October 8, 2021 | Brandon CohranOctober is upon us which means the weather outside is delightful, the holidays are coming and Spooky Season is in full swing. Graft | The Haunting Artwork of Branch & Bone’s Autumn Zephyr
October 7, 2021 | David NilsenThe bare shoulder and neck of what we assume is a human woman is sketched in pencil. The lines vary in shade and weight like they’re drawn from shadows. Where the neck meets the face, a skeletal jaw emerges, the teeth all wrong like they were ripped from something that hunts the dark forest. The upper teeth are human, and above them, the hollow eye sockets of a skull that nonetheless seem to stare straight into us.
And it’s here the nightmare really begins. Massive branches of a great tree split from the top of the skull like an antler rack, too heavy for the neck but held up by a hidden, infernal strength, stretching their limbs and fingers into the fog. Looking closer, the creature’s own arms bear a faint pattern of bark, the entire thing some alchemy of primeval nature and inchoate humanity stalking the landscape of our dreams.

Ska Brewing | Barrel Aged Old Fashioned – 25th AND 26th Anniversary Edition
October 5, 2021 | Dane SkousenBreweries like to go big on their anniversary. Usually a party, special tappings, food trucks, and sometimes, a special beer. Ska Brewing in Durango, Colorado celebrates their anniversary with live ska bands and around 25 guest breweries pouring shaker glasses full of beer for thirsty partygoers. With COVID in full swing last September, the team made the tough decision to cancel the party. This year, they went big… really big. (And I’m not just talking about the Mighty Mighty Bosstones headlining the sold-out party.)
Good Word Brewing & Public House | Are You Living in a Computer Simulation?
October 4, 2021 | Kevin KainReflecting on Good Word Brewing’s lager releases since opening in 2017, brewer/owner Todd DiMatteo candidly admits they’ve gotten better. He’s made a number of them, but only brewed Helles one other time before this effort, Are You Living in a Computer Simulation. Though it’s a fine beer as is, he will continue to refine it. Read More

The quintessential small-town-Texas vibe is punctuated by the enormous queues snaking out of Lockhart’s four famous barbecue joints on the weekend, which attract visitors from across the state and further afield. Now there is a new reason to visit Lockhart: Hawkins Farmhouse Ales.
Hopewell Brewing | Endgrain Oktoberfest
September 30, 2021 | Rachel MorrisonThe fact that Märzen-style beers aren’t offered year-round is devastating. Even if we all had to come together and choose just one local offering to hold onto outside of the season, I’m convinced that Endgrain by Hopewell Brewing would have a strong chance.
Taft’s Brewing Co. | Oktubberfest
September 29, 2021 | Jereme ZimmermanWith so many Oktoberfest beers to choose from, it’s challenging to sample them all, but we’re trying. Oktubberfest, a Festbier from Cincinnati’s Taft’s Brewing Co. is a fine example of a light, easy-drinking Lager-style Oktoberfest beer.
Beards Brewery | Hop Up North Imperial Red IPA
September 28, 2021 | Eeva SharpIn a season that has many brewers rummaging through their spice cabinets to pull together something pumpkin spiced, Beards Brewery in Petoskey, Michigan chose a different path. Hop Up North Imperial Red IPA is a welcome addition to autumn beer.
Griesedieck Brothers Brewing | Golden Pilsener
September 27, 2021 | Brian MargiottaWhen I get a quality Pilsner, I forget all about the juicy Triple IPAs and overly fruited Sours that are often all the rage. There’s something timeless about a quality Pilsner that feels right, from the aroma to the light, crisp mouthfeel.
Carolina Brewery | Sky Blue Kölsch

4 Noses Brewing Co. | Pump Action Imperial Pumpkin Ale
September 21, 2021 | Darren CockrellSomebody call Green Day and tell them that September is ending. Autumn is officially here, so it’s time to don your sweater, ditch the Pilsners and prepare your palate for Stout season. And, as nature changes her hues, perhaps the most fittingly transitionary beer is the humble pumpkin beer: smooth, sweet, spiced and full of that guilty pleasure that we crave this time of year.

Lost Worlds Brewing Co. | Goseck Black Lager
September 20, 2021 | Aaron GoreLost Worlds Brewing Co. in Cornelius, North Carolina has always done things a little differently than many of its contemporaries. While the area has become increasingly recognized for its IPAs and Sours, they have largely looked to the old world for their inspiration, with a portfolio that hearkens back to traditions that are decades, if not centuries, old.

Rightside Brewing | Citrus Wheat & American IPA
September 15, 2021 | Brandon CohranThe world of craft beverages seems to expand every day as more and more producers pump out products ranging from pre-mixed cocktails to Seltzers.
There is likely one area of the industry, though, that you have probably skimmed over when it comes to shopping coolers or shelves at your local bottle shop. No, don’t think about the newest candy-inspired Sour Ale or adjunct-loaded Barrel-Aged Stout. You should be thinking about your next non-alcoholic beer purchase. Read More

Marz Brewing | Jungle Boogie American Pale Wheat
September 13, 2021 | Rachel MorrisonIf you haven’t had Jungle Boogie by Marz, I’m sorry. Jungle Boogie, like Marz Brewing itself, has a cult following. It’s deserved. It’s an American Pale Wheat beer brewed with rooibos tea. The beer is perfectly rounded by the subtle sweetness from the mixed wheat grain bill and the stone fruit flavors of the rooibos tea. Light enough, at 5.5% ABV, that you can keep drinking it. Which is convenient, because you’ll want to go for another pint. Jungle Boogie is a flagship and staple at Marz. It’s the middle of the road in terms of the brewery’s long list of hoppy offerings, fruited sours, and clean lagers. The beer itself has thankfully stayed the same. Beyond infrequent adjunct offerings from mango to the more recent blueberry release, you know what you’re getting with Jungle Boogie, the very best.
