programming to celebrate Ratio’s 5th Anniversary.

Belgian Chocolate Raspberry Love Stout @ Strange Craft Beer Company (Denver) – 1330 Zuni St, Unit M, Denver, Colorado
Date/ Time: Friday, February 14 from 12:00 – 10:00 p.m..
Details: Our annual Valentine’s Day seasonal was first brewed in 2012 with John and Stacy Turk. Colorado Craft Beer Radio was a huge supporter of Strange in our early days and it was John’s and Gary’s tireless work telling the story of craft beer in Colorado that helped many craft beer enthusiasts find Strange in our early days. The credit for the recipe though has to go to Stacy. She created this chocolate lover’s dream, finding the right combo of chocolate and raspberries to satisfy any Belgian truffles fan. Why give your special someone a box of chocolates when a pint of Belgian Chocolate Love Stout is so much better? This year’s batch comes in at 10.5% abv.

Valentine’s Day Special Tapping @ Call to Arms Brewing Company (Denver) – 4526 Tennyson St, Denver, Colorado
Date/ Time: Friday, February 14 from 3:00 – 11:00 p.m..
Details: We figured Valentine’s Day is as good excuse as any to give a super sneak preview of a very special barrel-aged project that has been in the works for a while now. On Friday, February 14th, we will be tapping a scant sixtel of How ‘Bout a Can of Wine?, a red wine puncheon-aged wine hybrid brewed with 50% Sangiovese grapes. We won’t officially release this beer until the end of March, but we’re so emphatically excited about it, we thought we’d give everyone just a tiny taste!
Aged for 10 months in red wine puncheons, How ‘Bout a Can of Wine? is a complex sour ale sparkling with a brilliant peach-rosy hue. Delicately floral and fruity with light oak character and a pleasant Brett funk. Expect notes of green melon, grape skin, soft cranberry, and unripe tart raspberries. Let it warm up a touch, and this dynamic beer just keeps getting better and better. Why in the world are we calling it How ‘Bout a Can of Wine?, you ask?…well, you’re just gonna have to wait and see.
Come treat yo’ self or someone you love to this unique & special beer!

Our take on a traditional IPA that’s packed with a juicy hop profile from a combination of Simcoe, Chinook and Moutere hops. We ventured to the mountains the morning of brew day and picked the freshest of spruce branches, then added it to the whirlpool to give this beer a dank spruce finish. Incredibly smooth and extra drinkable at 8.3% ABV and 90 IBU. It’s perfect for hop heads, juice lovers and adventurous drinkers alike. Come get Lost In Spruce with us!

Pancake Sunday and Imperial Stout Release @ Novel Strand Brewing Company (Denver) – 305 1st ave, Denver, Colorado
Date/ Time: Sunday, February 16 from 10:00 a.m.- 11:00 p.m..
Details: It’s February, and everyone says it’s stout month. While we choose to be carefree rebels who usually do whatever the funk we want, we’re teaming up with our Coffee homies Queen City Collective Coffee, and Chef Hiro & Midori of Ninja Ramen Mobile because we’ve got something super special to share with you, friends!
As you know by now, Queen City sources some of the most wonderous coffees from around the world, and we like using those coffee varieties in our beer. Our favorite choices are naturally processed coffees originating in Ethiopia, which are fermented and dried in raised beds for several weeks. This process provides potential for unique flavors of berries, tropical fruits, acidity, and flowers. In order to bring out as much of the unique flavors as we possibly can, we work with QC’s roaster-man Luke (aka MC Luke Nasty, aka Lukaccino, aka roastmaster flex, aka laidback Luke) on a completely customized roasting process. On our end, we loaded our mash tun with Maris Otter, Golden Promise, Chocolate and dark Crystal Malts, flaked oats, flaked barley, and water, and then used only the first runnings to make this beer, fermented with our choice dark beer yeast. On its own, the stout is smooth, delicate, with a light chai-spice bake character, and extremely low ‘heat’ (booziness), sweetness, and bitterness for an 8,3% beer. It’s balanced perfectly to play with the coffee flavors. Following our proprietary cold infusion process, the resulting beer tastes like a raspberry chocolate cake, decadent and addictive (think real red velvet cake).
We’ll be offering the stout, LAUGHING ALL THE WAY TO THE BANCO, beautifully fluffy pancakes made by Chef Hiro, and black coffee pours of our custom roast together between 10:00-12:00, so you can get the full experience and maximize your Sunday morning (before full ramen and beer menus start at noon!). Don’t miss out on this… the last imperial coffee stout disappeared far faster than we could have anticipated.
