Ultimate 6er | Beers for Twitter’s Emo Kylo Ren
January 6, 2016 | Jess Baker
Kylo Ren is the absolute worst. The short-tempered, Force-powered, hero-killing Generation Xer earned that ass kicking at the end of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
While Kylo Ren is a tough guy to like, Twitter’s Emo Kylo Ren (@KyloR3n) is another story. The genius parody handle is a digital diary of the Dark Side knight. And you guys, life is soooo not easy for Emo Kylo Ren.
Ultimate 6er | Beer & Christmas Movie Pairing
December 23, 2015 | Cecelia KathleenThe week of Christmas is a time to curl up by the warm fire, cold brew in hand whilst watching something festive. We all have our go-to movies to watch around this time of year. Here are six beer and movie pairings to get PorchDrinkers in the holiday spirit!
Ultimate 6er | Beer And Voodoo Doughnut Pairing
December 21, 2015 | Brady Akers
Treat Yo’self Day is an amazing concept bestowed upon all humanity thanks to Tom Haverford and Donna Meagle on Parks & Recreation. Treat Yo’self is not a holiday (officially) or birthday occurrence; it is just a normal day where you throw caution to the wind and indulge in any and all material pleasures you like. In honor of this concept, I decided to Treat My’self by combining two of my all time favorite things into a Craft Beer and Voodoo Doughnuts Pairing.
Ultimate 6er | Christmas Cookie & Beer Pairings
December 16, 2015 | Holly Gerard 1This is one of my favorite times of year. Especially because I have an excuse to bake up a storm of Christmas cookies and sweets. So why not punch up your treats with some Christmas Cookie and Beer pairings? Who needs Christmas whiskey when you have winter beers? But don’t worry, if you aren’t a big baker or candy maker, there are a couple of store bought options for you to pair that beer with as well.

Ultimate 6er | Must-try Beers from Belgium and Beyond
December 2, 2015 | Kara Loo and Kelissa Hieber 1About three weeks ago we touched back down on U.S. soil after a whirlwind trip through Germany and Belgium. Against our better judgement, we managed 7 bottles of Belgian beer (both large and small) through 6 airports. It was a heavy experience, toeing the weight limit line on several occasions, and it was a moment of relief to unpack each intact, fizzy bottle in our kitchen. The trip was a fantastic one that we’re so grateful for. As a craft beer lover, most trips conveniently seem to involve a brewery or two, but the trip to Belgium was the king of all brew-centric journeys.
To those who want to take the trip – it may be closer within reach than you think. A flight to Europe is undoubtedly a financial setback, but traveling, eating and drinking your way around Belgium is fairly cheap, and the country is so small you can digest it all in a week or less, no problem. You will find yourself overwhelmed by amazing beer options at a price that is unfathomable for such rare gems.
Ultimate 6er | Beers to Pair with Your Thanksgiving Meal
November 25, 2015 | Holly GerardPhoto courtesy of Discover San Diego
Ah, Thanksgiving. That time of year we kick off the holiday season with family, friends and lots of food. It only seems fitting to pair all of that food with appropriate beers though, right? Well, be sure to take some notes and get your beer shopping on, these pairings won’t disappoint. I had a great time whipping up these dishes to pair with some very stellar beers.
Ultimate 6er | Virginia’s Novemberfest
November 18, 2015 | Stacey Goers
It’s fitting that a beer event called Novemberfest would fall on rainy, chilly and damp day. But Rustico‘s event did not disappoint, with generous pours, ponchos and umbrellas, plus massive, … Read More
Ultimate 6er | Smoked Beers
November 11, 2015 | Mike WronskiSmoky flavors in food and drink have a long history. When the only method of cooking was using an open fire, you could pretty much expect smoke to impart a scent or flavor into whatever you were putting over it. Beer was no different. In fact, up to the 1700s, pretty much every beer was a smoke beer since the only method to dry the malt would be over an open flame. It wasn’t until after kilning methods were developed that pulled the smoke away from the malt that beer started tasting the way we know today. And smoke beers began their fast decline quickly thereafter. Read More
Ultimate 6er | State Fair of Texas
November 4, 2015 | Kezia Ibarra
When you think of Texas you think of many things, the Dallas Cowboys for one (let’s hope they pull it together soon), massive beef steaks and the State Fair of Texas. This yearly event draws hundreds of thousands over to Fair Park in Dallas, Texas and is the largest & longest running fair in the nation.
Literary Beer Collection | Halloween Edition
October 30, 2015 | Johnathan PylantI am excited to bring you a second edition of the Literary Beers series. Can we call it a series now that there is more than one? Meh, who is counting… I lost count long ago.
