12 Beers of Christmas Day 7| Fat Head’s Holly Jolly Christmas Ale
December 20, 2014 | Brady AkersWhen kids think of Christmas, they generally think of a jovial fat man and the presents he bribes in return for good behavior. Although it wasn’t for good behavior, I was rewarded a 6-pack of Fat Head’s Holly Jolly Christmas Ale from my older brother because my Indianapolis Colts stomped on his Cincinnati Bengals earlier this season. 12 Beers of Christmas Day 6 | Tröegs Mad Elf Ale
December 19, 2014 | Danny KingChristmas is a time of joy and laughter and good feelings. It’s also a time where one freaks out thinking of perfect gift ideas, is over-commited to attend too many parties in 3 weeks, and deals with high-stress travel plans that all conspire to drive you insane. When I was 13, my family took over hosting duties for my mom’s 7 siblings and their family. By Christmas Eve, we weren’t speaking to each other and the only carols I heard were the frantic string instruments in my head like the score to Martha, Inc. Read More
Spiked Hot Chocolate = Bourbon + Beer + Hot Chocolate!
December 18, 2014 | Natalie MigliariniToday my recipe highlights beer from 33 Acres Brewing Company located in Vancouver, Canada. I visited the popular tasting room on a typical stormy night in Vancouver and it was packed. 33 Acres has a sleek and modern tasting room that almost resembles a New England hipster coffee house. Beaming white washed boards and elegant clean lines with adorning taps make for an apeasing aura.
12 Beers of Christmas Day 5 | SweetWater Festive Ale
December 18, 2014 | Jess BakerChristmas songs play on the radio way too early and holiday sales seem to go up before the kids have even picked out their Halloween costumes. But as annoying as starting Christmas too early can be, SweetWater Festive Ale could be released on the 4th of July and I’d be okay with that.

12 Beers of Christmas Day 2 | Southern Tier Krampus
December 15, 2014 | Kevin RisnerABV: 9%
Krampus: an under-appreciated mythic figure during the holiday season. That is, up until recently. We have always received the stories and quaint images of good old St. Nicholas, the jolly fellow who gives the “good” kids gifts in their stockings. Krampus is the imp-like figure that, depending on the European myth, bestows upon the naughty kids bad gifts or even kidnaps them and brings them to his lair. Sounds pleasant…
Thankfully, the Krampus that I will be talking more about today is the complete opposite from our devilish comrade; it is a present provided to us from Southern Tier, and it is the perfect refreshment for any of your December festivities.

Paradox Beer Company | Skully Barrel No. 17
December 12, 2014 | John Maguire 1ABV: 8.5%
IBU: 103
Since their introduction in 2012, Paradox Beer Company has been constantly enhancing their craft and releasing ‘banging’ beers to the state of Colorado.
Based out of Woodland Park, “The City Above the Clouds,” Paradox’s mission is to produce ancient beers with modern brewing processes. Already up to batch 17, their Skully Barrel Project is their sour barrel aged series. Each batch is a small release with only around 80 cases. Mainly sold out of their tap house, you can get lucky and find their bottles throughout Colorado. Read More
Cooking with Beer | Cran-bozen Sauce
December 11, 2014 | Chelsea Mitchell
I’m well aware that it is 2 weeks past Thanksgiving and I’m just now posting a cranberry sauce recipe. Up on the east coast, our holiday turned into quite the event when all the power went out. Not only did we have to prepare for 30 people coming over to our feast, I needed to find out how to post this recipe. Unfortunately, no electricity means no wifi so I saved this cranberry dream until now. I’m confident everyone at your Christmas party is going to love it.
Festival Recap | Parade of Darks Festival 2014
December 11, 2014 | Brady AkersOver the last five years, Parade of Darks has become a Denver staple, helping with the transition from Thanksgiving into the holiday season. This year’s event switched gears from year’s past by moving from the comfortable confines of the upstairs area at Wynkoop Brewery to the exciting and bustling Bindery on Blake.
The complex at 29th and Blake was extremely busy, hosting both a flea market open to the public and the ticketed beer festival. The Parade of Darks was separated from the Flea Market in a large open-space area as well as a long hallway. Breweries lined the large area as well as the backside of the hallway.
Wicked Weed | Black Angel
December 11, 2014 | Christopher HilliardABV: 6.6% | IBU: 16
In the shadow of the mountains of western North Carolina lies a beautiful, eclectic city called Asheville. While it’s known for many things, one of the greatest is its big and burgeoning beer scene. With dozens of quality craft brewers in the area, it takes something bold and unique to really stand out among such strong competition. Fortunately, we have just the thing in our review today of Wicked Weed Brewing’s Black Angel, a black sour ale aged in bourbon barrels on “obscene amounts of tart cherries” (it says so right on the bottle). Wicked Weed Brewing specializes in uniquely sour beers (among a slew of hoppy beers and Belgian styles), and Black Angel is perhaps one of their greatest creations. Read More
Event Preview | Festivus 2014
December 10, 2014 | Chris DayThe winter holiday season is here, and I couldn’t be more delighted. First there’s Thanksgiving, a feat of herculean gorging culminating in the revered presentation of one of the world’s blandest animals, the turkey. I just can’t get excited about a bird with a flavor that falls somewhere between a supermarket chicken and gas station paper towels. Next, there’s the compulsory shopping gauntlet of Black Friday and Cyber Monday where desperate consumers fight each other tooth and nail while risking trampling and pepper spray for vaunted treasures like discounted copies of Grown Ups 2 or that one TV they swear sold out just before you arrived. Then we limp shivering and penniless through Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa, all scored with that execreble holiday music that’s been pummeling your ears for what feels like three months. I suppose my grinch status is well confirmed by this point, but I’m just not much of a holiday person. Thank Krampus there’s Festivus to look forward to. Read More
