Ultimate 6er | Leaving the Upper Peninsula
June 4, 2014 | Colin ClancyWedged between the three Greatest of the Great Lakes: Superior, Michigan, and Huron and Wisconsin and Canada lies a strange and mystic land called the Upper Peninsula. Many people don’t know that the Upper Peninsula, the U.P, even exists. It’s a beautiful place full of waterfalls, dense forests, and miles and miles of rugged shoreline, but it’s not for everyone. Harsh winters and a definite remoteness make Yoopers a special breed of people. Yoopers are tough, prideful, and stubborn, sometimes to the point of idiocy. Having moved from the U.P. a few weeks ago, I’m getting settled into my new Utah home, but I miss the Yoop every day. Read More

Stem Ciders | Banjo Cider
May 30, 2014 | Laura GrahamPost-Memorial Day my taste buds begin to boycott woody, smoky porters better suited for cold, cloudy days of yore and turn to crisp, refreshing flavors that pair nicely with patios and sunburns. I’m from an Irish/Scottish family (see: sunburns) whose fridges and cellars were always stocked with a variety of ciders. Countless times growing up, I sat with my family while they told stories and sang songs – stealing sips of their ciders, trying not to get caught.
Cooking with Beer | Le Freak-ishly Good Beer Salad Dressing
May 29, 2014 | Chelsea Mitchell
Salad dressing and beer: two things that I love. One thing I hate… is salad. Now you may ask, how could you like salad dressing but you don’t like salad? Because I’m smart and because eating leaves is just gross. Like I claim in my bio, I’m just like Leslie Knope and we both ‘hate salad and other disgusting things.’ Seriously though, who was the first person to look down at the ground and decide that they wanted to nom on some grass? It’s not good and I refuse to give in to this veggie loving society. Instead, I will dip my pizza, fries and mozzarella sticks in ranch. I will marinate all my meat in Italian dressing and I will coat every patty melt in 1000 island. That’s just how I roll.

Half Acre Beer Company | Inspiring the Brewer in You
May 28, 2014 | Lindsay Snyder“Our mission is to make a beer you can sit down with your buddies and feel good about.” As soon as I stepped into the bustling warehouse that this Chicago-based crew playfully refers to as SS Half Acre, led by the captain himself decreeing his mission, I knew I was going to like this place. Santa Fe Brewing Company | Imperial Java Stout
May 26, 2014 | Chris Day8% ABV
Anthony Trollope wrote “What on earth could be more luxurious than a sofa, a book, and a cup of coffee?” Well, I guess he never considered wrapping a rich, creamy stout around that cup of Joe. Sure, it was the 1850’s and Santa Fe Brewing didn’t exist yet, so perhaps I should give him a pass. Regardless, I’m almost positive old Tony would change his mind if handed a delicious imperial stout brewed with locally roasted coffee beans sourced from East Timor and New Guinea. Read More

Paris Beer Week | Forget the pinot noir, now you can get a good pint in Paris
May 22, 2014 | Kate Robinson 1Tasteless? Unrefined? Too filling? Probably not how you’d describe the majority of the beer you’re used to drinking. After the all-too-common declaration “Oh, I don’t like it,” these are fairly standard reactions to beer in France, where wine still gets all the attention.
Although a spirit of creativity and experimentation permeates the French craft beer community, negative stereotypes about beer persist among the general public: it’s seen as uninteresting swill for a hot day or to accompany a football match. Many Parisians aren’t even aware that there are nearly a dozen craft breweries operating in their own backyard. Read More
