This time last year my wife and I were just settling into our new home in Sacramento. Being here only a few months, we had experienced quite a few of the craft breweries around the area, but hadn’t fully experienced all that the Golden State had to offer to the craft beer lover. Then we went to the Craft Beer Summit and we got the glimpse of the variety and quality of the craft beer in California.

For one week a year, Denver and the surrounding metro area turn upside down for the Great American Beer Festival. While the festival floor is a great place to sample thousands of beers from all across, the events happening outside of the festival have become equally as impressive and formidable. From tap take-overs to beer dinners, special release to actual full-blown separate beer festivals all together have broken off of GABF. So, to help provide some perspective and frothy guidance, we have made that navigation a bit easier with a 2018 GABF Week Events Guide. Too much to sort through and choose? Summer Shindig Recap | Keep It Public Celebrates Outdoors & Local Beer

The coalition known as Keep It Public joined Broomfield’s 4 Noses Brewing in bringing together more than 20 Colorado breweries and a cidery during the Summer Shindig, held on August 25 at the Hangar at Stanley Marketplace in Aurora, Colorado. Keep It Public is a 501c3 non-profit organization, run exclusively by volunteers bound by a mission to educate the community on the American public land system.

Event Recap | Only Child Brewing 3rd Annual Barrel Birthday Bash

Only Child Brewing may not enjoy the street cred afforded to breweries located within the city limits of Chicago, but with its 3rd Annual Barrel Birthday Bash it’s abundantly clear that the skill needed to convert water into wine-barrel-aged beer (or any other BA beer) has nothing to do with a brewery’s geography. Indeed, the barrel aged beers proved to be spectacularly executed and artistically conceived. Throw in some terrific food, fun music, excellent weather, friendly staff and a lively crowd, and it’s easy to see why Only Child continues to grow more popular each year.
To describe each beer would be exhausting, but here are five beer experiences from the day (six beers total) that shed light on the Only Child bash.

On Thursday, August 23, The Brewers of Pennsylvania (BOP) hosted the 2018 Meeting of the Malts. The event, held at Bethlehem, Pa.’s ArtsQuest Center, is an annual gathering of Pennsylvania’s brewers, legislators and beer nerds. Serving as both a celebration of the state’s beer and a “State of the Industry” discussion, Meeting of the Malts was a beautiful evening full of even more beautiful beer.

Dancing Gnome | Lustra Day 2018

Dancing Gnome has been making serious brews and waves in the craft beer scene. They have truly expanded their horizons from hazy IPAs and pale ales to stouts, sours and lagers. In less than two years, Dancing Gnome has: expanded their canning line, added more tanks, hired more staff to help assist in the brewery, collaborated with other breweries and individuals to brew some delicious beer and has become one of the most popular craft beer breweries on the western side of Pennsylvania.
When Dancing Gnome (DG) released their weekly newsletter on July 31 and mentioned Lustra Day, those two words spread quickly through the Pittsburgh craft beer scene. Knowing that Lustra Day would be a huge event for the brewery, I made plans to be in attendance. From that point on, my beer buddies and I planned our arrival times and the beers we would bring for the line share on the big day.
Half Acre’s The Big North Celebrates Duality of Mainstream Appeal & Creativity

This past Saturday, beer fans from across Chicago (and the larger U.S.) made the trek to Half Acre’s Balmoral home to partake in the burgeoning beer fest called The Big North. Half Acre has hosted this event for three years running now. Each year is bigger, each year is better, and each year, the beer list grows to eye-popping quantities. The third iteration of Half Acre’s beer celebration did not disappoint as hundreds of sudsed-up beer fans took in a picturesque summer evening across Half Acre’s ever-expanding campus. The event is special for many reasons, but it’s also an important milestone for Half Acre’s self-titled pursuit of “duality,” which means that they’re able to make enough mainstream brews to keep business moving, while also keeping their creative and experimental programs producing at a high clip. The result of Half Acre’s pursuit was witnessed on Saturday, and boy did it taste good.

Breweries Plan Big Events for First-Ever Georgia Beer Fortnight

We’re gonna need a bigger boat. Why? Because one week of celebrating Georgia craft beer just isn’t going to cut it anymore. Thanks to September 2017 changes in state legislation allowing beer sales directly from breweries to customers, the Georgia Craft Brewers Guild and Wrecking Bar Brewpub have decided to extend Georgia Beer Week by introducing the inaugural Georgia Beer Fortnight.
