Beerstagrams 3/22- 3/29
March 29, 2013 | Lizzie BourqueThis week’s Beerstagrams are sponsored by Lizzie’s Birthday Road Trip. A quick lunch stop on 4th Street in Louisville and a weekend in Nashville were heaven on earth for this girl and her new DSLR camera. That’s right: Beerstagrams are gettin’ fancy. Although I’m used to the “Craft Beer is King in the Midwest” bubble, thanks to Yazoo Brewing I was able to finally track down something decent to drink. Meanwhile on the west coast, Geoff Reinhardt hit up Lagunitas Brewing Co. in California for some serious samplers. And it’s no surprise that Tristan and friends were dressed to impress in 80s gear. Because what goes better with craft beer than a sweatband? Here’s to keeping your brackets alive for another week!
Roundtable Discussion: Thrift Shop
March 28, 2013 | Tristan ChanAwesomesauce- TeeFury
March 28, 2013 | Laura MegoWhile t-shirt websites like Threadless or Society6 are awesome for their incredible designs, fantastic selection, and amazing tees (seriously, they’re really soft) I find them lacking in a few key areas.
- Their tee selections just aren’t nerdy enough.
- I have to wait for a good sale to buy a tee- I can’t bring myself to spend almost 50 bucks on a hoodie or twenty bucks for a tee (OK, unless it’s an Homage tee…Homage tees are my Kryptonite.)

We Are All Florida Gulf Coast University
March 25, 2013 | Adam ReevesAfter the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament, there is only one team to write about: the Florida Gulf Coast University Eagles. Few had ever heard of this team before March Madness began – and if you did, it was probably because of the coach’s wife. With wins over Georgetown and San Diego State University, all that has now changed. Read More
March Madness and FIFA Upset Report
March 25, 2013 | Katharine ClarkMarch Madness 2013 Update
Every year, the first and second rounds of March Madness bring some surprises and 2013 has started out no different. If you’re like me, your bracket looked a little busted Thursday and Friday. Social media erupted in waves of “Go (insert underdog team mascot here)”, as a few lower ranked teams made some unexpected wins. Go Bears! Woot!
Beerstagrams 3/15- 3/22
March 22, 2013 | Lizzie BourqueIt is here again: March Madness. For many reasons this description is accurate. All of a sudden a basketball team you’ve never followed or cared about can cause you to rip out your hair and curse loudly in your office while your co-workers roll their eyes at you. A spark of competition in even the most unlikely contestants arises when they realize they have just as good of a chance of winning the office pool by picking their favorite mascots. But it is also a time, like so many other festive occasions, where people come together to drink beer. And hopefully good beer at that! This week features some stunner close-ups from Lara and David Brainer-Banker. Play close attention though- all is not as it first appears 🙂 Instagrammer craftbeerindychick also shows us an example of the proper way to watch the NCAA tournament (that is, 3 screens and an IPA in hand). So may the best- or in some cases, just luckiest- team win, and hope you have a few cold ones ready for when that #12 overthrows the #5 that you picked. It will ease the pain, and you will probably keep more of your hair.
Pop Culture Week in Review 3/15-3/22 Jimmy Fallon to Tonight Show?
March 22, 2013 | AdminEnlightened, we hardly knew ye…
…and I’m pretty ok with that. HBO has declined to renew the Laura Dern series for a third season. I haven’t watched the second season yet but I really found the first season (which I watched in full) completely insufferable. I really wanted to like it- Mike White! Luke Wilson! The occasional Jason Mantzoukas! But her stupid hippy dippy voice overs drove me up the wall, across the ceiling and down the other wall to crash land on the floor in a fit of rage. But anyway its cancelled so it doesn’t matter.
Roundtable Discussion: I love the 80’s
March 21, 2013 | Tristan ChanIn honor of this Saturday’s upcoming New Kids on the Block 80’s Party at the Lobby (tickets are still available but going fast), we posed an I love the 80’s version of this week’s roundtable discussion. Best Recruiting Class in History
March 21, 2013 | Tristan ChanOn Tuesday night, the University of Kentucky Men’s Basketball team wrapped their worst season in the modern era by falling to Robert Morris in the first round of the NIT. On Wednesday, Kentucky set themselves up for statistically the best recruiting class in collegiate history and what could become the deepest team in collegiate history.
NCAA Mascot Madness – Genius Bracketology
March 20, 2013 | Drew Troller 4This year, I’m trusting in the unpredictable. I’m doing something bold. I’m trusting my brackets not to expert advice or probability or whether I believe a high-scoring offense or a solid defensive core will win basketball games.
I’m making a bracket based on which mascot would win in a fight. For every game. It’s perhaps the first time someone has gone on the internet and actually advocated mascot-based bracketology. It’s NCAA Mascot Madness. It’s genius.
For safety – and science – I made a bracket that was based on my own (mostly safe) picks. And I’m stacking it up against a bracket which – by my own arbitrary determination – asks which team’s mascot could kick the other’s ass. The results are fascinating. Read More

