Voodoo Brewing | Hydrogen Hop Water
As Sober October quickly approaches, hopheads are scrambling to find an alternative before the fall hiatus. We come to you with Voodoo Brewing’s Hydrogen Hop Water (HHW). Crafted with natural ingredients and zero alcohol, HHW makes a great alternative not only for those just wanting to take a break but also for those health-conscious consumers looking for a hoppy alternative for any occasion.
Voodoo Goes NA
It’s no secret that Voodoo have been leaders in the beer game for almost two decades now. But when you think of non-alcoholic options, they haven’t traditionally been the first to come to mind. With a rise in consumer markets interested in NA beverage alternatives, the Voodoo team joined the fun with Hydrogen Hop Water.
On July 24, they announced their new hydrogen-infused and freshly hopped carbonated water. Whether you’re a beer drinker or just someone in search of an IPA-like experience without the alcohol content, calories or carbohydrates, HHW covers all the bases.
Hydrogen Hop Water
The process for HHW begins with pure reverse osmosis filtered water. It is then infused with additional hydrogen, providing free molecular H2 that is readily accessible to the human body. Research has shown that hydrogen-infused water like this can boost athletic performance, deliver antioxidants and reduce inflammation associated with exercise.
The hop bill is made up of New Zealand Nelson Sauvin and Moteuka hops from Hop Revolution. This all-natural, gluten free beer alternative should be on the list of any NA enthusiast or Sober October participants!
The Review
A bit of a surprise on the pour, HHW has a hazy, muted yellow coloration. The seltzer-y carbonation builds up in a weak, thin head before settling into an active ring around the liquid.
The nose is bright and pale, with a slightly terpene-charged nose alongside notes of lime zest and a hint of underripe pineapple.
Upon first sip, a profile comparable to a Session IPA cascades onto the palate. A fair amount of dank bitterness surges to the forefront, followed closely by undertones of grapefruit, white wine and a touch of fresh herbs. On the back-end of the palate we get that lingering resiny bitterness, but when combined with that textured, seltzer-y carbonation, it’s got such a crushable approach.
The feel to this is like any carbonated water you’d find in the market. A bit of a “larger”, sharper carbonation versus soft and effervescent, but the hop character needs that mouthfeel to balance out the pithy aggression.
Healthy & Hoppy
It’s clear that HHW checks all the boxes for NA consumers. Each sip opens up even more layers; it’s not just another one of your run-of-the-mill, overly-bitter hop waters. While it wouldn’t take long to find something on the market that’s flavorful or hop-forward or non-alcoholic, you’ll be hard-pressed to find anything that is all three. Hydrogen Hop Water is that solution.
As always, follow your local Voodoo Brewing Co. pubs; they will announce availability at their respective location. Stay healthy, stay happy and grab some #goodvibes.
