Cantillon | Kriek 100% Lambic Bio

Cantillon has been the standard-bearer for the Gueuze and Lambic styles since 1900–before the Theodore Roosevelt administration. In fact, search their brewery on Google Maps and you’ll find it labeled as “Musée Bruxellois de la Gueuze” and to this day each bottle is a seminal exhibit for sour lovers. A bottle of Cantillon is a DeLorean trip back in time and it’s the commitment to preserving the old ways that ensures the quality today. One of the oldest experiments with Lambics was the addition of cherries to the mix and Cantillon’s Kriek 100% Lambic Bio continues to impress into this next millennium.

Kansas City Bier Co. | Winterbock (Dark Doppelbock)

A chorus of cheers drowned out the announcement, but the result was clear as the Kansas City Bier Co. logo appeared on the screen. Winterbock, their Dark Doppelbock lager, had won a silver medal. A longtime fan favorite, the bier had gained international recognition – a huge achievement for the Kansas City, Missouri, brewery.

This was the situation for me just a month ago with Mother Earth Brew Co.‘s flagship beer, Cali Creamin’ Vanilla Cream Ale. I ended up driving back a case for my sister. This wasn’t the first time either.
City Built Brewing | Prague Underground Czech Pilsner

We were recently able to try a Czech Pilsner from City Built Brewing out of Grand Rapids, MI called Prague Underground. We think this beer is brewed true to style and well worth trying out if you enjoy great tasting beer.
The Pilsner is a Lager beer that was originally brewed in 1842 by Bavarian brewer Josef Groll in the town of Pilsen in Bohemia which is now the Czech Republic. Legend has it that beer was brewed in this part of the country as far back as 1307, but the quality of the beer brewed up until the late 1800’s was so inconsistent the locals had dumped barrels of beer to show their disgust! They brought in Josef Groll to implement a new style of beer that focused on local ingredients and paler malts, and as the old saying goes “the rest is history”.

Traditional Oktoberfest beer is usually brewed in September, in line with the two-week festival that takes place in Munich each year. But you shouldn’t count these Lager beauties out as we transition from spooky season to the holiday season. Their light sweetness and crushable nature make them a perfect addition to fall.
From tailgating to apple picking, Rocktoberfest from Almanac Beer Co. should be a part of your fall activities. Brewer Phil Emerson suggests taking it out in nature, “Hiking! Living close to Joaquin Miller park I enjoyed this beer a few afternoons with my pup while soaking in the view of the bay.”

Picture it: Salt Lake City, September 1989. The lights of Utah’s Broadway just got a whole lot brighter. On Sept. 5 of that year, Squatters Craft Beers opened its doors at 147 W. Broadway to become the capital city’s first brewpub. More than three decades later, the pub that ignited Salt Lake’s craft beer revolution is reflecting on its roots.
147 West Broadway Hop, a West Coast-style IPA, is the first in Squatters’ new series of rotating IPAs designed to celebrate the city’s now-booming beer community.

This Halloween-themed Pumpkin Spiced Lager from Maryland-based DuClaw Brewing Co. isn’t just for pumpkin beer aficionados. Although it has the traditional seasonal flavorings (pumpkin, cinnamon and nutmeg), they don’t overwhelm the Munich Dunkel foundation this beer is built on.
