The Big Beers, Belgians, and Barleywines Festival will be celebrating their 20th anniversary with their 2020 event this year. Over the years, the festival has grown to extend beyond the walls of the Commercial Tasting event, much like what happens each year with GABF. Now, the town of Breckenridge plays host to an assortment of events the week of Big Beers. So, we decided to help round-up everything happening outside of the festival itself. Event Preview | 2019 Denver Festivus Announces Participating Breweries

In a holiday season littered with White Elephants, tinsel and ugly sweaters, I think it’s safe to say what we really care about is cutting straight to the booze and debauchery. Denver Beer Festivus, which returns on Saturday, December 14 from 3-6 pm., cuts to the chase with a host of Denver-based breweries in attendance. This year’s event taking place at Major Studio will also feature a silent disco floor from SoundDown, part luchador-style wrestling and comedy from Lucha Libre and Laughs, a holiday market, food vendors, and plenty more surprises.

For the initiated, it’s already well-known that if there’s one non-negotiable, can’t-miss beer festival in the state of Colorado that represents the ultimate beer nerd experience, it’s Big Beers Belgians and Barleywines. And this year, expect the spectacle to be even bigger than ever.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary the weekend of January 9-11, the next Big Beers, Belgians, and Barleywines will offer a full slate of programming, the return of some of Big Beer’s biggest names from past Featured Brewmasters including Adam Avery, Sam Calagione, Eric Wallace, Brian Dunn, Doug Odell, John Mallett, Jeffrey Stuffing, Cory King, Dave Thibodeau, and more, as well as a Brewers Reception and Traditional Brewmasters’ Dinner on Thursday night with featured brewmasters Neil Fisher of WeldWerks Brewing and Troy Casey from Casey Brewing & Blending.

Santa’s Cookies & Milk Stout helps Chicago-area families in need

The fourth annual release of Santa’s Cookies Imperial Milk (and Cookie) Stout, a collaborative effort by Hailstorm Brewing and The Open Bottle in Tinley Park (Chicago), arrives November 30. Since its first release in 2016, Santa’s Cookies popularity has grown and expanded to include variants, which is good news because part of the proceeds of the beer goes towards the Tinley Wish Foundation, who help local, needy families.

BuckleDown Brewing Set to Release Four Varieties of its Significant BBA Series

On Black Wednesday (Nov 27), BuckleDown Brewing in Lyons, IL (just outside of Chicago proper) will release the third edition of its Significant BBA (Bourbon-Barrel-Aged) Imperial Milk Stout. The three-year-old program has transitioned from bombers to cans, and has grown from one bottled variety to four canned offerings:  the base and three variants. Each year, the brewery has used different barrels to store the beer with this year relying on Few Spirits, located in Chicago.

Event Recap | 2019 Wynkoop Brewing Day of Darks

Again this year dark beer lovers filled the top floor of Wynkoop Brewing Co. for some of Colorado’s best dark beer pours. Breweries from up and down Colorado’s Front Range brought heavy, dark and malty brews to Day of Darks. Meanwhile, Wynkoop supplied chocolate treats for pairing, including ice cream made with Wynkoop’s own Cowtown Milk Stout.

Brewers brought their A-game with kegs, cans, bottles and even some growlers with extra-special brews. While most beers were production-level and available at the breweries, enjoying them all in one space was certainly a great convenience. Attendees also had fun trying a handful of one-offs and pre-release beers that some breweries brought, although one had to sniff those out early as they tended to go fast. Read More
