Dancing Gnome | Black Clouds Double Vanilla
October 24, 2019 | Gregory AceroIt has been quite some time since my last article, but I figure I would come back and write about one of my absolute favorite breweries in Pittsburgh, Dancing Gnome. DG has been brewing, hazy deliciousness IPA/DIPA/TIPA, fruity goodness sour ales and delicious pale ales. But the one other beer style that has been talked about and that has craft beer patrons lining up early are their stouts, such as Black Clouds!
Ultimate 6er | Six New Standout Beers from Pittsburgh’s Craft Beer Scene
October 17, 2018 | Gregory AceroI am always excited to show you what I have drank from the Pittsburgh area – I say Pittsburgh area because there are some days that I do not acquire craft beer right in the city. There are few breweries that were in my previous article and a few new mentions, but these beers here span the last few months of my beer drinking conquest – so let’s quit this chit-chat and get right into it! Dancing Gnome | Lustra Day 2018
August 21, 2018 | Gregory AceroDancing Gnome has been making serious brews and waves in the craft beer scene. They have truly expanded their horizons from hazy IPAs and pale ales to stouts, sours and lagers. In less than two years, Dancing Gnome has: expanded their canning line, added more tanks, hired more staff to help assist in the brewery, collaborated with other breweries and individuals to brew some delicious beer and has become one of the most popular craft beer breweries on the western side of Pennsylvania.
When Dancing Gnome (DG) released their weekly newsletter on July 31 and mentioned Lustra Day, those two words spread quickly through the Pittsburgh craft beer scene. Knowing that Lustra Day would be a huge event for the brewery, I made plans to be in attendance. From that point on, my beer buddies and I planned our arrival times and the beers we would bring for the line share on the big day.
Narrow Gauge Brewing Company | King Fallen Flag
May 3, 2018 | Gregory AceroDon’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the breweries in western Pennsylvania — Dancing Gnome, Grist House, Voodoo Brewery and Brew Gentlemen, to name a few of my favorites. The craft beer served at those places, as is the rest of the craft beer served in the region, is absolutely delicious. However, every once in awhile you want to branch out and explore other breweries. That is where Narrow Gauge Brewing Company (St. Louis) comes into play, including its King Fallen Flag.
Ultimate 6er | Pittsburgh Craft Beer
March 1, 2018 | Gregory AceroThe Pittsburgh craft beer scene has been making serious waves, or I should say serious brews, in the craft beer industry. Pittsburgh breweries have been brewing an assortment of different beer, from pale ales to hazy IPAs and wild ales to delicious barrel aged stouts – Pittsburgh’s craft beer scene has truly grown and, as a result, is starting to receive national recognition.
I am currently pursuing fitness goals, so I have not enjoyed a beer since January 1, 2018. Trust me… I miss it dearly! This list will consist of the beers I have consumed in 2017 and by the time I write another Ultimate 6er, I hope to have tasted some new beer in 2018. Let’s dive right in and get this started!
Brew Gentlemen | Pure Powerplant
September 14, 2017 | Gregory AceroI worked the night shift for the last six years of my Medical Technology career, which included many negatives: living an opposite schedule from your family and friends, sleep is completely messed up and you constantly feel tired — and that’s just the start. However, my schedule also allowed me to visit craft breweries on release days and beat the crowds, which was the case with the release of Brew Gentlemen Pure Powerplant IPA.

Most people have seen the movie Toy Story and know the famous quote of Buzz Lightyear—”To infinity… and beyond!” I can’t help but think of this quote any time I drink Dancing Gnome Beer’s Infinite Highway. Even on the can you see a spaceship, so how can you not refer back to Toy Story?
Voodoo Brewery | Vivrant Thing
April 3, 2017 | Gregory AceroStyle: American Pale Ale | ABV: 7.1%
This past Saturday I took a drive to Voodoo Brewery in Homestead to pick up some fresh cans of Vivrant Thing. The first thing that popped into my head was that song “Vivrant Thing” by Q-tip from his album, Amplified. Some of you may remember this song or this is the first time you have heard of it, but seriously search it on iTunes and give it a listen; the song is as good as Voodoo’s beer.

Spoonwood Brewing Company | 2 Minutes To Midnight
February 10, 2017 | Gregory AceroABV: 10.3% | IBU: 61
This past weekend my wife and I were able to make a trip to meet a few friends at Spoonwood Brewing Company. I absolutely love this brewery because of the great atmosphere for everyone, especially families with children, the entertainment, the food and, of course, the beer! I arrived and quickly grabbed their draft list and instantly my eyes picked out the words “Imperial Stout”—along side those glorious words was 2 Minutes To Midnight. Along with being a huge IPA fan, I am also big on imperial stouts and Spoonwood’s Imperial Stout was an absolute hit that night!

Brew Gentlemen | DoubleMex
November 8, 2016 | Gregory AceroStyle: Barrel Aged Imperial Stout | ABV: 9.9%
Brew Gentlemen’s bottle release of DoubleMex took place on Saturday, September 17, 2016. This was my first ever bottle release that I have attended so I made sure I did my research on the event. I followed BG on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and even signed up for their newsletter (pssh stalk much?!) just so that I could stay current with the brewery.
Against the Grain Brewery | 35K
September 15, 2016 | Gregory AceroABV: 5.0% | IBU: 25.5
Another summer has come and gone. As we rapidly approach the fall season, you start to see pumpkin beers as the main focus within the craft beer industry. But for me, it’s all about the stout! I know that you can enjoy any beer during the year, no matter what season it is. However, when the weather gets cooler and the days get shorter, I personally just love drinking stout, such as Against the Grain 35K.

Ultimate 6er | New England IPA Series
April 13, 2016 | Gregory AceroEver since I started my craft beer journey, IPAs have been my absolute favorite style of beer to drink. In the past, anytime that I thought or drank IPAs all I thought about were West Coast IPA’s – Russian River Brewing Co., Stone Brewing, 21st Amendment Brewery, Firestone Walker Brewing Company, etc. But this past year I have learned that the West Coast IPAs have to make room for the East Coast IPAs. I’m talking about New England IPAs! Read More
