West Sixth Brewing To Open New Location in Newport, Kentucky
West Sixth Brewing is set to open a new retail location and taproom in Newport, Kentucky — West Sixth Box Park. West Sixth Brewing opened its main brewery and taproom at 501 W. Sixth St. in Lexington, Kentucky in 2012. Since then, they have opened three more Kentucky locations: West Sixth Greenroom in downtown Lexington (currently closed due to Covid-19), West Sixth NuLu in Louisville and the West Sixth Farm in Frankfort.
West Sixth Box Park will open in mid-May and will be housed in a shipping container in Bridgeview Box Park, an open-air venue at at the multi-level retail entertainment destination Newport on the Levee. Bridgeview Box Park opened in mid-2020 to provide a safe space for patrons to enjoy shopping, food and drink as businesses reopened and adapted to the “new normal” during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Our goal with every location is to say something that’s distinct and local to each one,” said Kelly Hieronymus, West Sixth Brewing’s creative and marketing director. “Northern Kentucky is a unique place and we want to form an identity for West Sixth Box Park that reflects that. A priority for us is always becoming an active and engaged part of the communities we’re located in — not simply operating a business in them. We’re looking forward to meeting many more people from the northern part of the state and making a home in Newport.”
Co-founder and Director of Sales, Brady Barlow, noted: “We pride ourselves on being Kentucky’s beer, so we’re always looking at ways to go deeper into our state to touch every corner of it. We’ve always had good sales and a strong base of fans in Northern Kentucky; in the past we’ve participated in a number of festivals in the region, including Oktoberfest in Covington and special events at Newport on the Levee. Now we’ll be able to extend on those with a physical location and go deeper, forming more meaningful connections with customers in Northern Kentucky.”
“As a Northern Kentucky native, I grew up witnessing the traditions and vibrant cultural history of the area,” said Matt Fay, sales manager and West Sixth Box Park project manager. “I’m really excited to finally have a more permanent footprint in this rejuvenated development in Newport’s hub of tourism and local entertainment.”
Beers available on draft and to-go at West Sixth Box Park’s rotating tap will include one-off and seasonal releases, along with standards and flagships like West Sixth IPA, Pennyrile Pale Ale and Pay It Forward Cocoa Porter. West Sixth Brewing is sure to be an asset to Newport due to its mission statement of “brewing high quality creative beers, making positive social impact on the communities we’re a part of, and creating an awesome place to work for our team.”
