PorchDrinking Playlist | New-Age Music
April 22, 2014 | Ellie ThompsonEach decade is known for its musical genres and proliferative sub genres (we distinguish the 60’s from the 70’s, the 80’s from the 90’s, but also the mid 80’s from the early 90’s). Many of the artists from the past few years have recycled “oldie” sounds from decades past (1980’s, 1990’s, and even 2000’s), blending the 80’s and 90’s poppy dance vibes with newer styles. For instance, releases from Chromeo, Cut Copy or Holy Ghost! have catchy elements that pay homage to the 1980’s, while incorporating rap, dance and electronic themes. This week you’ll find some of this new-age music that, though recent, may sound familiar thanks to regeneration and the appreciation of pieces of music’s history.

Porch Drinking Playlist | Spring Bands on Tour
April 15, 2014 | Ellie ThompsonFinally, after a long few months of winter, the commencement of concert season is upon us. While recent weekend music festivals like SxSW and Coachella have elevated our expectations for all-inclusive lineups, let us not forget that many artists can be heard in a more intimate setting. This week’s playlist is dedicated to bands on tour throughout Spring 2014 that you should most certainly not miss. Read More
PorchDrinking Playlist | April Showers
April 8, 2014 | Ellie ThompsonThis week’s playlist is inspired by the relentless rain that annually plagues the country during this month. Fortunately, these showers will ultimately bring blooms well worth the torrential downpours, yet … Read More
PorchDrinking Playlist | March Mix
March 25, 2014 | Ellie ThompsonThe phrase “March Madness” doesn’t just describe the culmination of NCAA basketball season. Rather, it is a phrase that most accurately depicts the typical state of life in this particular month. March means flux, instability, madness. Whether it’s the quickly dissolving weeks of the year (and consequently the realization it’s been 2014 for two months now), or desperate need for a spring break, it seems March is a time for increased deadlines, assignments, etc. Yet we’re traveling at full speed, and it’s quite the challenge to slow down. These songs by nature reflect that flux. It’s a hodgepodge of some of my favorite covers, remixes and new hits. I hope you enjoy!

PorchDrinking Playlist | February Funk Playlist
February 18, 2014 | Ellie ThompsonThese past few months, I’ve been curiously enamored with the funk genre. I’m not quite sure what sparked this love-affair, yet I speculate it has something to do with my recent stay at a place called the “Mojo Inn” (a charming, modern hostel with a brilliant Motown-inspired lobby playlist), or perhaps seeing & hearing a good friend and his 9-piece funk band play live shows (s/o http://www.grampsthevamp.com).
PorchDrinking Playlist | Valentine’s Week Playlist
February 12, 2014 | Ellie ThompsonWith Valentine’s Day around the corner, we have most likely been bombarded—(un)willingly—with daily reminders of Friday’s forecast (red roses, pink hearts, chocolate, all (or none) of the above, etc.).
But … Read More
