First Look | Denver’s Full Frame Beer Opens Today in Former Jagged Mountain Space

Full Frame Beer

Full Frame Beer, which officially opens to the public today, Friday, February 28, 2025, may feel familiar to beer fans on the surface. However, to those with a discerning eye and palate, its subtleties should quickly come into focus.

Opening in the building that just three months prior was home to Jagged Mountain Brewery, Full Frame Beer is co-founded by industry rising standouts, Alyssa Hoberer, who coincidentally served as the former head brewer of Jagged Mountain, and Jacob Kemple, the former head brewer of Our Mutual Friend Brewing.

While it may feel a bit unorthodox having two accomplished lead brewers teaming up to helm a new brewery, Hoberer and Kemple, who both independently bring a distinctly diverse skillset outside of brewing, also bring stylistic specialties and interests that distinguish their roles in the new endeavor.

“Jacob has a bunch of experience brewing with different experimental hop varieties and producing hop-forward beers, while I gravitate more toward lighter, easier drinking styles,” explained Hoberer. “It’s been cool melding our two styles together and showcasing our true passions instead of just trying to fill a stylistic gap.”

Hoberer and Kemple first began exploring the idea of launching their own brewery over four years ago while they were still brewing with their previous employers. But the last year has operated on an unexpectedly accelerated timeline beginning with the launch of their WeFunder in May 2024, to initial plans of taking over the former Alpine Dog Brewing space on E. 17th Ave, which ultimately fell through, and finally the opportunity to take over the former Jagged Mountain space in December shortly after Hoberer’s former employer announced its closure.

“It all happened pretty quickly,” laughed Hoberer. “We weren’t even finished with our WeFunder paperwork to withdraw what we’ve raised when we signed the paperwork to take over the space on December 1. Since then, we’ve just been hard at work remodeling the space to make it our own.”

Located in the heart of Denver’s Ballpark District, just cutoff pass away from Coors Field, Full Frame Beer will aim to build on Jagged Mountain’s legacy of catering to Rockies fans on game days with gameday beer specials on their two flagship house beers, while also creating a more dedicated community of regulars by implementing several strategic changes.

Most notably, Full Frame’s interior now reflects a brighter, more welcoming space outfitted with communal tables, green foliage, eponymously inspired camera motifs, and street art-inspired installations wrapping around the bar’s base. Its beverage program also aims to serve up more diverse offerings in order to welcome a wider audience. In addition to a wider range of styles, which will often nod to classic styles but with a modern touch, Full Frame will also offer a full suite of non-alcoholic options, including guest hop waters until they’re able to launch their own hop water line. Hoberer and Kemple also intend to convert the brewery to a full brewpub license, which will allow the business to serve food while also adding full-strength cocktails to the menu. However, until that license conversion takes place, the two have found a creative solution by adding seltzer-based cocktails to the menu, which will be served over ice and hand-mixed in front of customers. For their opening, Full Frame will begin by offering a Margarita Seltzer Cocktail built with their dry seltzer base, a bright, tart, and not-too-sweet margarita mix, along with jalapenos stirred in. The Full Frame team also has plans to roll out a coffee concept in the coming months, managed by former Crema barista Eli Urani.

“We’re cognizant that downtown Denver had struggled in recent years, but the city is constantly changing,” said Kemple. “We wanted to create a place where people can feel at home, and offering a diverse array of beer and beverages is part of that equation.”

Because of their expedited opening timeline, Full Frame Beer will launch today with two in-house brewed beers: their Obscura Australian Pale Ale and House Light, a bright, refreshing house Lager. However, in a creative workaround, Hoberer and Kemple have also spent the last three months collaborating with a number of industry friends and will launch with five collaboration beers on-draft with the likes of a Double Hazy IPA with milieu fermentation, a Double Hazy IPA with Denver Beer Company, a dry-hopped Belgian with Woods Boss Brewing, a Rice Lager with Dos Los Portillos, and a Cold IPA with Public Offering Brewing.

“We always knew when we developed our business plan that collaborating with other breweries would be a core component of what we wanted to showcase,” said Hoberer. “We were able to have two beers for our launch, which is great, but having collabs is exciting as well because we were actually part of it. It still has our name, our stamp, our creativity.”

Full Frame Beer will initially operate from 3 pm to 10 pm Thursday through Sunday, but aims to quickly expand its hours after the initial launch.
