Ska Brewing Mexican Logger
June 3, 2013 | Cory PelcIt’s summer. I love big, gigantic barrel-aged beers as much as the next bloke but it’s time to put those beasts into hibernation. It’s time to drink refreshing brews made for summer. I know a few other folks that would vouch that Ska Brewing Mexican Logger may be THE go to brew for summer. Plus, there is a zapata-esque dude wielding a chainsaw on the can. EPIC!
Three Floyds Evil Power Imperial Pilsner
May 21, 2013 | Cory PelcThree Floyds Brewing – Evil Power Imperial Pilsner
ABV: 7.2%
IBU: 56
“I hear voices . . . “ resounds the first lyrics on the self-titled track, EVIL POWER, from Lair of the Minotaur’s fourth release. Lair of the Minotaur (LOTM as they shall be known henceforth) and Three Floyds Brewing collaborated for this bottle of fearsome, full-palated deliciousness. After popping the crown cap, I am also hearing voices. These voices are telling me to find more Three Floyds Evil Power Imperial Pilsner and to hoard it like there is no tomorrow.
River Runners Pale Ale
May 13, 2013 | Cory PelcEddyline Brewery and Restaurant – River Runners Pale Ale
ABV: 6%
IBU: 50
Eddyline Brewery and Restaurant’s River Runners Pale Ale is yet another example of the awesomesauce that can come out of both 16-ounce cans and the frequently neglected beer region of Southern Colorado. Read More
Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout
April 25, 2013 | Cory Pelc 1North Coast Brewing – Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout
ABV: 9%
IBU: 75
I consider this to be THE Russian Imperial Stout. The Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout brand image is a drawing of Rasputin, the infamous Mad Monk, with a phrase in Russian encircling it – A sincere friend is not born instantly. I beg to differ with this sentiment as I found a quick liquid ‘friend’ in this dark, dry stout from just a few gulps. I’m telling you, on these Colorado cold evenings, this brew can hypnotize you with its healing powers of warmth. Much like Rasputin and his mysteries of healing magic, many are unsure how this ale makes you feel different after just a few pulls, but it really does evoke a sense of liquid sorcery in every sip.
The Ultimate 6er – The Beers of Metal
April 17, 2013 | Cory PelcPlease stop! I know the sound of beer cans smashing against the human skull is an invigorating sonic sensation but, I must digress, I’m not talking about the kind of beers you drink straight-from-the-can in a dark alley before the AC/DC metal show. I’m talking about the brews that make the true metalhead feel like a Viking rowing a giant battleship into war!
Mikkeller Green Easter IPA
April 5, 2013 | Cory PelcABV: 7% | IBU: 100+
These Gypsy brewers are true ‘phantoms’ of the craft. For those unfamiliar with Mikkeller, these folks from across the pond in Denmark have made over 600 beers in a myriad of styles that are very aggressive and push the envelope of styles new and old. They venture the globe, partnering with others to craft sudsy treats for you and I. This time, with Mikkeller Green Easter IPA, they take on the West Coast IPA. And they do it better?!? Read More
Uinta Brewing Dubhe Imperial Black IPA
March 28, 2013 | Cory PelcABV: 9.2%
IBU: 109
SRM: 110 (apparently blacker than the blackest black times infinity)
It’s like riding a chocolate wave of star-dust through floral hop galaxies. Taking on the Uinta Brewing Dubhe Imperial Black IPA is a journey through the stars that is dry yet refreshing, malty yet hoppy, light yet bold. Shit is crazy, brah. The beer pours a rich, malty black with a rocky tan head. Is this a fucking stout? Is this a porter? What the shit is going on in my glass? I was expecting a big, hop-heavy aroma with the five hop varietals in this brew but it comes off as a malty, sweet beast. There is a floral ester coming in before the first sip and most of that must be the hemp seeds? That first quaff is creamy and thick, with chocolate malts and a slight bitter punch coming mid-palate to fight off any cloying, bitch-ass malts trying to hang out on the tongue. Malt goodnesses AND hops galore. Wicked. Read More
Three Floyd’s Brewing Dark Lord Days
March 6, 2013 | Cory PelcBy our nature, we covet. And how do we begin to covet, you may ask? Do we seek out things to covet? Sure, we love the unusual and the eclectic; we find beauty in rare things and seek out that one of a kind piece.