Tournament Faux Paux
It is always interesting to see a number one seed described by their coach as the worst team he has ever coached, especially when that team was one game away from a national championship last year. Granted, this commentary came when the Rock Chalk nation lost to the Horned Frogs of TCU in Fort Worth, TX earlier this year. But even still, when crafting your bracket it is worthwhile to take note of certain anecdotes from well regarded coaches in addition to past performances.
NCAA Tournament East Region
March 20, 2013 | Jason BehlerNCAA Tournament East Region
This year’s NCAA Tournament East Region is full of former Cinderellas that have outgrown their slippers as overlooked mid-major sleepers. Butler went to back-to-back National Championship … Read More
NCAA Tournament West Region
March 20, 2013 | Mike ZollerNCAA Tournament West Region
The West region is being called the weakest of the four this tournament and rightfully so. There was a lot of discussion on which team would get the final number one seed and Gonzaga beat out Ohio State and Miami for the last number one spot.
NCAA Tournament Midwest Region
March 20, 2013 | Adam ReevesThe NCAA Tournament Midwest Region starts off Thursday with a sight sure to make every Kentucky fan sick: The University of Louisville Cardinals will open play as the tournament’s overall number one team on Kentucky’s home floor. This feeling is only worsened by Kentucky’s loss to Robert Morris in the first round of the NIT (short for “Not In Tournament”). Just how many UK fans show up to root against the Cardinals isn’t the only storyline in a region chocked full of contenders. Here’s a breakdown of the Midwest Region, just in time to fill out your bracket (and promptly throw it away when Duke loses to a 15-seed. Again).
Pop Culture Week in Review
March 19, 2013 | Nik Heimach 2I’ll be honest with you, this wasn’t the most eventful seven days in cultural history. It started as if it took a spring break vacation with the rest of the college folk, taking with it everything fun and entertaining. Meanwhile, we were left up North, clinging to our blankets and a totally normal, healthy level of rampant jealousy for anyone south of the Mason-Dixon line. Luckily, it didn’t stay that way for long.

Faking Adulthood | Interest Rates
March 18, 2013 | Kate StarkAlong with being “an adult” comes an expectation that you suddenly, magically know how to do things. That you understand how your finances work—or rather, should work. If you took an economics class somewhere along your path to wherever you are today or excelled in math, congrats. If you didn’t, here’s a basic breakdown of one of the most common concepts that can bite you in the ass: interest rates.

The NHL Streak We Almost Missed
March 18, 2013 | Mike ZollerThe Streak
It’s hard to believe that the NHL season is already more than half over. Well maybe it’s not that hard to believe since the 2013 season is only 48 games. What might be harder to believe is that the Chicago Blackhawks went the entire first half of the season without a regulation loss.
