The Mitten State isn’t just one of the most beautiful places in the United States; it’s also one of the “meccas” of the craft beer community. During Prohibition and the subsequent consolidation by the big beer companies, our dedication to this delectable liquid and state distribution laws helped protect our brewery trade when everyone else was closing. As a result, quality craft beer is a part of Michigan’s heritage, and it shows in the stunning amount of Michigan beer festivals hosted annually around the Great Lakes State.

Burning Foot isn’t a run-of-the-mill beer fest. Located in beautiful Muskegon on the shores of the mighty Lake Michigan, it’s a self-professed “celebration of art, music, and beers.” Over 100 craft breweries from several states show up to serve the thousands that attend every year since its beginning in 2015. Hosted by the Lakeshore Brewers Guild, this supplement of the Michigan Brewers Guild specifically wants to show off the work of breweries located near Lake Michigan.  If you love the beach and beer, you can’t miss this one.

The Michigan Brewers Guild is a very active in promoting and protecting our locally-owned breweries. As part of their initiatives, they host several events and beer festivals throughout the year, and one of the most popular in the Detroit Fall Beer Festival. Located in Michigan’s largest city and in Detroit’s historic Eastern Market, this mid-October beer festival is the highlight of a Michigander beer-drinker’s fall. 

Great Lakes Beer Festival | August 16, 2025

Hosted at Dow Diamond in Midland, the Great Lakes Beer Festival has grown much during its short 4 years of life. With live music, over 70 craft breweries represented, food trucks galore and plenty of games to play, it’s a great place to stop and enjoy what Mid-Michigan has to offer. The Great Lakes Beer Festival is put on in August by MI Brew Trail, a part of the Hearst media group.

Another Michigan Brewers Guild Event, the Winter Beer Festival is held annually in late February in Comstock Park, just north of Grand Rapids or Beer City, U.S.A. as it’s known in the beer world. For 19 years, this festival has been a beacon of light in the cold winter months. Though it’s held outside, there is plenty to keep you warm with delicious beer, live music, ice sculpting, fire pits and heaters scattered throughout the large event.

Frankenmuth is home to the state’s oldest brewery, and it’s also the site of one of the biggest state beer festivals. The World Expo of Beer, or WEB as it is called locally, is held annually on the 3rd weekend of May. The WEB is a fundraising event put on by the Frankenmuth Jaycees, a group of young professionals dedicated to service to community. At last count, the group has donated over one million dollars to local initiatives.
