PorchDrinking Playlist | Windows Down, Volume Up
May 23, 2017 | Mathew PowersThe transcendental experience provided by the combination of a sweet summer, sun-kissed breeze and the right song is surreal. It calms. It centers. It also energizes and inspires. In a month dominated by big beer buyouts, political turmoil and the sad, unexpected death of Chris Cornell; it’s easy to get lost in all of life’s difficulties. Well, forget all that for a bit. Get in the car, find an open road, don some shades, feel the breeze and listen to some road tunes picked by a few PorchDrinking.com writers and editors.
Beerstagram | May 11 – May 18
May 19, 2017 | Holly GerardAnd just like that it’s Friday again. Where is this year running off to?! Hello Beerstagram friends, how was your week? Welcome to Friday! We’re hoping summer will come to us soon in Colorado, and are still cracking open bottles of winter styles while we wait out yet another spring snowstorm. We are definitely looking forward to lightening things up a bit, at least in beer style terms, and certainly looking forward to some authentic porch drinking! Hopefully the weather has been nicer in your part of the world. We have a nice looking lineup of beers (and photos of beers) this week it seems. Cheers to that. See you back here again next week!
Ultimate 6er | “Better Call Saul”
May 17, 2017 | Drew Troller“Better Call Saul” is not just the most successful TV spin-off of all time (apologies to Frasier Crane), but the best drama currently on television.
Fans of AMC’s “Breaking Bad” came to love Saul Goodman, the smug, sleazy, wise-cracking *criminal* lawyer. Saul got Walter White and Jesse Pinkman out of a few legal jams, and his way of bluntly telling the truth delivered some of the series’ best one-liners.
PorchDrinking Playlist | An Ode to Summer Movie Season
May 16, 2017 | Karl KalinkewiczFeatured image courtesy of Warner Bros. Pictures
It’s funny how Hollywood has decided that the best time to release their biggest, CGI-fueled blockbusters is during the season when the weather is finally nice enough that you actually want to go outside. I blame Los Angeles’ eternal summer for Hollywood’s ignorance of seasons. But, here we are in early May, and as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 gets our Baby Groots dancing, let’s take a moment to pay tribute to one of the great American pastimes: the hit soundtrack song. Chicago White Sox Partner with Revolution Brewing and a Tour of the Craft Kave
May 5, 2017 | Mathew PowersIt was merely spring training when we first reported on the White Sox Craft Kave, and now a month into the season the south siders are looking up with a tie for first in the AL Central. Recently, the White Sox organization invited PorchDrinking to visit the Craft Kave for an inside look into MLB’s finest collection of craft offerings in a single stadium.
Although The Kave is not all about craft — macro’s and macro-owned quasi crafts certainly exist, the infusion of Craft Beer into the White Sox home is not only substantial, it’s celebrated. In fact, The Chicago White Sox recently announced a new marketing agreement with Revolution Brewing: Rev will be featured as the “Beer of the Homestand” during the Detroit and Boston series on May 26 through May 31.
Beerstagram | April 27 – May 4
May 5, 2017 | Holly GerardHappy May Beerstagram fans! It seems like it was a big news week in the beer world. Also, did you do any Star Wars themed activities for May the 4th? We sure hope you’re looking forward to the weekend. Be sure to keep tagging us in your photos @porchdrinkingco and we will see you back here again next week. Cheers!
PorchDrinking Playlist | Having Kids
May 2, 2017 | Dan BortzAre you thinking about having kids? Parenting is one of the most beautiful, rewarding, alcoholism-inducing jobs you can have, but they don’t even pay you for it. NOTHING. Well…there is that tax break, but it doesn’t quite cover the costs. If raising children was a business, your ledger would always be in the red.
Luckily, there are plenty of non-monetary upsides to having kids. They are snuggly, weird creatures whose love and adoration far outweighs the havoc they create. Cuddling makes you forget the back-talk. Their strange pronunciation of words allows you to overlook the minor property damage. Kisses make the lack of sleep seem less terrible. There is, however, one thing that I’m unable to overlook: children’s entertainment. Read More
Beerstagram | April 20 – April 27
April 28, 2017 | Holly GerardHello Beerstagram followers! How has your week been? Did you celebrate National Pretzel Day on Wednesday? Mmm pretzels & beer. As we wrap up April this weekend, doesn’t it feel like it needs to be summer already? With an impending snowstorm looming this weekend here in Denver, the beach is definitely calling. Cheers to warmer weather. See you back here again next week!
Craft Beer’s Identity Crisis
April 27, 2017 | John BaumPeanut butter, chai tea, lemongrass, oranges, roadkill, lemons, gunsmoke, dill: these are a few of the featured ingredients in craft beers on display at my local bottle shop. The variety does not stop there. How about a triple-pale ale, dry-hopped, cosmic-toasted, sour-peat-pilsner-stout loaded with enough alcohol to sterilize a barbershop comb? Is there a “normal” in beer anymore? And when did the word “infused” become the craft beer buzzword? Everything is infused.

Ultimate 6er | Feeling Nostalgic About Pop-Punk Music
April 26, 2017 | Lora KormosI recently attended 2 sold out nights of New Found Glory’s 20 years of pop-punk anniversary tour in Philadelphia. I was feeling a little nostalgic to think this band has been around for 20 years now. They had performed during the first concert I ever went to. Completely unsure of what to expect at my first concert, I stood in a mosh pit with platform sandals on. Years later, I learned not to wear that same footwear attire to a concert ever again. PorchDrinking Playlist | Spring Storms
April 25, 2017 | Mathew PowersPhoto Credit: Mathew Powers: Campo, Colorado tornado (2010).
No place on Earth enjoys conditions more conducive for tornadoes than the U.S. It’s not even close. And, late April into June marks the peak of tornado season. Music, like severe weather, masterfully pieces otherwise chaotic components into an orderly, harmonious sensory delight. Both can evoke feelings of tranquility or make one’s heart beat rapidly.
Beerstagram | April 13 – April 20

April 21, 2017 | Jasmin HudacsekThis is a Sponsored Post for Avanti F&B
One Hawaiian appetizer has recently created a food trend foothold on the U.S. Mainland, and one Portland restaurant is bringing its own version of this seafood cuisine to Avanti Food & Beverage this summer.
Vinyl & Beers | Milli Vanilla-i and Other Tales
April 20, 2017 | Karl KalinkewiczAs with all great vices, we tell ourselves that as long as we are contributing something positive to the world, then we can indulge our heart’s desires. At least that is what I have convinced myself with Vinyl and Beers, that I can drink as much beer and buy as many records as I deem necessary for the sake of beauty. Being fully committed to my art, I pair a record from my collection with every beer I drink at home, and these are their stories. DUN DUN.
PorchDrinking Playlist | Heavy Hitters
April 20, 2017 | Kristina KurdylaWelcome to baseball season! It’s no secret some songs get the crowd pumped. For this playlist, I had to listen to a few hours worth of “walk-out music” (tough, I know). What transpired is a list of songs that made me want to move and jam out. It also caused me to conjured up fond memories of baseball games throughout the years.
