Take some time this weekend to check out some very limited beer releases that you may actually be able to get your hands on. Whether you’re looking for something light, tart or boozy, there’s a new option for you coming out this week.
Riverbend Malt House Expands Its Capacity

Riverbend Malt House, based in Asheville, North Carolina, has expanded its overall malthouse capacity by 40 percent through the installation of a new 10-tonne Germination Kiln Vessel (GKV) unit.
Metropolitan Brewing | Krankshaft German-Style Kölsch

In 2008, long before breweries populated every Chicago neighborhood and suburban town, Metropolitan Brewing opened its doors. Today’s Chicago beer market now supports several Lager-focused breweries, but Metro served as the city’s trailblazer. There’s nothing pretentious or Bourgeoisie about Metro; it’s a come-as-you-are brewery. (And a Malört-friendly place, too.) And one can revel in the brilliance of its brewing at its gorgeous taproom and patio spot located on the Chicago River, a location they opened in 2017. Among the many beers they produce, there’s one that isn’t technically a lager: Krankshaft German-style Kölsch. Drinking Krankshaft provides insight into why Metro has evolved into one of Chicago’s most respected and recognizable breweries.

The Tokyo 2021 2020 summer games are in full swing. The events officially kicked off on Friday, but the United States National Women’s Soccer Team is already three games into their quest for the Gold Medal.
Despite being back-to-back World Cup Champions in 2015 and 2019, this USWNT came into this this year’s competition with a chip on their shoulder. An early exit from the 2016 games in Rio was still fresh in their minds five years later. However, maybe the unexpected extra year was too long. The USWNT came out incredibly flat and lost an embarrassing 3-0 match to Sweden. The USWNT bounced back in their second game in the group stage, defeating New Zealand 6-1 before drawing even, nil to nil, with Australia Despite the lackluster effort in group play, the USWNT has advanced to tournament play and will face the Netherlands on Friday at 7:00 am EST.
The United States has a tough road ahead of them this year. All eyes will be on the reigning back-to-back World Cup champions to see how they play the rest of the tournament.

Go to any backyard BBQ in south Texas and you’ll likely see beers dressed in some form of chili-lime salt. Usually used on mass-produced lagers (especially those in a green bottle marked with two red X’s), dressing a beer has typically been a way to add flavor to mediocre beer, and the trend seems to be spreading. But what if a beer was intentionally brewed to compliment the addition while also tasty enough to stand on its own? That’s exactly what Cactus Land Brewing Co. set out to do with their Lucas Salted Pilsner, and based on the reaction from the locals, they’ve created the perfect beer to enjoy in the South Texas heat.
Fusion Brewing | Stange Days Kolsch

This is the motto of Lexington, Kentucky’s Fusion Brewing and their Stange Days Czech-style Kolsch is a fine exemplar of this motto. Crisp, clean and light yet rich and malty, this fusion of Czech Pilsner and Czech Ale goes down easy any time of the year.
Revolution Brewing Announces 2021-2022 Deep Wood Lineup

It seems as if Revolution Brewing’s Deep Wood release in July was a tease for the announcement of the full 2021-2022 lineup that happened less than a week later. In typical Revolution fashion, the releases will happen once a month staring in October and concluding in January.

Beers from the Pacific North West just hit different. Oftentimes, when ordering a flight there’s one (or a couple) that disappoints. In Portland, you could order a flight at every brewery in town and continue to be even more impressed by the next pour. That, or the perfect summer weather and warm, eclectic residents will brainwash you into thinking so. While there are plenty of Portland breweries to try, don’t miss Baerlic Beer Co., especially if Blippo Pils is on draft.
Launch Pad Brewery Celebrates Six Years With Festive Weekend

Most of the creations from Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergso’s five-year-old NYC brewery marry a blend of fruits with a traditional style to accentuate and build on the flavors you might expect. How New Glarus Brewing Kept its Employees Top of Mind in its Marketing, Pandemic Response

New Glarus Brewing beer courses through the veins of Wisconsin, yet its presence isn’t overbearing. The quiet brewery, stationed atop a hill in quaint New Glarus, Wisconsin thrives on subtlety. They don’t do any advertising—at all. Instead, they thrive on word-of-mouth marketing from their hordes of fans, both in-state and out-of-state. These avid fans clamor to buy their beer across Wisconsin outposts. They also trade for it if they reside outside of state lines. The brewery doesn’t need more marketing, but it still looks for new ways to connect with their audience. One of those avenues is through setting up a new Twitter account. This also connects with New Glarus’ broader mission of putting their employees first, in marketing decisions, brewery upkeep and their COVID-19 pandemic response. I talked to New Glarus’ COO and General Counsel, Drew Cochrane, about how New Glarus acts on this overarching mission.

Sometimes the best beers are the ones you stumble upon. Get lost in a new city, let your phone die (or be smart and bring a charger) and wander into a nearby brewery. Fair Isle Brewing is located in the Ballard neighborhood in Seattle, Washington. It’s in great company among the largest concentration of breweries in the Seattle area, but Fair Isle does things differently. They focus solely on Saisons and Farmhouse Ales. While the beer menu is impressive, Eleanor alone is worth the trip.

Elsewhere Brewing, in Atlanta, Georgia, is undoubtedly one of the best places in town to grab a beer or meal. Travel and adventure are two things close to the heart of owners Sara and Sam Kazmer. This influence of travel is evident in the taplist and kitchen menu. The ambiance invokes the sense of wonder and journey as cacti and greenery sprawl throughout the space.
There’s room at the table for everyone, and a beer for them, too. European-style Pilsners to Fruit Sours, IPAs to Pastry Stouts all have a place on the rotating taplist. The beer getting all of the attention in this showcase, though, is their Landscape Lager Organic Keller Pils. Read More
Shippingport Brewing Wants to Be a Catalyst for Change in Louisville’s West End

When Amelia Pillow decided to open her own brewery, she wanted to pick a location that could be a catalyst for change for the neighborhood she calls home. Pillow opened Shippingport Brewing in the Portland neighborhood of Louisville, KY, becoming the first taproom and brewpub to open in Louisville’s West End.
Denver Beer Co. NFT Release Grants Owner “Beer for Life”

How much would you pay to drink for free, for the rest of your life, at your favorite Craft Brewery? It’s a question that was answered by one Denver Beer Co. enthusiast when he won the auction for the “Beer for Life” NFT recently for 4.33 of the Cryptocurrency Ethereum (roughly $9,200 USD at the time of purchase).
“We like to play on the edge of the news and be fresh and try new things,” says Denver Beer Co.’s Co-Founder Charlie Berger. “We had to learn about NFT’s. Not many people knew about them nine months ago. We really just wanted to just try it, and we wanted to learn about it by creating it.”
