Ultimate 6er | 2019 Oscars & Beer Pairings
February 20, 2019 | Ana PlefkaThe 2019 Academy Awards will go without a host this year (the first time in 30 years), but that doesn’t mean they shall go without beer. As the finest in film-making are popping bottles of Champagne to celebrate their Oscar wins, beer-loving viewers can enjoy these brew pairings fit for this year’s Best Picture nominees. Who needs a nervous comedian to tell jokes when you’ve got a glass of a quality beer to sip?

Ultimate 6er | Six Beers to Celebrate Valentine’s Day
February 13, 2019 | Stephanie GrantWine has become synonymous with Valentine’s Day, but it’s time for that to change. With all the chocolate candies and desserts flying around, stouts and porters make a much better pairing for the day. While, it would have been easy to make this a love letter to dark, chocolaty beers, this list has a little something for everyone. Including a bonus beer at the end for anyone who doesn‘t have a valentine this year. Read More
Ultimate 6er | New England Patriots Pre-Big Game Guide
February 2, 2019 | Zach BenardDynasties are a thing of wonder. The Romanov Dynasty, the Ming Dynasty, the Brady-Belichick Dynasty–the list goes on.
For the New England Patriots, Super Bowl LIII marks their ninth appearance since 2002, their fourth in five years, and their third straight. For fans of the Patriots, it’s hard to not feel spoiled by the amount of championships in the 21st century. It’s also hard to not feel spoiled by the amazing craft beer the region has to offer. For fans of all the other 31 NFL teams, well… does the word “annoyed” come to mind?
I was 8 when the Patriots won their first Super Bowl. So, being a Massachusetts-native, it felt only fitting for me to honor yet another Super Bowl appearance for the Patriots. Patriots fans, this Ultimate 6er is for you. Read More
Ultimate 6er | Dry January Yearnings
January 30, 2019 | Jessica SpenglerFor January, my husband and I decided to take part in Dry January, a month of staying away from all alcohol. For many, this month is meant to kick start better habits and possibly pinpoint problems with drinking, but we are doing it to see what sort of impact it might have on our weight (and possibly our pocketbook). I have certainly appreciated the lack of accidental hangovers as well. Read More
Ultimate 6er | National Pie Day Beer + Pie Pairings
January 23, 2019 | Karen MillsJanuary 23rd marks National Pie Day. For us beer lovers, it’s just another chance to create a fun pairing between food and delicious craft beer! For me, the idea came about after having visited WeldWerks for the first time. At the time, I’d make weekly trips up to the Boulder Farmer’s Market. There was one stand in particular that I’d make a guaranteed stop at, and that is My Mom’s Pies; they make some of the best pies I’ve tasted my entire life. One day, it hit me as I was enjoying WeldWerks’ Brambleberry Sour: why not enjoy a nice pie for dessert alongside a delicious beer? So, the experiments began. Here are a few pairings that stood out to me:
Ultimate 6er | GABF Gold Medal Winners From Texas
January 16, 2019 | Pam CatoeEach year thousands of beer drinkers invade Denver for the Great American Beer Festival, a three day event dedicated to American craft breweries. Last year Texas walked away with 18 medals, six of which were GOLD. I caught up with each of the winners to ask how it felt to bring home the Gold in 2018.
Ultimate 6er | Home in Minnesota for the Holidays
January 9, 2019 | Hannah CarlsonWhen most people hear the word Minnesota, I can imagine that a few stereotypes are top of mind. Some people might imagine a frigid Antarctic-like landscape. Others may have a vision of, Scandinavian men and women, blonde and blue-eyed, dressed in floor-length jackets and Vikings gear screaming skol. Thanks to the Coen brothers and their brilliant Fargo, some might immediately hear Francis McDormand’s spot-on accent in their ears and get a vision of an unfortunate woodchipper in their minds. But when I think of Minnesota, I think of my home and my wholesome, Midwestern parents and my not-so-little bearded brother – three people who enjoy nothing more than enjoying a craft, Minnesotan brew around our fireplace. Ultimate 6er | Snowed-In in Michigan
December 26, 2018 | Aimee JacksonGrowing up in Michigan, I have always found myself amazed at the power of snow. An overnight snowfall has the strength to shut down roads, schools, businesses, and any plans that I have for the day. As an employee of the public school system, I am one of those blessed adults who is still able to enjoy the thrill of having the phone ring at 5:30 a.m. to tell me that it is a snow day. My favorite winter days are those where the snow falls so quickly and in such great amounts that we have no choice but to stay home cozied up under blankets by our fireplace. With West Michigan’s “lake-effect snow,” it is not uncommon to have blizzards that last for several days in a row, making even a simple run to the grocery store a hazardous undertaking. Therefore, from November through March, I have learned to always be prepared by stocking our home with the essentials: a space heater, frozen pizzas, and of course, a few beers to keep us warm and cozy throughout these snowy days.

