Date/Time: Sunday, March 15 from 10am –  4pm

Details: Mockery Brewing would like to invite any and all homebrewers and homebrew clubs to participate in our annual “Making a Mockery” homebrew competition. Mockery will be brewing up a virgin wort (un-hopped, single malt) to distribute to a limited number of homebrewers/homebrew clubs. Mockery will be brewing the morning of March 15th. There will be approximately 60-70 entry spots available for the competition. Entry fees will be $15 for 5 gallons of wort and $25 for 10 gallons. Mockery will bring the wort up to a boil and then run the wort through the heat exchanger to bring it back down to approximately 60F to fill carboys. Entrants must pick up the wort from Noon-3pm, provide their own carboys, and purchase any other ingredients for their respective brews. All final samples will be due back at Mockery within 8 weeks (May 10th), entries can be dropped off earlier, too.

Some details:

1. Wort will be 100% Genie Pale Malt, the gold medal-winning malt from Root Shoot Malting (Loveland, CO).

2. Original Gravity will be approximately 1.050 (specific gravity).

3. All entries must violate the rules set forth by the Reinheitsgebot, meaning an ingredient outside of water, malt, yeast, and hops must be used. Bacteria will be considered as an acceptable ingredient outside of the Reinheitsgebot.

4. Any yeast, hops, spices, fruits, etc. can be used to produce a truly unique beer. We provide the canvas, you must channel your inner Jackson Pollock to create a work of beer art.

5. Prizes:

1st Place will receive a $100 gift card to Mockery Brewing, Winner’s Trophy, and Mockery will brew the winners recipe on their 15 barrel system with the winner(s). If the winner belongs to a homebrew club, that club will also be invited out for the brew day on Mockery’s system and the club will also receive the much-coveted Brewer’s Trophy. The winner and one guest of their choice will also be invited to Mockery’s 6th-anniversary party in November to drink for free.

2nd Place will receive a $50 gift card to Mockery Brewing.

3rd Place will receive one item of merchandise of their choice (up to $25 value).

6. Judging samples should be submitted in two bottles, 12oz or larger. Winner announced on May 31st. We will loosely be using BJCP judging/scoring sheets, but the beers need not fit into category style guidelines. Like our beers, we are ultimately concerned with how well made, balanced, and flavorful they are and not how stylistically correct they are.

March Dual Can Release Extravaganza @ Novel Strand Brewing (Denver) – 305 1st ave, Denver, Colorado 80223

Date/Time: Tuesday, March 17 from 3pm –  10pm

Details: Novel Strand has got something special for you beautiful people this month of March! They’re releasing 2 dope beers in cans for y’all; one of thei favorite beers, and a brand new beer, featuring the most sought after hop on planet Earth!

SHADES OF GREEN is the final frontier. A strong hoppy ale brewed with pilsner, golden promise, flaked oats, and flaked wheat, then loaded to the brim with Idaho #7 (USA), Mosaic (USA), Nelson Sauvin (NZ), and Strata (USA). This is a bomb of flavor with big waves of guava, mango berries, papaya, and stanky, stanky herb. This beer is cheating, but whatever, they do what they want. 7,2% ABV, $20/4pack.

WEAPON OF CHOICE: RIWAKA is a statement. It’s a flex. Riwaka is an extremely rare hop from New Zealand. It’s renowned for its unique flavor profile of distinct passion fruit and citrus, but is difficult to grow, can yield very little, and thus is quite difficult to acquire. But acquire it they did. And they wanted to share its pure expression with you all. This is the first time this hop has been used in such a manner in this state. Novel Strand brewed their WOC base with pilsner malt, flaked oats, and flaked wheat, and then used only Riwaka for any hop addition this beer met. Mouthwatering flavors of passionfruit and grape cannabis abound in this absolute crusher. You will quickly understand why this hop is a favorite of some of the best hop utilizing breweries in the world. 5,6% ABV, $20/4pack.
