Event Preview | Burnt City Brewing GroundHOP Day IPA Release Party
January 26, 2017 | Taylor LaabsIf you’ve ever been to Burnt City Brewing, you know that they like to have fun. From the beer, to the bartenders, to the bowling alley in-house, I always enjoy my time whenever I visit. I definitely can’t wait to attend their Groundhog Day beer release event (no entry cover) on February 2 at Logan Theatre. The event is both a celebration of good beer and beloved Chicago Cubs fan Bill Murray who starred in the acclaimed 90’s movie the event gets its namesake after.

Event Preview | 13th Annual Atlanta Cask Ale Tasting
January 19, 2017 | John BaumThis year’s 13th Annual Atlanta Cask Ale Tasting event is a first for me. I’ve never attended a beer event that instructs you on dress code, but the folks at ACAT advise patrons to bring a hat and gloves.
Event Recap | Noon Whistle Brewing Second Anniversary (Chicago)
January 19, 2017 | Mathew PowersNoon Whistle Brewing | Photo Credit: Mathew Powers
Suburban Chicago’s Noon Whistle Brewing is located in an old strip mall and barely visible from the main road; a location unlikely to garner a passing grade in a Business 101 class. Makes no matter because in the craft beer world, it’s not location, location, location that’s essential; it’s libation, fermentation, innovation.
The beer emerging from Noon Whistle Brewing pulls throngs of thirsty patrons through its doors. And that is why when I arrived a few minutes after the noon hour on a Friday — the first of two days dedicated for its two-year anniversary — I was far from the only person ready to indulge in a parade of special releases. By the time I left that night, the place was packed.
Event Preview | LowDown Barrel-Aged Beer Festival
January 18, 2017 | Brady AkersIf you have attended LowDown Brewery’s Barrel-Aged Beer Festival in the past, you remember the laid back, line-free day of great rare beers. This year’s event is bound to be twice as good; mainly because it’s twice as long with more than double the barrel aged beers. LowDown will again host the event at their brewery this weekend, January 21 and 22.

Event Preview | The Wolpertinger Festival
January 17, 2017 | Jordan PalmerOutside of St. Louis, the city has been known as the beer capital of the world primarily because of the success of the Anheuser-Busch Company and its flagship brew Budweiser. But inside St. Louis, beer drinkers know the city has a deeper connection to the history of suds then just AB. In fact St. Louis has been in the brewing business for more than two centuries with more than 120 breweries operating at one time.

Event Recap | Cloudburst Brewing’s First Ever Anniversary Party
January 10, 2017 | Hannah CarlsonWhen I got to Cloudburst Brewing on Friday for their First Ever Anniversary Party shortly after I had left work, no later than 5:00, the line was already out the door. It was an impressive feat for an event that started a few hours before – especially considering that many craft fanatics were finally able to get to the brewery from leaving their daily grinds.
Brewery Showcase | Eventide Brewing
January 10, 2017 | John BaumWhen I pull into the parking lot at Eventide Brewing, a squat, red-brick structure in Atlanta’s Grant Park neighborhood, a guy is standing atop a 20-foot ladder angled against the building. Wearing protective headphones the size of coconut shells and holding a drill, he watches me get out of my car.
I take a guess at who he might be:
“Nathan Cowan?”
“Yep,” he says. “Shawn’s inside, she’ll get you set up. I’ll be there in a few minutes.”
The drill, the ladder — none of this would surprise folks who know Cowan. Besides his role as the CEO of Eventide, he is also its head engineer. Having spent a decade working in the field of mechanical engineering and construction, Cowan still maintains Professional Engineer status with the state of Georgia, and practices his trade on much of Eventide’s brewing equipment. On this sunny Thursday, however, he is hanging a large banner announcing the brewery’s upcoming three-year anniversary celebration.

Have plans this Friday? No? Well, now you do. You’ll be coming down to Cloudburst Brewing to celebrate their one year anniversary. The brewery’s ‘First Ever Anniversary Party’ will be a time to celebrate and reminisce on Cloudburst’s biggest learnings and accomplishments. Oh, and to drink really good beer, of course.
