WestFax Brewing Announces Second Location in WeldWerks’ Former Colorado Springs Location

Even in spite of a world-altering pandemic and an impending recession, the craft beer scene in Colorado Springs has continued to experience rapid growth over the last four years. So much so, that according to Colorado Beer Geek, Stephen Adams, Colorado Springs has now eclipsed Boulder and Fort Collins in terms of the total number of breweries with 34 in operation. The area’s vibrant beer scene has already drawn big-name attention once, but now, a different familiar name from the Front Range is primed to join the mix.

As expected, after a busy holiday weekend, the new releases are slightly more limited this week. What you can look forward to spotting down below are a few specialty releases that only come out this time of the year. From a candy cane stout from River North to a variety of Grow Old With You variants from Verboten, the holidays are in full swing in the Colorado craft beer community.
Colorado Springs Beer Community Fundraises for Club-Q Shooting Survivors

Last week a shooter opened fire at Club Q, an LGBTQ bar in Colorado Springs killing five people. Richard Fierro, an Army combat veteran and co-owner of Atrevida Beer Co., was one of the two men who subdued the shooter, preventing further casualties.

The holiday season is officially upon us, and that means the thrill of shopping for others in crowded spaces has begun. Instead of fighting the ravenous hordes at a tortuous big box store, why not enjoy some tasty beer? Black Friday marks a big day in the craft beer community as many breweries release special and limited edition beers, many of them made big and boozy for a warming liquid cold weather blanket. We have rounded up a list of 2022 Colorado Black Friday craft beer releases for your perusal and enjoyment. Convince the family to stop by one of these establishments while you’re out and about fighting off the crowds and that turkey hangover. Beer also makes for a great present for that special friend or family member!
Our Mutual Friend | Boundary Beyond Imperial Coffee Stout

As the weather gets colder and the days get shorter, a warming brew is often needed to stave off the crushing chill of both arctic gales and seasonal affective disorder. Why not combine two types of brew in a single, satisfying beverage to perk up the soul and power through the winter months? Beer and coffee are obvious companions for this invigorating task, and Our Mutual Friend Brewing (OMF) and Color Drop Coffee are the obvious collaborators to make a coffee beer in the Denver scene. Combining their beer and coffee brewing knowledge, OMF has released Boundary Beyond, a 13.5% Imperial Coffee Stout using Color Drop’s coffee.

Opening just a year after River North Brewery, Our Mutual Friend Brewing, and Black Shirt Brewery, Epic Brewing joined a groundswell of craft beer producers to transform the North side of Denver into one of the most heavily saturated craft brewery neighborhoods in the country.

Denver Rare Beer Tasting Impresses After Three Year Absence

The Denver Rare Beer Tasting returned to Denver’s McNichols Civic Center this past week after a three year absence, and a palpable excitement filled the air as beer lovers tasted some of the rarest beers in the country. Denver Rare Beer Tasting is an invitational beer festival benefitting Pints for Prostates, an organization that raises awareness about prostate cancer and promotes early detection. While benefiting a good cause, attendees are able to taste amazing beers they’ll likely never taste again, as well as talk with esteemed brewers and brewery founders like Sam Calagione, Adam Avery, and Shyla Sheppard.
Denver’s Sunroom Brewing Celebrates Grand Opening

Colorado’s Best Fresh Hop Beers Presented by On Tap Credit Union

For the fourth installment of PorchDrinking’s Blind Tasting Series presented by On Tap Credit Union, breweries from around Colorado submitted their fresh hop beers. To start with, the Brewer’s Association defines Fresh Hop beers as, “Ales or lagers are brewed with freshly harvested hops, typically no more than 72 hours prior to being added. Such hops might be undried fresh or frozen cones or ground material, or freshly kilned dried cones or pellets.” For this tasting, we received Fresh Hop beers from 16 different Colorado breweries.
The ROI of the Great American Beer Festival

The 40th anniversary of the Great American Beer Festival marks the first time the event has been held in person and open to the public since 2019. To say that brewers and craft beer fans are excited is an extreme understatement. While participation and attendance were limited this year due to renovations to the Colorado Convention Center, the exhibitor floor was still packed with over 200 suppliers and drew over 10,000 fans to the event.
