Georgia Beer Day | March 5, 2022

March 4, 2022 |

Beer deserves to be celebrated! That’s why this Saturday, March 5, 2022, beer lovers across the state will have the chance to raise a glass in honor of Georgia Beer Day as the Georgia Craft Brewers Guild hosts it’s second annual Beer Day. Over 70+ breweries from Acworth to Valdosta are participating in the event.

Breweries have the option to go full-on shindig or just have the commemorative glasses, by artist Ali Lamoureux, available for customers but either way $1 of the sale of the glass goes back to the Guild to help promote growth and support of the industry. The design is an homage to the beautiful landscapes throughout Georgia “from the Blue Ridge Mountains to Driftwood Beach” as an outdoor refuge is portrayed on the Becher pint glass. Last year, these limited (at each brewery) glasses went FAST, so make sure to get there early and support all day!

Beers For Gaming | Firewatch & Woodland Chill Cold IPA

February 4, 2022 |

Some games might draw you in with intense action, or a complex mechanic, whereas some games are simply there to tell a story and leave an impression. Firewatch, a 2016 game from Campo Santo, is a compelling adventure game that wonderfully mixes in mysterious interactions with incredible dialogue and perfectly scored music all set against a picturesque backdrop of the Wyoming Wilderness. 2021 Georgia Best in Beer Year-End Honors

January 13, 2022 |

Even though 2021 seemed to pass by at an outrageous pace—two years of a pandemic will do that—there were several memorable beers, new breweries and stories that came out of Georgia. 2021 saw Lagers catch a ton of love across the state, finally. There were still plenty of other styles and releases that garnered tons of trades and attention, but shoutout to Lagers for stealing the spotlight. Seltzers, distilleries and everything in between are starting to populate and associate with craft breweries from Atlanta to LaGrange and north to south. Read More

Fantasy Football Recap | Week 12

December 3, 2021 |

Week 12 of the NFL season was once again highlighted by several huge performances from running backs across the league. Leonard Fournette won the day by carrying the ball 17 times for 100 yards while adding 31 yards through the air on seven catches. Oh, and he had a cool four TDs on top of the yardage for a 40+ point week. The Atlanta Falcons do-it-all back Cordarrelle Patterson rushed 16 times for 108 and a pair of scores. Dontrell Hilliard for the Derrick Henry-less Titans had 131 on only a dozen carries with a score, too. Mixon, Taylor (again) and Elijah Mitchell all had days that probably led your team to a W, or to an L if they lined up against you. Either way, that’s how it goes sometimes. Read More

Fantasy Football Recap | Week 10

November 20, 2021 |

Week 10 of the NFL season was a wild ride, to say the least. The craziness started with the Thursday night upset of the Baltimore Ravens losing to the Miami Dolphins by double-digits. Sunday games kept the momentum going when Cam Newton made his Carolina return and secured a 34-10 win over the Arizona Cardinals. The winless Lions tied the Pittsburgh Steelers -somehow- and the Green Bay Packers held Russell Wilson scoreless for the first time in his NFL career. Fantasy matchups stayed as wacky, as some stars burned out and others never even showed up. Read More

Fantasy Football Recap | Week 7

October 29, 2021 |

We joined the first bunch of byes in Week 6, and we came back to more than a handful of teams resting up in Week 7. Many of those teams had fantasy rockstars in lineups across the globe, so players were left scrambling on how to replace them for the week. Usual studs like Dalvin Cook, Josh Allen and rookie-sensation Najee Harris all were among players inactive last week. Jacksonville and the LA Chargers took a break, too. Try to replace players for a week or simply stack the deck and take a week essentially off while not having to worry about others? That’s the gamble. Now, let’s see if it paid off.

Arches Brewing | Black Gold Schwarzbier

October 21, 2021 |

Isn’t this the absolute best time of the year? Trees are starting to lose leaves and become shaded in every color. Football, the ever-approaching holidays and cool breezes are ahead in the next few weeks. Now is the chance to enjoy it all.

But, the best part of autumn is easily the beer releases. Yes, there will be an abundance of pantry-ravished Pastry Stouts, and for good reason. However, those are not the only beers to hoard or enjoy this time of year.

Fantasy Football Recap | Week 5

October 15, 2021 |

Quarterbacks are often thought to be the most important position on the field in the NFL. Look at draft classes, MVP Awards and contracts. Love it or hate it, that’s typically how “real football” works. Fantasy Football usually plays by those rules but not always. In Week 5 of the 2021 NFL season, though, it was a Quarterback’s world. Justin Herbert, Josh Allen (with a hurdle) and Lamar Jackson absolutely painted the sky with fireworks throughout the weekend and into Monday Night Football. There were some outliers like Mark Andrews, Austin Ekeler and Johnathan Taylor, sure, but the majority of the weekend what the hell’s are due to stellar quarterback play. Anyway, they get enough praise as is. Let’s get to it.

