January 22, 2025 | Tristan ChanThroughout the years, the state of Kentucky has gained international renown for everything from bluegrass music to horse racing, basketball, fried chicken, and more. But there might be no commodity more closely associated with the Bluegrass state than the country’s original homegrown spirits, bourbon whiskey.
Now, a new upstart company hopes to put a different kind of craft beverage on the map in the form of Kentucky Hop Water, a zero-calorie, non-alcoholic hop-infused carbonated soda water. Wiley Roots Brewing | Vanilla Pseudonym
January 17, 2025 | Britt AntleyBarrel-aged beer often takes inspiration from the spirit it uses, but rarely does that inspiration lead to the name of the beer and subsequent series of releases. Seeking to source barrels for an Imperial Stout back in 2017, Wiley Roots Brewing was drawn to utilizing a local distillery instead of a broker. They landed on Laws Whiskey House. “Knowing the quality of Laws and their products made it an easy choice, especially knowing they have a lot of intentionality about where their barrels go,” says Dave Frediani, head brewer at Wiley Roots. Laws began under a pseudonym, Gargoyle Enterprises, in its initial distilling phase to ensure they were creating a product that would eventually be worthy of the Laws name. This became the inspiration for the release of the original Pseudonym in 2018, which would morph into an entire -nym series (Acronym, Homonym, Autonym, and Anonym so far) and lead to the release of Vanilla Pseudonym 6+ years later.

The Complete Guide To Michigan Beer Festivals
January 13, 2025 | Zach VanderGraaffThe Mitten State isn’t just one of the most beautiful places in the United States; it’s also one of the “meccas” of the craft beer community. During Prohibition and the subsequent consolidation by the big beer companies, our dedication to this delectable liquid and state distribution laws helped protect our brewery trade when everyone else was closing. As a result, quality craft beer is a part of Michigan’s heritage, and it shows in the stunning amount of Michigan beer festivals hosted annually around the Great Lakes State.
