PorchDrinking Playlist: St. Patrick’s Day Playlist
March 12, 2013 | Tristan ChanIt’s time to celebrate lucky charms, shamrocks and that other Green Beer Day, yes, this Sunday is St. Patrick’s Day. And in honor of the Irish day of debauchery we put together a St. Patrick’s Day playlist replete with traditional Irish jigs, Boondock-y goodness, and the color green. Enjoy!
Roundtable Discussion – Daylight Savings Time Travel
March 6, 2013 | Tristan ChanDaylight savings time begins this Sunday, March 10, meaning that we’ll soon be getting an extra hour of daylight. This bizarre bi-yearly occurrence of time manipulation led our scifi obsessed minds to spin wildly out of control. We asked our staff what they would do if they had the power to control time. Post your responses on what you would do with time control powers below in the comments section!
Green Beer Day | Miami University
March 6, 2013 | Tristan Chan 4Every year on Miami University’s campus thousands of students voluntarily climb out of their slumber at approximately 4 or 5 a.m. for a pilgrimage up High Street. Their mecca lies Uptown where at 5:30 a.m. on the Thursday before spring break, every bar opens inordinately early to pour an Olympic pool’s amount of green colored beer. Today, March 16, is that day. A national holiday dubbed Green Beer Day (GBD).
New Kids on the Block 80’s Party

Roundtable Discussion: Spring Forward
February 27, 2013 | Tristan Chan 1Believe it or not, and judging by the fact that half the country is covered in about a foot of snow I’m guessing not, spring is almost near. In fact Daylight Saving Spring Forward is just a little over a week away. So we asked our staff what they were looking forward to most about spring! Tell us what you’re looking forward to most about spring in the comments section below
PorchDrinking Playlist- Whistling Songs
February 26, 2013 | Tristan ChanI’m the annoying guy who actually whistles while he works. It’s only exacerbated by songs that actually incorporate actual whistling. But you know sometimes when you’re sitting on the dock of the bay, it just feels so right. This week I decided to compile a list of songs that showcase whistling, and I got a little help from my friends Josh Evans and Josh Kan.

PorchDrinking Playlist: Best Movie Soundtracks
February 19, 2013 | Tristan ChanSometimes the best movie soundtracks can help enhance the cinematic experience, and sometimes it can define it. In honor of this Sunday’s Academy Awards, we compiled a list of iconic movie soundtracks that had a profound impact on the films they were featured in. And while it may seem from the start to be a John Williams love fest, the man is a savant when it comes to composing cinematic scores. As always if we left any out, we’d love for you to share them in the comments section of the post!
Beercade: Beer Dispensing Arcade Game
February 19, 2013 | Tristan Chan 2Yeah you read that right… it’s a beer dispensing arcade game. Just when you thought the only people who played video games were World of Warcraft addicts who drank Bawls Sodas and wore adult diapers, McKinney ad agency created something that having you dusting off your joystick and adding gigs to your hard drive.
Roundtable Discussion: What are you giving up for Lent?
February 13, 2013 | Tristan ChanThe Lenten holiday is upon us so we thought we’d find out just “what are you giving up for lent?”. As we found out yesterday, Nate will be giving up all other beverages besides water, so we asked our staff, what would be the absolute worst thing to have to give up for 40 days. Share your responses in the comments section below!
The Grammys Recap
February 11, 2013 | Tristan ChanLast night’s Grammys was amazing. In what was a brilliant mix of part old school comebacks, part indie folk taking center stage, and part Katy Perry’s boobs, we saw awesome performances from Justin Timberlake, Kelly Clarkson, The Black Keys, Mumford and Sons, and Frank Ocean. It was really awesome to see recognition for truly talented artists like the Alabama Shakes, Frank Ocean and the Lumineers and less focus on your traditional pop performers. Here’s your Grammy’s recap quick hits.

Country Boy Brewing Anniversary Celebration
February 8, 2013 | Tristan ChanIf you’ve been followers of PorchDrinking you’ll know that we’re the biggest advocates for innovative upstart breweries who love to push the boundary on what can be accomplished with craft beer. You’ll also know that Country Boy Brewing is the perfect case study of accomplishing just that. Today we wish Country Boy Brewing a very happy first anniversary. While they typically feature several guest beers to accompany a healthy lineup of their own, this weekend to celebrate their first birthday, all 24 taps will feature Country Boy brews including Black Gold Porter aged in Buffalo Trace bourbon barrels.
Happy Chinese New Year
February 6, 2013 | Tristan Chan 4This Sunday is Chinese New Year, why is that relevant… well I’m Chinese and so is a majority of the world’s population. In honor of the upcoming year of the snake I thought I’d give you a little (not so little) introduction to Chinese food in America. I must start out by saying that this entry is entirely about food, more specifically Chinese food. So if for some bizarre reason you have an unfathomable aversion to eating, you should sit this one out, or put on eyemuffs for the next few paragraphs.
Wild Woods Brewery’s Berry Patch Wheat
February 6, 2013 | Tristan ChanWild Woods Brewery’s Berry Patch Wheat is exactly what I’ve been looking for. You see it’s a gateway beer. It’s the perfect beer to convert any tepid beer novice. Whenever I hear people casually sputter out the phrase “I don’t like beer” it feels like a mini heart attack turned mega aneurism. It’s like saying I don’t like cheese, or ice cream or America.
Fate Brewing Company
February 5, 2013 | Tristan ChanFate Brewing Company– Boulder, CO
Have you ever had a situation where the stars just seemed to align? Perhaps it was an “epic night”. In my circle of friends, when just the right group of people gather for a momentous night out we call it the “dream team”. Sometimes amidst the cacophony and discord, things just end up coming together to hit just the right sonorous wavelength to create the perfect harmony. This is Fate Brewing Company.

Enjoy tonight’s game, go (insert team you’re rooting for), have an awesome Sunday Funday and be safe out there.
Beginners Guide to Watching the Super Bowl
February 1, 2013 | Tristan ChanLets face it, not everyone is an avid football fan. Heck even the most diehard football fanatics may not be fully into this game, and for good reason. For some, the Super Bowl can be considered a religious experience, and for most it’s an excuse for a Sunday Funday with mildy entertaining commercial breaks. But no matter what, you dont want to be that “guy” who ruins the party. I’ve comprised a list of do’s and don’ts to make sure you aren’t the odd one out while watching the Super Bowl.
Mountain Sun Brewing’s Stout Month
January 30, 2013 | Tristan Chan 2Mountain Sun Brewing’s Stout Month is coming. And as the immortal Samuel L. Jackson once said, “Hold on to your butts.” Every year, amidst the cold bitter winter months shines a beacon of hope and happiness. This year marks the 20th anniversary of Stout Month for the Mountain Sun family and it promises to be bigger, bolder and more stout than ever (see what I did there?)