Fantasy Football Recap | Week 4

October 9, 2021 |

We’re back! Week 4 of the NFL season is in the books, but oh wow was there some drama that came along with it. Thursday Night Football showed the world that Joe Burrow really is That Dude for the Bengals as he led a game-winning drive to send the Jaguars to 0-4. Sunday featured some late game antics in several matchups. The Atlanta Falcons did what they do best in blowing leads, while Saquon Barkley looked like himself before the injury against Kamara and the New Orleans Saints. Mahomes casually threw 5 TDs, and Kyler Murray and the Cardinals almost doubled up the Los Angeles Rams. Of course, there was a homecoming, too, as Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Bucs marched into Foxborough and got a W against Belichick. Read More

PorchDrinking Fantasy Football Recap | Week 3

October 1, 2021 |

Week 3 felt like it was one of the more “expected” weeks of the season. You never really know what’s going to happen in Fantasy Football, but for the most part, a lot of stars with tough matchups were kept in check, looking at you Scary Terry and, well, all of the Chicago Bears. A few fantasy managers kept their dream of perfection alive, while others, (a.k.a. me) are still searching for a W on the year. Them’s the breaks, I guess. Oh, and one more thing before we move on. Justin. Tucker. How in the hell did he do that?! An NFL Record 66-Yard Game-Winning Field Goal. Seriously. WHAT? Read More

PorchDrinking Fantasy Football Recap | Week 2

September 24, 2021 |

Week 2 of the NFL season brought us a myriad of entertaining games, comebacks and unfortunate losses. Looking at you, my poor, poor pitiful Falcons. What the hell was that? Seriously. A lot of the expected stars shined bright while others have yet to show up. Josh Allen and the Bills lit up the scoreboard while underwhelming the fantasy score sheet. Sunday Night Football featured the Kansas City Chiefs visiting Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens and was one of the best football games, at any level, in recent memory. Whether you’re celebrating a W or staring at another L, just know we’re here with you. Grab a beer and see how our matchups went down this week.

Rightside Brewing | Citrus Wheat & American IPA

September 15, 2021 |

The world of craft beverages seems to expand every day as more and more producers pump out products ranging from pre-mixed cocktails to Seltzers.

There is likely one area of the industry, though, that you have probably skimmed over when it comes to shopping coolers or shelves at your local bottle shop. No, don’t think about the newest candy-inspired Sour Ale or adjunct-loaded Barrel-Aged Stout. You should be thinking about your next non-alcoholic beer purchase. Read More

What We’re Drinking | August 6, 2021

August 6, 2021 |

There’s been a very hectic aura in the air around here lately, and it’s likely due to a combination of school starting back, work being busy and the Delta variant of Covid-19 rising in cases. It feels like we somehow back tracked, but maybe we’re on the up-and-up. Maybe that’s a glass half-full perspective. Either way, you did it, it’s Friday and we made it. Cheers to that. Here is What We’re Drinking.

Ultimate 6er | Six Beers for Your Role in League of Legends

August 4, 2021 |

League of Legends, by Riot Games, is a game that likely needs little introduction. It’s taken the globe by storm and become one of the most popular Esports in the world over the last decade. If you don’t know, consider yourself lucky for the time suck and renown toxicity of the community that you’ve saved yourself from. If that last sentence struck a chord with you, then greetings, Summoner.

The basic premise is that the game is free to download and play, and is updated biweekly with patches. There’s a large and active community, and queue times are relatively short. Each game has a level of familiarity although every game plays differently due to the variety of characters and player (enemy and teammate) habits. Read More

What We’re Drinking | July 23, 2021

July 23, 2021 |

Holy hell. It’s really about to be August. We have one week of “summer” left, even though I personally feel like that shortens every year. We’re over halfway through the calendar and baseball season, too. School is upon us and fall sports are about to be king. It won’t take long, but the holidays are not too far off, and this year, we should be able to celebrate even more compared to last. I hope you’ve got a little time to slow down and take it easy, but if you’re still busy looking for a new beer to try, here is What We’re Drinking.  Read More

Elsewhere Brewing | Landscape Lager Organic Keller Pils

July 21, 2021 |

Elsewhere Brewing, in Atlanta, Georgia, is undoubtedly one of the best places in town to grab a beer or meal. Travel and adventure are two things close to the heart of owners Sara and Sam Kazmer. This influence of travel is evident in the taplist and kitchen menu. The ambiance invokes the sense of wonder and journey as cacti and greenery sprawl throughout the space.

There’s room at the table for everyone, and a beer for them, too. European-style Pilsners to Fruit Sours, IPAs to Pastry Stouts all have a place on the rotating taplist. The beer getting all of the attention in this showcase, though, is their Landscape Lager Organic Keller Pils. Read More
