The Oh Hello’s

July 1, 2013 |

I don’t usually deal in sweeping proclamations, ok maybe I do, but if there is one band to see in person this summer, it’s the Oh Hello’s. The brother and sister duo of Tyler and Maggie Heath out of San Marcos, Texas form the core of an 11 person ensemble, that produces a robust, soulful, indie folk sound, reminiscent of Of Monsters and Men, The Head and the Heart and the Lumineers.

Faking Adulthood | Basic Sewing

June 24, 2013 |

It’s really the little things in life that make a difference in your day-to-day, right? Small things that you don’t let become big things, or tiny gestures than make you smile. Or, feeling accomplished when you complete a simple adult-type task like some basic sewing. In a world where most jobs don’t require that we don’t use our hands too much, being able to replace a button or hem some pants makes me feel strangely self-sufficient (even if I’m not actually).

Awesomesauce- TodayIFoundOut.com

June 20, 2013 |

I have a reputation among my friends for being sort of a know-it-all.  It’s mostly random, useless knowledge which makes me a useful trivia partner, but it mostly just takes up a lot of extra brain cells that I could be using for, I don’t know, nuclear physics or something more helpful to the world at large (unless you count winning some free beer as being helpful to the world at large.) PorchDrinking Playlist Songs for Every Month

June 18, 2013 |

Admittedly this playlist has absolutely nothing to do with Father’s Day or summer or anything for that matter.  But instead of trying to make some far fetched correlation to how the summer months move too quickly and how the seasons change blah blah blah, just enjoy a playlist with songs for every month.  And yes, March’s song is by the Ides of March… deal with it.

Remembering Coach Coles

June 17, 2013 |

There are hundreds of NCAA basketball coaches out there, but none were like former Miami University basketball coach Charlie Coles. In an era where so many coaches focus on what’s politically correct to say, Coles told you exactly what he was thinking.

What do this week’s Beerstagrams have in common? No not just beer instagrams

They’re all outside. And thank goodness. It’s that time of year- when good beer can come with you anywhere- A brewery patio, front lawn, river, or of course the occasional porch. This week is heavy on the Colorado beers with appearances by Great Divide’s Hoss Rye Lager and New Belgium’s Ranger IPA. But we did discover that the perfect river brew was Schlafly’s Pale Ale, even when the make-shift cooler didn’t keep it at an ideal temperature. Here’s to another weekend in the great outdoors!

Pop Culture Review 6/8 – 6/14

June 14, 2013 |

Content Warning: If you fancy yourself only the most modest connoisseur of media and pop culture, the following may be an inappropriate consumption for you. This week showcased some of the most in-depth news of the year, distinguished not only by its content, but the elaborate multiplicity consternating the ramifications necessary to comprehend. If you choose to read, the choice may irrevocably extinguish the inexhaustible, visa vi, your pop culture conscious. Ergo, the paradox of choice: causality. Concordantly. A priori? I don’t have a job.

PD Playlist: What You Should Be Listening To – Summer 2013

June 11, 2013 | 1

I tend to approach music as I do with beer in that I love dissecting, collecting and consuming it by the loads. Luckily when I awake hazily from that dual mass consumption my musical journey affords me the perfect chill tunes to help nurse my hangover. But my approach to music is also similar to that with beer in that I don’t consider myself a snob but rather a fan who loves sharing the joys of discovering great new finds.  So please don’t misconstrue this the title of this playlist as snobbery.  However here’s what you should be listening to during the summer of 2013.

Faking Adulthood | Cocktail Recipes

June 10, 2013 | 3

I don’t know what’s so impressive about being able to mix up anything more than a Cape Codder (cranberry juice + vodka), but there’s something about it that says — in a very cool, collected and understated way — that you’ve got it together. For non-beer drinkers, being able to mix up a legitimate cocktail, is akin to bringing the perfect six pack. Here are a few simple cocktail recipes to get you started.
