Avery Brewing Returns to Connecticut Shelves

April 23, 2017 |

Boulder’s Avery Brewing Co. announced earlier this month that they would be returning distribution to Connecticut, after leaving the state in 2011 because of financial reasons and growing pains.

Connecticut was one of eight states Avery exited from six years ago, as they had lost “the ability to support all markets with a steady supply of fresh beer,” a press release said at the time. Now, due to a new brewery that opened in 2015 with the capabilities to produce 150,000 barrels, Avery says that can start to handle the larger demand and return to some of places they had to leave.

I literally spent the afternoon driving around town and following Twitter to find a Lone Pint Yellow Rose on the shelf for this piece because I think it is one of the most perfect beers brewed in Texas. Named after a popular Texas heroine, Yellow Rose is always in short supply due to the overwhelming popularity of this Single Malt and Single Hop (SMaSH) IPA beauty.

Fremont Brewing | Summer Ale

April 19, 2017 |

Though the celebration of spring isn’t exclusive to one certain place or city, the city of Seattle, I can assure you, is especially elated. The welcoming of spring is more than a changing of the seasons — it’s a changing of lifestyle. It means leaving umbrellas at home, closeting the rain boots, planning outdoor happy hours, and spending countless hours on WTA in search of the perfect hike. And as all of this is underway, there’s nothing that I want more in-hand than the Summer Ale from Fremont Brewing. Read More

What to Drink at a Cincinnati Reds Game

April 18, 2017 | 2

Cincinnati is known for its rich history with baseball and beer. In fact, Cincinnati was the first city to have a professional baseball team in 1869. And with a large German population, the city also had over 30 breweries during those early baseball years. This prompted the then Red Stockings to serve beer at baseball games, which was quite controversial at the time. So it’s easy to see that beer and Red’s baseball have been a critical part of Cincinnati’s history from the very beginning.

It is no different today; the Queen City is still in love with its baseball team and the city’s love for beer is evident by the nearly 40 breweries that now call Cincinnati home. That love for craft beer and baseball is displayed at Great American Ball Park (GABP) where there is an impressive beer list. For me, I immediately look toward the local craft beer on the list and two stand out: Rhinegeist‘s Hustle and MadTree Brewing’s Rounding Third. Not only are these tasty brews but they are also baseball themed.

Second Self Beer Company | Manic Pixie Dream Beer #1

ABV: 13.9% | IBU: 64

Atlanta’s Second Self Beer Company sent me two cans of Manic Pixie Dream Beer #1. At first, I didn’t want to try them. Same beer, slightly different artwork on each can, and enough of a singular nature to this that I felt like I should keep it in mint condition. After all, it could be worth something in the future. But then again, they aren’t Beanie Babies. They’re cans of beer. So in I went.

Odyssey Beerwerks | Passion Fruit 5535 IPA

April 14, 2017 |

Most breweries I’ve visited keep some sort of “Idea List” hanging around for different beer ideas and flavor combinations. Sometimes these lists are left exclusively to the employees of the brewery and sometimes they welcome ideas from their customers. In this particular instance, Chris Hill, the founder of Odyssey Beerwerks spent some vacation time in the British Virgin Islands drinking almost exclusively passion fruit – which leads us to our profile of a particular selection on their idea list.
