The Faces of Stone’s Punishment
November 26, 2013 | Will Dozier 5Last week a group of PorchDrinking.com writers and friends got together to taste Stone Brewing’s Punishment. If you have not heard about this hellish creation, Stone’s Punishment is 2013 Double Bastard Ale brewed with freshly harvested peppers and aged in bourbon barrels. This has created one of the hottest beers that will ever grace your tongue. If you don’t believe us read Cory’s review here. We decided it would be fun to put our taste buds through the Punishment. Along the way we documented “The Faces of Stone’s Punishment.” Thank you to Billy of BillyBrew for joining us in this fiery ride and a big thank you to Corkscrews Wine Storage of Denver for hosting our tasting.
Corkscrews is the perfect location not just for wine storage but also to age those special beers you’re wanting to hold on to for a while.

Stone Brewing Punishment is the 2013 Double Bastard Ale brewed with freshly harvested peppers and aged in bourbon barrels. So, when you add those spicy chilies to a big beer what do you get? The result is a chili beer with a tremendous depth of flavor, as well as a legitimate heat.
Getting A Woody | Stone Brewing Crime
November 26, 2013 | Will Dozier 2Background
Stone Brewing Crime
Style: Bourbon Barrel Aged Strong Ale with Chiles
ABV:9.6%
In November, I always look forward to when Stone releases their Double Bastard Ale. This has been one I always seek out. This year they have taken it to the next level. Stone has released three different versions that have been barrel aged. First, and tamest of the trio, Southern Charred which is their Double Bastard aged in various Bourbon Barrels. The next two really take the heat up. Bringing the fire, Stone’s Crime and Punishment are aged on an insane amount of peppers. This has created one crazy set-your-mouth-on-fire experience. So join me for the hottest Woody around, as I torch my taste buds with Stone Brewing Crime. Bring on the Pain!!
Stone Brewing Southern Charred

Stone Brewing Southern Charred reminds me of my childhood for a number of peculiar reasons. First, it should be noted that I originally hail from the great state of Kentucky. As a result, I’ve developed a natural affinity toward all beers Bourbon-barreled, and Southern Charred just so happens to fall into that category.

Goose Island Lolita

There are four sour women that have made their way into to town. These women have spent time aging in barrels and mingling with fruit. Gillian, Lolita, Juliet, and Halia are part of Goose Islands Vintage Ales that were recently put on shelves here in the Denver area. A few weeks ago on PorchDrinking we discussed our favorite beer labels and without a doubt in my mind these ladies take the cake. Read More

On a normal trip to my local liquor emporium, I stumbled upon a strange sight in one of the back coolers. Upon gazing, I see “Viru, beer from Estonia!”. My first thought was “where the hell is Estonia? Eastern block, maybe?” My next thought: “Well, I don’t think I’ve ever had a European beer from outside of Belgium, so let’s give it a whirl!”
Hopworks Urban Brewery – Abominable Winter Ale
November 11, 2013 | Andy HagemannIt’s that time of year. The temperatures have begun to tickle the freezing mark and now that I’m in Oregon, the rains have come. Yes, the fabled northwest rains that have prompted me to eat Vitamin D tablets like candy and consider purchasing a sun lamp. The other remedy for this otherwise depressing weather? A delicious, flavorful winter beer that warms the soul; a beer that is a little more malt-forward, slightly higher in ABV, and has the right spiciness and flavor that reminds me of the holidays. That’s what I have found in the Hopworks Urban Brewery Abominable Winter Ale.

Starting a new job always has its growing pains. Meeting new people, gaining more responsibilities, maintaining a new schedule are all thrown at you at once. It is important to find the delicate balance between these things, new and old. As I sat at the bar of my new employer, West Flanders Brewing Company, thinking about my new co-workers, responsibilities and more, the beer I sipped was a perfect example of successfully creating a delicate balance. Lion Heart Stout weighs in at a decent 7.7 percent and is offered seasonally by West Flanders Brewing Company.
Sixpoint Brewing – The Crisp
November 8, 2013 | Michelle AndrianoABV 5.4% IBU’s 42
Although they are coming up on their 10-year anniversary, I did not become very familiar with Sixpoint Brewing until GABF of last year. Since then, it seems I am constantly introduced to more awesome facts about them. Not to mention their great beer. Just last night, I found myself in front of a phenomenal Chicago centric beer list, however I chose Sixpoint’s The Crisp, a combination of a German and Bohemian Pilsner.
