About- Tristan Chan

Tristan Chan

Tristan Chan

Tristan is a craft beer fanatic who originally hails from Kentucky, which used to be a veritable wasteland for craft beer. Since moving to Colorado, he discovered a passion for hops, malts, brett strains, tinctures, nitros, and all things craft brew. He created this blog as a means for his friends across the country to a virtual porch drink and he hopes that you’ll join the revolution.

Terrapin Brewing – Hop Karma Brown IPA

March 22, 2013 |

I generally follow the edict that beer should not be snobby. Drink it out of the bottle, hell bust out a solo cup if you must, but Terrapin’s Hop Karma Brown IPA is meant to breathe. It isn’t often you come across a Brown IPA.  Generally the nutty malty flavors are a bit hard to manage with the bitter hoppy flavors, but Terrapin Brewing’s Hop Karma Brown IPA balances those tastes perfectly.

Colorado Craft Beer Week

March 19, 2013 |

I revel every day at how lucky I am to live in this amazing state that we call Colorado. Much like the incubator that my home state of Kentucky is for fervent basketball fans, Colorado is the perfect climate for craft beer, and nothing fully captures brewing fertility quite like Colorado Craft Beer Week.

March 6, 2013 |

Daylight savings time begins this Sunday, March 10, meaning that we’ll soon be getting an extra hour of daylight. This bizarre bi-yearly occurrence of time manipulation led our scifi obsessed minds to spin wildly out of control.  We asked our staff what they would do if they had the power to control time.  Post your responses on what you would do with time control powers below in the comments section!

Green Beer Day | Miami University

March 6, 2013 | 4

Every year on Miami University’s campus thousands of students voluntarily climb out of their slumber at approximately 4 or 5 a.m. for a pilgrimage up High Street. Their mecca lies Uptown where at 5:30 a.m. on the Thursday before spring break, every bar opens inordinately early to pour an Olympic pool’s amount of green colored beer. Today, March 16, is that day. A national holiday dubbed Green Beer Day (GBD).

PorchDrinking Playlist- Whistling Songs

February 26, 2013 |

I’m the annoying guy who actually whistles while he works.  It’s only exacerbated by songs that actually incorporate actual whistling.  But you know sometimes when you’re sitting on the dock of the bay, it just feels so right.  This week I decided to compile a list of songs that showcase whistling, and I got a little help from my friends Josh Evans and Josh Kan.

PorchDrinking Playlist: Best Movie Soundtracks

February 19, 2013 |

Sometimes the best movie soundtracks can help enhance the cinematic experience, and sometimes it can define it. In honor of this Sunday’s Academy Awards, we compiled a list of iconic movie soundtracks that had a profound impact on the films they were featured in. And while it may seem from the start to be a John Williams love fest, the man is a savant when it comes to composing cinematic scores. As always if we left any out, we’d love for you to share them in the comments section of the post!

Beercade: Beer Dispensing Arcade Game

February 19, 2013 | 2

Yeah you read that right… it’s a beer dispensing arcade game.  Just when you thought the only people who played video games were World of Warcraft addicts who drank Bawls Sodas and wore adult diapers, McKinney ad agency created something that having you dusting off your joystick and adding gigs to your hard drive.

The Grammys Recap

February 11, 2013 |

Last night’s Grammys was amazing.  In what was a brilliant mix of part old school comebacks, part indie folk taking center stage, and part Katy Perry’s boobs, we saw awesome performances from Justin Timberlake, Kelly Clarkson, The Black Keys, Mumford and Sons, and Frank Ocean. It was really awesome to see recognition for truly talented artists like the Alabama Shakes, Frank Ocean  and the Lumineers and less focus on your traditional pop performers. Here’s your Grammy’s recap quick hits.

You’ll also know that Country Boy Brewing is the perfect case study of accomplishing just that.  Today we wish Country Boy Brewing a very happy first anniversary.  While they typically feature several guest beers to accompany a healthy lineup of their own, this weekend to celebrate their first birthday, all 24 taps will feature Country Boy brews including Black Gold Porter aged in Buffalo Trace bourbon barrels.

Happy Chinese New Year

February 6, 2013 | 4

This Sunday is Chinese New Year, why is that relevant… well I’m Chinese and so is a majority of the world’s population. In honor of the upcoming year of the snake I thought I’d give you a little (not so little) introduction to Chinese food in America. I must start out by saying that this entry is entirely about food, more specifically Chinese food.  So if for some bizarre reason you have an unfathomable aversion to eating, you should sit this one out, or put on eyemuffs for the next few paragraphs.
