Event Preview | Chicago Ale Fest — Winter Edition

We’re entering another Chicago winter. The wind, lack of sun and bitter cold tend to keep Chicagoans indoors. But before you enter hibernation mode, it’s time to drink some of Chicago’s finest winter beers. What better place to do so than at the Chicago Ale Fest on February 2. This year, the festival makes its way to Pilsen, where Lacuna Artist’s Lofts will host. The festival boasts live music, food trucks and more than 100 beer pours from over 40 breweries. It will be a day off full of fun, surprises, mouth-watering munchies and plenty of strong, hearty ale to keep you warm until spring.

Adroit Theory’s Dawn of a Dark Day | Five Year Anniversary Pour List

I was first made aware of Adroit Theory in August while I was at the Virginia Craft Brewers Fest in Charlottesville, VA. Their BLVCK Celebration, an imperial porter with Oreo cookies, honey, caramel and toasted coconut blew me completely away, and I’ve had my hoppy eyes on their beer ever since.

Five months later, I’ve been able to get my hands on the Death of Cthulu, a Russian imperial stout, as well as the EBK and I. Adam–both delicious, hazy imperial IPAs.

Maxline Brewing in Fort Collins is making a name for itself as the most dog-friendly place in town. The brewery typically hosts a fundraiser at least once a month; those fundraisers are almost always pup-centric. Puppy adoptions with a local shelter are also scheduled at least once a month and their patio is a haven for all sorts of four-legged friends. Costa Rica Will Host the Second Annual International Beer Cup Exclusively for Independent Craft Breweries

At the beginning of the new year, San José – Costa Rica will host the second annual international beer cup, exclusively for independent craft breweries from January 14 to 19, 2019.

This Cup is the first of its kind that is limited exclusively to independent commercial brewers. Over 600 entries will be judged by 38 judges, including certified BJCP judges, Cicerones and internationally renowned professional brewers from top independent breweries from around the world, including Peter Lengyel, Jennifer Talley, Barrett Tillman, Peter Bouckaert and Ehren Schmidt, to name a few.