This edition of Literary Beers will focus on stories/brews that are centered around Halloween. I have scoured retail shelves and library catalogs to find you the most intriguing and haunting of literary brewing collaborations. So, light a candle and grab a pumpkin ale because this is about to get real!
The Ultimate 6er | Trick R Treat!
October 28, 2015 | Cory PelcHalloween is my favorite holiday. Something about the crisp fall air and the leaves changing colors has always pulled at my heart strings. Growing up in Colorado, we would always wait for the 31st of October and crossing our fingers that it wouldn’t snow so you didn’t have to wear a coat under your costume. Fast-forward a bunch of years and the holiday still has me twisted. I look forward to picking out my costume, planning on which parties I can attend and planning my must-try beers to go along with my favorite Halloween movies. My favorite Halloween movie is without a doubt, Trick R Treat. The one from 2007 and not the 80’s one. Sure, the 80’s film is great for all of its metal mischief but it can’t hold a candle-in-a-jack-o-lantern to the Samhain anthology of stories that intertwine and enthrall you into following all of the Halloween rules!
Ultimate 6er | Halloween Beer Costumes
October 21, 2015 | Niel Stender 2
When I was a child, growing up in suburban New Jersey, there was a Halloween costume contest every year at the park around the corner from our house. The process involved walking around in a circle, with other eager trick-or-treaters, so the judges could get a load of everyone’s gear. The winner for each category received a $2 bill, exciting stuff for a 6-year-old in *cough cough* 1986. I am proud to say I won this contest for one category or another several times. Now that I’m an “adult” I’ll go out on a limb and wager it may have been rigged since my mom was the mayor of our town. But that’s not the point.
Ultimate 6er | Awesome Autumn Ales
October 14, 2015 | Carly MentoFor those who love a crisp, cold ale to accompany the newly arriving autumn weather, this six pack was built for you.
Ultimate 6er | Marathon Style
October 7, 2015 | Dan Olds
My two passions are craft beer and competitive running. Although I love to drink beer and run races they don’t always agree with each other. The Beer Mile is a race where competitors run four laps around a track while chugging a beer after each lap. The male record is 4:55.78 and the women’s is 6:17.8. This may be a fun challenge but I’m not sure if they are drinking the type of beer I would savor my taste buds with.
Ultimate 6er | Reliving Utah’s Past GABF Success
September 30, 2015 | Chris & Sylvia Hollands
At the time you are reading this, we are either recovering from a week long hangover or dead! GABF would be the way to die. Hundreds of breweries bringing the best beers in the world. There is nothing greater than walking shoulder to shoulder with tens of thousands of like-minded people. Everywhere you turn is a new friend and a beer. Yep, pretty sure we died. Seems like the pearly gates are drenched in golden suds.
We live in Utah and dream of Denver, Bend, San Diego and Asheville. But wait a minute… if you believe in the alcohol lockdown in the Wasatch Mountains, we surely live in beer hell. We are here to say, this is absolutely not true. We present six GABF medal winning beers from the last several years. So when the Zion curtain locks us in, we will be okay, because Utah brewers make some sweet brews. Read More
Ultimate 6er | Beoir: Ireland’s Growing Craft Scene
September 16, 2015 | Mike Wronski 1
This week marks the halfway point to St. Patrick’s Day. And since a typical St. Paddy’s Day celebration couldn’t get farther from anything actually Irish, being furthest away from that day is a good time to explore some authentic Irish beer!
Ultimate 6er | Harry Potter
September 4, 2015 | Hannah CarlsonIn case you muggles missed it, September 1 was a very eventful day.
While you all were going about your typical Tuesdays – going to work, catching the bus, buying your groceries, whathaveyou, James Sirius Potter was starting his first day at Hogwarts.
Ultimate 6er | Good Brew to All That : New York City Beers
September 2, 2015 | Danny King
Joan Didion wrote “Goodbye to All That” about falling in and out of love with New York after leaving the city. Like most of the works considered essential cannon of literature, I haven’t read it (blame the Strand, suckers will NOT reduce the price of her books one dollar). It’s in fact such essential reading for the New York transplant that it’s spawned its own cottage industry of “leaving New York” personal essays.
I recently (as in like last week) moved back to Detroit after six years in New York. I’m happy to be out of all the craziness and expense of the city, but know that I’ll be missing so much that only New York can offer. With all that wonders of the city no longer mine for the taking, I’d thought I’d share the 6 New York City beers that I’m going to miss the most.

And what better way to celebrate the advent of a new season than with some brews? As a native Clevelander and lifelong Browns fan, I know the football season brings with it a roller coaster of experiences spanning across a wide spectrum.
