The Weekly Buzz | January 26 – February 1
February 2, 2018 | Dan BortzFoxboro, Mass. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy, and the New England Patriots are no exception to this. Our heroes, the Philadelphia Eagles, are about to meet these cheaters on the gridiron and bring the Lombardi Trophy home to the City of Brotherly Love. I know you’re all rooting for the right team. You’re impatient for the game to start. So, why not read a bunch of tweets about beer? This is The Weekly Buzz.
From Wentz we came. In Foles we trust.

Lord Hobo Brewing Co. | Hobo Life
February 1, 2018 | Dan BortzIt was New Year’s Eve and I was battling a slew of last-minute beer shoppers. The aisles were packed and I was beginning to have some mild anxiety. I sure love beer, but I hate nothing more than big crowds of people. After battling through the coolers to build a mixed six-pack, I was ready to be gone. I grabbed a 6er of the first session IPA that I saw and got into the long, serpentine line to check out. It turned out that the session IPA in my basket was Lord Hobo‘s Hobo Life.

The Weekly Buzz | January 19 – 25
January 26, 2018 | Dan BortzIt’s high time that we discuss something very important. That thing is the NFC Conference Championship. The result was exactly as I thought it would be — a thorough shellacking of the Minnesota Viking by a vastly superior football team. Nick Foles led the Eagles to victory and will do so again in the Super Bowl. Philly loves to be the underdog, so keep underestimating them, Tom Brady! Oh… and I found some beer things on Twitter, too. This is the Weekly Buzz.
E-A-G-L-E-S, EAGLES!

Yards & Harpoon Place a Wager on the Super Bowl
January 26, 2018 | Dan BortzSuper Bowl LII is barreling toward Minneapolis. The Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots are going to clash in a David and Goliath showdown, which will hopefully be a game for the ages. As a lifelong Eagles fan, I hope the Birds give the Patriots the thrashing of their lives. As if the game wasn’t going to be fun enough already, breweries in the teams’ hometowns are placing a little bet on the big game. Just as you would expect, it all started on Twitter.

What We’re Drinking | January 19, 2017
January 19, 2018 | Dan BortzAs it turns out, Dry January can even affect a beer blog! We didn’t have a ton of submissions from the PorchDrinking team this week, but they are all good ones. Quantity isn’t always the most important thing, people. It’s going to be mighty cold out there on that porch swing, but these beers are all worth it. This is What We’re Drinking.

January 19, 2018 | Dan BortzI just realized today that I’ve gone to the gym 11 days in a row and plan on going twice tomorrow. What kind of human being does that to themselves? I could be drinking beer, but instead I’ll be sweating my butt off. I guess if I burn more calories I can drink more beer. Searching Twitter and Instagram for beer-related content is definitely the thirstiest of work. Enjoy the fruits of my labor in this week’s edition of The Weekly Buzz!

PorchDrinking Playlist | Kicking & Screaming
January 16, 2018 | Dan BortzI though this was going to be an embarrassing deep dive into music that I used to love. My mind was fully prepared to accept that my early 20s was a weird time in my life. I mean, after all, building a Spotify playlist full of emo-ish songs should be embarrassing by itself, let alone admitting to myself that I used to love a lot of this music. I’m going to share a secret with you. It turns out that I STILL like a lot of this music. Most of it hasn’t entered my ears in ten years or more, but, for the next few weeks, you’ll have to pull me away from this playlist kicking and screaming.

January 12, 2018 | Dan BortzThis week was rough. The frigid weather broke in Pennsylvania and brought 40-degree weather to Pennsylvania. The reprieve, however, revealed a frozen, burst hot water pipe, which became a massive leak as it thawed. I mostly tell you this because I want your pity. feed on it. Also, I don’t want you to notice that The Weekly Buzz is embarrassingly light this week. Shit happens. We’ll all move past it and do better next week.

The Weekly Buzz | December 29 – January 4
January 5, 2018 | Dan BortzWell, it’s officially 2018. I don’t feel much different than I did last year. I already go to the gym on a regular basis, so I don’t have a pesky weight loss resolution to deal with (although I do have plenty left to lose). The world is still a terrifying hellscape, and we’re all used to that by now. We still have craft beer, so that’s a mark in the “Win” column. Craft beer also loves creating internet nonsense for us all to read, and we’ve collected some fun ones this week. Welcome to The Weekly Buzz!

December 29, 2017 | Dan BortzNow this is a story all about how my life got flipped, turned upside down. It’s a tale about how I was so overwhelmed with Christmas spirit that I hardly checked Twitter all week. Instagram also went largely unviewed. The following is a list of Tweets and Instagram posts that I managed to spot while zoning out during various family gatherings. We’ve all done it. This is The Weekly Buzz.
We hope you had the happiest of holidays and wish you luck in the new year!

December 22, 2017 | Dan BortzThis edition of The Weekly Buzz is physically difficult to write, After my workout today, I can barely lift my fingers to type. With my muscles chack-a-block with lactic acid, it’s going to take every ounce of my remaining strength to crack open a few beers tonight, but I will persevere because I am a champion. When the going gets tough, I dig deep and say, “Nothing will stop me from drinking this beer or writing The Weekly Buzz.”
Anyway… Here’s some stuff I found on Instagram and Twitter.

Tröegs Independent Brewing | Wild Elf
December 20, 2017 | Dan BortzTröegs Mad Elf is a legendary beer during the holiday season, especially in Pennsylvania. However, I convinced myself very early on that I wouldn’t like it. Don’t ask me why. I don’t even know. Mad Elf has since spawned a whole line of variants, and it was this year’s special Mad Elf Grand Cru that finally got me to pull the trigger and give these brews a try. A week later, a bottle of Tröegs Wild Elf fell into my lap and really impressed me.

Along their way, they encountered many struggles: day jobs, family obligations and whalez that could simply not be caught. We, however, are not here to lament in their failures but to celebrate their victories. Raise your glasses to those PorchDrinkers who came before you and behold What We’re Drinking.

The Weekly Buzz | November 24 – 30
December 1, 2017 | Dan BortzSo, which of you maniacs woke up ungodly early to hunt for Black Friday beer releases or discount video game consoles? I did neither. I went to my job and nursed my Thanksgiving hangover like a responsible grown up. With every passing minute, I grew more and more enraged by BCBS posts. First of all, I don’t really care what beer you bought, and, secondly, it’s just really fancy Budweiser. There’s no need to flood every beer forum with pictures of your “haul”. Anyway… Other things happened this week, too. Here they are in an all-new edition of The Weekly Buzz.

PorchDrinking Playlist | Everything Sucks
November 27, 2017 | Dan BortzRecently, I’ve been revisiting a lot of the questionable music that I enjoyed as a teenager. I was in the eighth grade during the “Year of Ska”. Anybody remember that? There were 12 glorious months, during which THREE separate ska singles saw regular radio airtime. Reel Big Fish and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones became household names – or were at least referred to as “those bands with the trumpets.” Everyone remembers the song “Sell Out”, but “Everything Sucks” was the one that always resonated with me.
