Retro video games and gaming systems have grown in popularity over the past several years. Even though new games and gaming systems have mind-blowing graphics, there are a large number of people who enjoy a good throwback.

Double Dribble is a classic game that comes to mind in the retro category. It also must have been on the minds of Williamsburg, Virginia-based Precarious Beer Project as well.

Teamwork makes the dream work

Precarious teamed up with another Virginia-based brewery called Capsoul Brewing Collective to bring us a Double New England-style IPA called Double Dripple.

Julie Tridente, the director of brewing operations for Precarious explained that Double Dripple stemmed from one of their previous collaborations with Capsoul called Full Drip. It was a blueberry French toast sour ale and the drip in the name referred to the dripping syrup.

Dripalicious

“With Double Dripple, we switched gears and brewed this Hazy DIPA with copious amounts of Nectaron and Riwaka. The drip here refers to drippy, dank hop resins and oils from the varietals,” said Adrian Garrett, head brewer for Precarious.

Tridente notes that Double Dripple has become their favorite collaboration beer to this point. The Nectaron and Riwaka push huge aromatics of freshly squeezed orange juice, dank white grape and passionfruit. You get a super soft mouthfeel from large additions of oats and wheat, with a semi dry finish. “We can’t wait to see where this recipe leads us in the future,” said Garrett.

A chance meeting

The collaboration between Precarious and Capsoul happened because of a chance encounter. Precarious was hosting a taproom event where a mutual friend connected the two breweries. “Our friend put us in touch and three collaborations later here we are,” said Tridente.

Capsoul Brewing Collective have become very good friends with the fine folks at Precarious Beer Project. Tridente explained that the team at Capsoul are incredibly committed to getting their operation off the ground, and they make great beer. “It was only fitting that we got together to collab and also give them a space to get some of their ideas and creativeness out into the world before their brick and mortar is established,” said Tridente.

Label art

We can’t let great label art go unnoticed here at PorchDrinking. As you can see from the picture above, the art is of a basketball player dribbling between the legs. The attention to detail is eye-catching, surely helping it to stand out amongst others.

The design comes from the mind of Chris Smart, chief creative officer for Capsoul Brewing Collective. We appreciate great label art and applaud Chris for this beautiful design.
