Pop Culture Week in Review: May 16-22

May 22, 2015 |

After doing a 500-word limit the last few weeks, it’s time to really let the Pop Culture Week in Review breathe. Instead, this week’s entry will read sort of like a pop culture journal entry. After all, these recaps aren’t here to give you polished, full-on reporter details of what happened in the week. I’m here to synthesize the week in pop culture for you, outputting one dork’s impressions. With that in mind: Below is a chronologically accurate re-telling of the pop culture I consumed and observed this week, copied out of my notebook. Only minor style changes have been made. Enjoy! Roundtable Discussion | Beer Festivals

May 20, 2015 |

As summer draws near that usually signals the beginning of festival season for the beer industry. Some beer fests are amazing, others can be a bit of a reach, and some are just unnecessary. Pop Culture Week in Review (in 500 Words) | 5/10 – 5/16

May 15, 2015 |

Remember last week when I did the pop culture week in review in EXACTLY 500 words? Well, I’m going to do the same thing this week. 500 words – no more, no less – to recap the week in entertainment news. Hey, only 57 more of these posts until I pass the word count of “Of Mice and Men.” Only 374 more until I pass “The Fellowship of the Ring.” And only 842 more until I eclipse the latest George RR Martin book.

Yes, I counted. Anyway… Here we go! Read More

Welcome to the InterNEAT! Volume 88

It’s all happening, people! The weather is improving. Saturday was one of the biggest days in sports history. Let’s take a look at it all with this week’s InterNEAT!

‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ | Avenger Beer Pairings

May 1, 2015 |

“Avengers: Age of Ultron” is finally here! It’s no secret that, like Cap 2, “Winter Solider,” this storyline will shift the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it. Alliances will fall. Will we lose a hero? How much chaos will be left in the end?

The only thing that seems certain is that Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will need a beer (or seven) after the dust settles. The question is, which beer do these characters turn to? We kept it American (depending on which cities Ultron destroys, imports might be tough in the MCU anyway, right?). We’re also basing the picks on cinematic storylines, and not purely on comic book history (since that’s about to reset itself again as The Verge reports).  Read More

22 Pieces of Advice for the 22-year-old Version of Me

April 30, 2015 | 1

This week marks the 3-year anniversary of my move to Los Angeles. I was 22, unemployed, broke, and sort of aimless when I moved here. Now I’m 25 and employed, but barely any less broke or aimless.

If I could go back in time, I’d have some stuff to say to 22-year old Drew. Here’s a bit of it. Read More

Awesomesauce | App Happy

April 23, 2015 |

How do you manage the apps on your smartphone?

When I first approached this question, it seemed benign. Upon further conversation with others, I’ve learned that the question is anything but innocuous; in fact, it’s downright divisive. I’m talking “Hello, I’m a Mac. And I’m a PC” levels of loyalty here. While I’ve come to realize that there is no middle ground between the two camps (and that I’m, of course, some weird hybrid of the two; folders AND mutiple home screens for the win!) in my quest to discover which method is best, I’ve come across two of my new favorite time-wasters…I mean…apps.