Ultimate 6er | 6 Beers to Leave Out for Santa Claus
December 19, 2018 | Taylor LaabsThanks to the amazing array of barrel-aged brews and hearty ales available in December, many of us are growing bellies that even the man at the North Pole would be proud of. While many of us don our own red hats and honor the big man with our own gift-giving exploits, it feels like Santa might be extra stressed this year for a myriad of people-produced reasons. I’m sure Santa still appreciates a good batch of cookies and a tall glass of milk, but this year, I think Mr. Claus might appreciate something with more of a bite to quell his nerves during the big night. Here’s a look at six beers that are sure to put you on the nice list with Santa Claus this year.
Ultimate 6er | Bah, Humbuzz
December 12, 2018 | Seth GarlandCheer and happiness and all that festive crap is important, I suppose. But once in a while, the get-off-my-lawn crowd needs a shoutout. If you love the holidays and feel all warm and tingly at the sight of fresh December snow, this ain’t the article for you, Cindy Lou Who. This one’s for the grinches, the scrooges, the grown Charlie Browns; the curmudgeonly and cantankerous cranks of the world.
My promise to you right off the bat, is that there will be no cute rhymes here. If there’s anything I hate more than holiday music, it’s the nauseating rhymes companies try to incorporate into everything. Between the stress of shopping, the weather, traffic and that unbearable Mariah Carey song, we need an Ultimate 6er – and not just any 6er – to get us through to New Year’s Day. There are 12 shopping days left until Christmas, and today is 12/12. So here’s a 6er of beers that are all at least 12% ABV to pair with the season’s most pervasive annoyances.

Ultimate 6er | Brewers of Sierra Nevada’s Camp Fire Relief IPA
November 28, 2018 | Samantha StoryThe devastation of the Camp Fire in Butte County, California has reached unmeasurable levels. The fire is now the deadliest and most destructive in California’s history. The need for support for those who have been left with nothing is essential. In dire times, though, the generosity of the craft beer community is a level of support to be reckoned with and this situation is no different. Read More

Ultimate 6er | Fall TV Beer Pairings
November 7, 2018 | Ana PlefkaEach fall, networks from NBC to Netflix release what seems like an unwatchable amount of television. The line-up this season is no different, leaving viewers with lots of choices – both for shows to watch and beers to drink while watching them. For those struggling to choose from the flood of good TV, the below is a manageable list of fall’s top TV to binge-watch and beers to have in hand while doing so.
Enter the Darkness | Six Dark Beers Perfect for November
November 5, 2018 | Taylor LaabsThe twilight of fall is the best time of the year for beer people. Yes, I love my sweet fruited ales and lightly sour goses, but there’s something hearty about a viscous, dark brown porter or stout that warms your heart…and your stomach on a cold day. Now that November has officially arrived and the sight of Halloween and pumpkin ales are behind us, I wanted to highlight six crucial beers that effortlessly bridge the gap between the sweet malts of September and the boozy heat of December. I below that the below six beers fit that mold and can be reasonably located throughout the country – some more than others.
Ultimate 6er | Halloween Brews

October 24, 2018 | Michelle ThomasWith autumn beginning, the air cooling, and the leaves starting to turn, it’s time to talk camping. Isn’t fall the absolute best time for camping? Ultimate 6er | Six New Standout Beers from Pittsburgh’s Craft Beer Scene
October 17, 2018 | Gregory AceroI am always excited to show you what I have drank from the Pittsburgh area – I say Pittsburgh area because there are some days that I do not acquire craft beer right in the city. There are few breweries that were in my previous article and a few new mentions, but these beers here span the last few months of my beer drinking conquest – so let’s quit this chit-chat and get right into it!
