Dogfish Head Expansion into Canned Cocktails Was Only a Matter of Time

Their recent expansion of taking their canned cocktail program nationwide, by leveraging their in-house distilling program and national distribution network, is yet another example of how the brewery continues to make moves in the face of a tumultuous craft beer marketplace. When Ravi Patel launched Other Desi Beer Co. in 2019, one of his primary aims was to share the tastes and flavors of the Indian food that he grew up with through the medium of high-quality craft beer. With several Indian-cuisine-inspired brews already under his belt, including the delightfully bright and zingy 3 Ranis Pink Guava Hibiscus Sour and the deep, layered High Chai Stout featuring cardamom, black pepper and cinnamon, Patel has now pulled off the coup of brewing what may be the first beer to feature India’s national sweet, the jalebi.

Harassment, sexism, and discrimination are not new to the beer industry, or any industry. Reports have swirled amongst employees and peers for years with little to no action, but 2021 was the year the dam finally broke.
This year, the beer industry has seen a massive influx of accusations and reports of discrimination, harassment, and even assault as a result of Brienna Allan’s recent Instagram movement. These stories shared on social media pages like Twitter, Instagram, and Reddit, have sent shock waves through the beer industry. And while many of these cases have lead to massive overhauls in personnel, resignations, and overall policy, several more stories of abhorrent behavior continue to emerge including at some of the world’s largest and fastest-growing breweries.

CITRA, CITRA, CITRA is the response we received from Jekyll Brewing Founder Michael Lundmark when asked about the hop profile for Southern Juice, which is one of their year-round core beers. Southern Juice is a lighter IPA that was inspired by the New England IPA style. Lundmark described it as a “Really juicy beer and very New England like without the Haze factor” Lundmark also noted that “while Southern Juice was inspired by the New England style, it’s not a NEIPA, it’s Southern Juice!”
