Roundtable: Your Personality in a Beer Bottle
January 22, 2014 | Kathleen MortonYou are what you eat … but what about what you drink? Are you spicy, aggressive or strong? Are you sweet and citrusy? Are you bitter and sour? Maybe you have a few characteristics that overlap. We’ve asked the staff to pick what their beer personality would be if it was bottled up.
Roundtable Discussion: Beers that are no longer brewed
December 18, 2013 | Kathleen Morton“We are sorry for your loss.” That loss being beer that is no longer on the market or being produced. Chances are our parents and grandparents know that loss better than we do, but some of us know what it’s like to love certain beers and then lose them. Here is a list of some that we miss.
Roundtable Discussion | Favorite Beer Labels
November 6, 2013 | Kathleen Morton 1Even though we all know the expression, “don’t judge a book by its cover,” we all do it sometimes. The same goes with beer. This week we asked the staff what their favorite beer labels are.
Roundtable Discussion: Working for the Best Breweries
September 25, 2013 | Kathleen MortonA lot of us dream of the opportunity to work with the masters at some of our favorite breweries. This week, we are asking the staff, if you could work for any brewery, which would it be and why?
Roundtable Discussion: 2014 Super Bowl Contenders
August 14, 2013 | Kathleen MortonRoundtable Discussion: End of Summer Bucket List
July 10, 2013 | Kathleen MortonNo one wants to admit that summer is ending soon. Unfortunately, it will be over in a blink of an eye. Let’s make sure we take advantage of all the summer nights and weekends we have left. What is one thing you want to do before the summer ends?
Great River Brewery – Dirty Blonde
June 10, 2013 | Kathleen MortonI went to the Burning Can Festival (not to be confused with Burning Man) in Lyons, Colorado last weekend. For those who aren’t familiar, this is a full-day event with a 5K run in the morning so you don’t feel guilty about developing a large beer belly by nighttime. The rest of the day is spent … you guessed it … consuming beer. The festival features beer tasters from more than 30 breweries all across the US.
Roundtable Discussion: 6er for a First Date
June 5, 2013 | Kathleen MortonIt’s summertime, and with summertime comes summer lovin’. There’s nothing like opening a nice, cold six-pack on a hot summer day. Let’s say you’re in charge of buying a six-pack for a first date. What would you bring to impress the girl/guy?
Odell Brewing – Tree Shaker Imperial Peach IPA
April 16, 2013 | Kathleen MortonOn a Saturday in Fort Collins, a few of us PorchDrinkers brewery hopped, visiting New Belgium, Funkwerks and Odell. Lucky for us, a new beer debuted that day (April 6) at Odell Brewing, so it was a chance for all of us to try something new. The Tree Shaker Imperial Peach IPA is just as delicious as it promises to be.
Oskar Blues Brewery – Ten Fidy Imperial Stout
February 25, 2013 | Kathleen Morton 1A spontaneous road trip from Denver to Estes Park may turn into a random brewery trip if you’re lucky. More than 15 breweries sit between the two and it’s always a good idea to take advantage of that. On Saturday, I stopped at Oskar Blues Brewery in Longmont. The colder weather out here in Colorado has opened up a lot of stout options over the last month. Hearing that Oskar Blue’s had one called Ten Fidy Imperial Stout left me intrigued. Read More
Black Shirt Brewing Co., Denver, CO
December 27, 2012 | Kathleen MortonCan you name another brewery that specializes only in red ales? I can’t. Black Shirt Brewing Co. is doing what you wouldn’t expect, focusing solely on creating red ales for the reason that they want to do one thing and do it right.
Backcountry Brewery – Frisco, CO
October 29, 2012 | Kathleen MortonI stumbled across Backcountry Brewery when I was at Great American Beer Festival (GABF) a few weeks back. Their range of annual and seasonal beers combined has won six gold, silver and bronze medals at GABF from 1998-2011. But, what really put Backcountry on the map? In 2011, they submitted six beers for competition at the Colorado State Fair and all six received medals. Pretty impressive, if you ask me.
The 1996-year-old brewery and restaurant is located in Summit County on Main Street. If you’re like me and on your way to a ski resort out west, you are easily passing this place without knowing it.
